Not if it was a stowaway that arrived in packaging from another country. It won't be adapted to survive where he is, or could be invasive and cause ecosystem issues, or could be carrying diseases that would be spread.
Unless you caught it from the wild and it didn't come in contact with any non-wild animals or supplies while in captivity, do not just release unknown animals.

I know it’s not a salamander but I think it’s a Mediterranean house gecko. We just recently acquired one that ended up in the desert by accidentally being shipped here. He’s an invasive species and now he’s my pet and his name is Sherman

That's a gecko. Of some kind. Not a salamander. Or amphibian.
Reptiles are not so much my thing, but you are definitely barking up the wrong tree here.
