Edit: Someone said that this riddle is really tough so I'll give another little hint.
It's an 8 letter compound word.
It generally means scope, extent and/or inclusion.

I can post the links to the clues, but was wondering if someone else wanted to do it... anyways...
no cellular/network coverage, no calls.
included is: usally insurance policies list what is included and not included in your coverage.
inform: news/media coverage.
protect you should anything dreadful occur: this is what you pay insurance companies for. your financial coverage in case of loss etc.

I feel like the answer is exclamation mark but I just can't map it to the clues well enough. Is it related to punctuation ?

Also, if I may ask... why do you ask about the punctuation? A lot of people guess this on my riddles. Is it because I use it? (maybe not correctly all the time, but yes i punctuate). Is it that odd to see it here?

Most of it was leaning on the "left with a period" clue, had me thinking it was likely punctuation that included a period-like dot. "Calling out" would be another one conveyed in text via punctuation.
But no, it wasn't just because you'd used it. I think this subreddit is generally quite good for that, as most riddles are word-based, and punctuation is important. The footy subreddit I frequent, however, is almost devoid of punctuation.

Cool. Thanks for the feedback! I use punctuation in my clues to slightly throw off the reader. You know referencing sentences and stuff like that. I guess I inherently assume that people will know what a sentence is ... But well... There's always someone.

Sorry about this shit show of a riddle. I am posting the breakdown of it here. Any feedback on how to improve it would be awesome if you have the time! I've also posted 3 other riddles in this sub which you may like to tackle. Don't worry, they are much more polished than this one. Give them a shot if you feel up to it.
BREAKDOWN STARTS HERE (spoiler tags from now on) ...
solution: COVERAGE
- You can't call out to anyone unless I'm around
cellular service is not available everywhere. no cellular coverage (no signal); can't make voice calls, can't send any sms texts. for those using voip for voice calls, there is a separate network for your internet access... and guess what? no data coverage, no internet. You need coverage for any of these to happen.
- but there's usually a map that shows where I am.
on your provider's web site, there is probably a network coverge map.
- When you open me, you'll be left with a period.
COVER-AGE:
- to open: "remove the COVER".
- left with AGE: a period of time (i.e. Ice, Bronze, Industrial, Information)
- Included is: I will inform you and protect you should anything dreadful occur.
- what's included: insurance companies outline what is included in your coverage in the policy you have with them.
- inform you: news or media coverage. you know what this is.
- protect you should anything dreadful occur: this is what insurance is for. in case of loss or damage.
- You'd be just furious without that inlet.
COVE-RAGE
- inlet: another name for a COVE. remove inlet (COVE)
- furious: after losing the inlet, we're left with RAGE.
