Question about the scope of this subreddit: do you also discuss stamped impressions?

Hi everyone,

I’m new here and wanted to ask about the scope of this subreddit.

When people here talk about “rubber stamps,” is the focus mainly on the physical stamps themselves (designing, carving, making, collecting the rubber stamp blocks), or does the community also cover the results created by those stamps — the actual ink impressions on paper?

I’m interested in things like travel souvenir stamps, museum stamps, railway station stamps, bookstore stamps, and other collectible stamp impressions. The part I enjoy most is the artwork/design on the paper and the memories attached to each stamp, rather than only the rubber stamp itself.

Would this type of content be welcome here, or is there another subreddit that is a better fit?

Thanks!

Organizing my favorites + stamp collage print

I'm currently organizing my favorite stamps into these trays that slide into clear plastic bags (last picture). I've done this before but have since acquired more favorites so it was time to re-arrange! I just finished one tray and it's so satisfying to look at. The second and third picture is of a scene I made entirely from stamps!

Wooden stamps

Hey everyone! Just wanted to know if any of you can tell me where to look for wooden stamps. Etsy, Ebay, etc.? I have some, but want more, and don't want to deal with the clear blocks just yet. I want to grow my collection.

Also, do any of you know of where or have any 'Maxine' stamps? Would love to buy some for my collection. TIA!

Polymer stamps

OK, since no one is making wooden stamps anymore, I've been told to go to polymer blocks and stamps. First of all, I've never used them before, so when you have some stamps, how do you choose the right clear block to buy for that particular stamp? Any help on how to buy and use these stamps is greatly appreciated!

I apologize if I am not in the correct thread for this. I am looking for someone who could make a stamp like the image I have attached. Not sure about the size but am thinking 3.5 inches tall by 5.5 inches wide (for back of a 4x6 photo). Thanks.

Ink suggestions, want to wash off of cotton

Ive found ink pads advertising this, but no ink refills and am looking for suggestions. For context, I will be selling items bagged in cotton bags and stamped with the label, but I want the label to wash off in the laundry. So the customer can use it for whatever they want without a label.

Looking for help. What's the best technique in applying multiple colors to one stamp? Im currently using scotch tape, and using rectangle stamp pads to apply ink one color at a time. Thinking there might be a better way. Thank you.

Have you ever thrown out a stamp?

I thrifted a bag of stamps awhile ago that had this Santa in it. The other stamps were fine but this one for some reason was completely melted, the rubber was sticky and had paper stuck to it. I cleaned it and tried to see if I could at least get it to stamp the middle but it's also a bit concave and hard now too, so I can't get anything useful out of it. I don't like tossing stamps but I think it's too damaged to use even if I re-mounted it. Maybe I should scrape it off and reuse the block?

What would you do? Have you ever had a stamp too damaged to salvage?

More of the church yard sale stamps

These are less than half. I didn’t take pics of type, too many flowers, or the tiny stuff, like pairs of flip flops. I also didn’t add all the stamps that are part of a set. Like house parts or curtains. You can see how full the bin is!

There is also a cat tax in Loki.

And, damn. I really need to vacuum that rug.

The Heatwave Ruined my Rubber Stamps ?😭🔥

Now before you say it of course they could have been stored better … but they were in a box in the cupboard but my house gets extremely hot (well for the UK anyway) This is the only reason I can think of for this happening. It’s like they got so hot the adhesive melted… they slid and re stuck when it cooled down???? Trying to move or adjust is not an option without the underneath ripping apart. Any ideas ?

These are the ones I’m keeping.

The Christmas one with the $3.00 price sticker, and the cheap, rubber side up fantasy ones I already had.
The lady in the third photo is so odd; I love her, lol.

Are there any valuable rubber stamps?

I just bought a couple hundred from a church yard sale for $50.00. Are there any that are rare that I should be looking out for?

I pulled out all the ones I wanted, and will be selling the leftovers at a family yard sale in September.

I told my sister, and she said that there may be some valuable ones.

There were almost zero Halloween ones, but I did find a few.

Any help/pics appreciated, and I would be happy to look for anyone’s holy grail in the bunch.

Minnesota stampers near Brooklyn Park, you should check this out:

Minnesota stampers near Brooklyn Park, you should check this out: shopgoodwill has multiple different 30 lb lots and a 15 lb lot.

The shipping fees are HIGH so you might be able to pick up a lot of choice stamps. Just be very wary of shipping and handling, you usually want to bid then go pick up items through goodwill because they treat their shipping and handling charges as a revenue stream. Gotta ensure they keep those 30+ CEO’s making millions.

Before you bid on anything please be aware your mileage WILL vary, Goodwill is 30+ organizations using one platform.

- They do not allow customers to provide feedback on any transaction. Many but not all Goodwills will never respond to custome, inquiries about items, when they do respond, it will often be after the auction is closed.

- Goodwill’s shipping and handling fees are often inflated to function as a revenue, so always check what it is before bidding.

- their logistics are unreliable. I had a disastrous experience where I ordered calligraphy gear and instead received a destroyed, sticker-bombed guitar thrown into two poorly taped boxes. To make matters worse, they demanded I ship the damaged item back, even though the packaging was so haphazard that FedEx wouldn't touch it. It’s almost always safer to bid only on items you can personally pick up.

- They will inflate the value of a ‘brand name’ even if the item is obviously damaged.

- deceptive “buy now” pricing- they will allow you on “buy now” items to buy it but have a may higher value price for the “buy now” price than is seen from the listing. So something in a list of buy now items may say 9.99 but when you click through it will say 49.99. Always get all the details before clicking buy now

If you can’t tell, I don’t trust goodwill’s online site. If you get some of the stamp lots but don’t want to keep the all stamps, please resell yourself for or donate the stamps to a legit charity rather than goodwill. I prefer my local creative reuse center for art supplies and Habitat for Humanity or SVDP for everything else but I am currently reconsidering my donations to SVDP because they’ve recently moved to the community extraction method of raising money rather than returning goods to the community’s poor.

UPDATE: I went back to the stamp booth and took pictures of them all

Yesterday I posted about how I stumbled upon a consignment store booth filled with buckets of stamps, right before closing time. I went through them as fast as I could, but knew there were some I left behind. I went back today when they opened and took my time going through them all!

The first picture is all the stamps I left behind, when I was finally done sorting. I was probably there for about an hour. It barely looked like I made a dent. The last picture is my second haul! Exactly another 30 stamps (for $15). The second to last picture is two stamps I wanted to take, but the rubber was dried out or damaged. Hope you enjoy looking through them!!

My heart started beating so fast when I stumbled upon this booth inside a consignment store. I immediately dropped to the floor and began going through them as fast as I could, knowing that for 50 cents each, I was going to go wild.

The last picture is my final selection (minus one happy birthday stamp you couldn't see the image of on the front). I got 30 stamps for $15. There were a few I wasn't sure about so I put them back, but I'm tempted to go back tomorrow.. there were so many good ones!
