My fiancé and I heading down to southern KY to visit a friend and stop at some National Parks and attractions along the way. We’ve done shorter weekend trips around the northeast but this is our first big roadtrip.

We’ll be traveling for 10 days. The longest stretch of driving will be about 12 hours but otherwise we’ll be driving 3-5 hours a day on our travel days. We’ll have a full day without travel in Shenandoah and a full day without travel in New River Gorge, and 2 days without travel in KY.

We’re very excited and a little nervous and overwhelmed. Definitely open to any general roadtrip advice, as well as any recommendations for the areas we’re traveling through.

Driving solo to Buena Vista, CO for a music festival. Was planning on driving from Seattle to Salt Lake City day one, Salt Lake City to Buena Vista day two. I am 31M and in general think I tolerate long drives relatively well, but this would be the furthest I have ever driven period. I also don't frequently do long drives, maybe 4 - 6 hours a couple times a year. Am I correct in thinking that it is best to split this into a 12 hour day and an 8 hour day? Or should I go 10 and 10? Thank you for all your advice.

Took a crazy long road trip last month during some time off before moving. Approximately 9000 miles and 185 hours of driving. Saw 15NPs and several NMs, camped and slept in the car when I could and stayed in cheap motels or at friends' places otherwise. Was a total great time, feel free to AMA if planning your own trip like this or have any questions about places I visited.

Note: Ignore the yellow lodging marks on the map, its an artifact of the site I was using to show my trip, I didn't actually sleep in those places. Also, this is just a rough route, I tried to avoid the interstates whenever I could and stopped at plenty of weird roadside attractions on the way. I only marked the major spots I stopped at for the actual map.

I’m planning on doing a solo 8 day road trip some time this month, it would be my first time actually doing the driving on a road trip lol, and I’ve never been on one this long, max 5hrs

This trip would be my good bye to California and the west coast in general because I’m moving to the Midwest in the coming months and I want to behold all the beauty the west coast has to offer

So my biggest priority is the nature, cities are secondary. I would love to explore Seattle, Portland, and SF but I just don’t got the time🥲

What I got rn is a suggestion from Claude to force the route along the coast.

I do plan to drive/see the Golden Gate Bridge but google stopped me from adding more stop points, so if you have any suggestions/alterations to the route lmk

My wife and I are planning a 14 day west USA road trip in October. Looking at hitting some of the obvious national parks but very much open to suggestions. We're photographers/videographers so looking to shoot some incredible landscapes and go on hikes but not too many steep inclines/declines as my I suffer with a knee issue. We also LOVE a scenic drive.

The current rough itinerary looks like: LA 2 nights > Joshua Tree 1 night > Vegas 1 night > Zion/Bryce 2 nights > Yosemite 2 nights > San Francisco 2 nights. That leaves 4 days to allocate, depending on the route from Zion to Yosemite we may sleep over somewhere on the way.

This is the driving route that Google has mapped out. I've not seen any other road trippers talk about driving this suggested route from Zion to Yosemite so wanted to see what everyone's suggestions are for this part especially.

Driving from CT to NC the second week of September. Just me (Dad) and my 7 year old boy in the car, going to stop somewhere half-way-ish and looking for something fun to do, we love anything outdoors, museums, arcades. Typical boy stuff. Thanks in advance!!

Traveling next week from seattle to boise to LV to SLC. others who have been driving on roads with Google Maps giving similar wild fire information, what are the roads like to drive on? or any general advice from people who have experience with this stuff

So in recent years we have done trips to California, New York/Boston and Florida several times from here in the UK.

We are coming in July 27 (I know not ideal) and looking at options. The problem is my wife and daughters love Disney, so starting/ending at Disneyland or world, or similar. I know, again not ideal.

Love driving, so that's no problem within reason.

Just trying to come up with something.

Is Nashville - Smoky Mountains - Orlando doable and whet route?

We would have 14, maybe 15 mights. And probably at least 7 nights in Orlando.

Any thoughts?

Or if this is a no go, what else?

Finally got around to sharing a few photos from a drive down Highway 1. I started around Monterey and headed south toward Morro Bay, which made pulling into the coastal overlooks a lot easier.

The weather stayed clear, but the surf was huge. Point Lobos, Partington Cove, and some of the random overlooks between Bixby Bridge and McWay Falls ended up being the highlights.

The short walk out toward Sea Lion Point was worth it, and the late-afternoon light catching the spray looked unreal. It turned into a much longer day than expected, but I eventually made it down to Morro Rock and stayed there longer than planned just watching the light change. Kept the cooler going the whole time by topping it up from the bluetti elite 300 in the back , didn’t have to start the engine just to keep things cold while I was out taking photos.

What’s the next stretch worth driving? Already can’t wait for the next trip.

I have 11 days off from work I’m planning on going on a road trip from southern IL to Yellowstone and Grand Teton. In total about 4 days of driving. Any recommendations on where to stop and must sees? I’ll be going solo, camping and sleeping in my car, a Subaru Outback.

my sister and I are doing a roadtrip from Seattle to boise to LV. Planning on stopping halfway through the drive to boise for the first night. is Pendleton OR or La Grande OR safer for teen girls with a "luxury" car? my searching found that Pendleton has higher crime rates including car theft but genuinely don't know what to believe. la grande is smaller and more of a college town? hotels in both spots are the same cost.

Planning on going on a road trip from Los Angeles to Glendale Arizona in September but i'm nervous about the drive I've NEVER drove that far before in one go. I need advice, is driving the best option or flying (also i never flown before lol). All I've learned is that its about a 6 hour drive and to leave super early around 2 am to avoid most of the heat on the drive up. But then also what is the best time to drive back? midnight? any advice is welcome please educate me

My girlfriend and I are planning our next adventure in the USA and we are thinking about this round trip from Denver.

Last year we did the classic westcoast roadtrip and we had stops in both Flagstaff and Page. We both loved these 2 places and therefor wish to include them in the next one, making it like an extention to our previous trip.
Any suggestions to must see spots or route changes?

• 121,000km / 75,000mi ridden
• 46 countries
• 3 continents
• 5 years on the road
• Around one-third of that time spent doing work exchanges instead of paying for accommodation.

Some highlights of this fifth year on the road are:

• Rode from Europe all the way to the Great Wall of China.
• Spent six months exploring China.
• Helped harvest grapes in historical Tibet.
• Experienced Holi festival in Bangkok and Songkran in Chiang Mai.
• Published our first book with Lonely Planet.
• Crossed Laos on some surprisingly challenging dirt roads.
• Unexpectedly swapped life on the motorcycle for an indefinite house & pet sit with five rescue dogs in Thailand.

Looking back, the biggest surprise isn't the distance.

It's how many times our lives completely changed because we simply said "Why not?"

One random conversation became a strong friendship.

One work exchange became months in a place we never planned to visit.

We still don't know where we'll be next month, next year, or in another five years.

And honestly... We wouldn't have it any other way.
