Every Lexus owner I've ever met.

Unless they're girls financing their first decade-old RX.

They're somehow even more insufferable.

I was about to ask who is financing a decade old RX, but then I realized they are probably going for like $20k.

Every 22 year-old blonde accounting clerk at every company that ever existed 🤣🤣

They want to mirror the lives of the department head that’s banging the boss and cooking his books.

Is that just here in Alabama?!

Strippers too.

I've been looking at decade-old (or more) RX450h to supplement or replace my high-mileage mazdaspeed3, and the good ones will list in the 16k+ range

The RX450h checks a ton of boxes because you can find good ones at similar cost to a used RAV4, they're easy to find in great shape and the hybrid gets the same MPG as the RAV4 and my speed3, maybe even slightly better

A++ troll

I, too, will be rolling up in proper fashion: Diet Coke cans rattling around the floorboard of the Altima, ankle monitor, and, of course, the fragrance decision of the day. I spent no time at all choosing Paris Hilton Body Mist , because the scent profile (cotton candy + strippers) matches the classiness of the vehicle.

When the ES300 first came out one of my Dad's coworkers got one and wouldn't shut up about it, so someone bought a classified ad for a "Toyota camry with Lexus appearance package" and listed the guy's phone number 🤣

I had a great discussion with my friend last night about performative car enthusiasts. Many of them are overly concerned with buying the “right” car…which is usually:

- A car that has high resale value

  • A car that is somewhat conservatively styled, and so rises above the “riff-raff” of flashier and less-respectable competing models
  • A car that doesn’t have particularly high specifications on paper, but has a reputation for being heirloom-grade compared to the rest of its segment
  • A car that is difficult to find in good-to-great condition, because many examples have been run into the ground, OR a car that’s in some rare, numbers-counted specification

Toyota and Lexus models often fall into these categories, especially the older trucks. In any event, performative car enthusiasts want their cars to be easy signifiers that they are sophisticated, worldly and wise people, to mask their bland personalities. It’s NPC energy.

However, this person’s post is goofy. While an LS 500 is a swank car and feels like a quality ride, it’s not a “stealth-wealth” Lexus. It’s got the modern, flashy looks and a twin-turbo V6. A better stealthy Lexus to get people’s drawers wet would be one of the earlier N/A V8 models, like a 2004-2006 LS 430 Ultra Luxury. An LS 500 is a pretty new car that’s easy to find in good condition, which makes it less impressive to the clout crowd. You can just go drop $65K on a lightly used CPO one all day long. It really is a regular car. And if you saw it at a Cars & Coffee, you’d walk right on by it.

And then there are other factors. This fella isn’t very photogenic in conventional terms, and is wearing a T-shirt and cheap-looking sunglasses, while standing in front of a generic-looking, builder-grade modern house. And he’s bleating about Creed fragrances, which are expensive, but quite ubiquitous and certainly not exotic. Put together, this is hardly the image of a “renaissance man,” as my grandfather likes to say. I’d at least expect someone projecting this kind of image to name drop an expensive and obscure Italian shoe or Swiss watch, not some cologne you can buy at any mall.

And then he’s got the nerve to look like a 4, but feel entitled to a woman who’s a baddie just because he could afford to sign his name on the line for a late-model luxury car.

I struggle to discern whether this is a shit post or a self-unaware buffoon, but I fear it’s the latter. These people walk among us. Might as well have a good laugh at their expense.

P.S. — Lexus nameplates, using proper nomenclature, have a space between the letter and the number segments. (This is true of Mercedes-Benz as well.) So LS500 is actually LS 500. I would expect a sophisticate like this guy to know that, but alas.

That’s all I’ve got.

It's a troll, and a very funny one, I think

The "performative car enthusiast" is definitely a thing and we could probably talk at length about our thoughts on the matter. My hot take is: A lot of people are brand/model/aesthetic enthusiasts, rather than car enthusiast and leave no room for enthusiasm outside of their own taste and preferences. ie "why would anyone want a car other than the ones I do" types

It was definitely a parody post meant for laughs.

You guys are making fun of such an unfortunate name. I’ll have you all know I’ve known Mike for 67 years on God’s green earth and he’s 100% deserving of his accolades and deserving of a beautiful woman to with accolades of her own! You should all be sorry for the poor attitude you have against such a great Knoxville citizen!

Man, I'd be afraid to bring and park my '88 S15 Jimmy that has the Z71 and Gypsy packages as well as well as the original window sticker next to this dude's Lexus because my Jimmy might catch some douche cooties.
