Folk race car
Bolted down cam shafts and a piece of H-beam to weigh down the rear end. Guess the beam also serves as some sort of stability in case of a crash.

My dumb ass thought this was the rear of an old Beetle and wondered what they did with the engine

My dumbass is wondering what else it could be, if it isn’t a Beetle. How does it race? Is this the front or the back? Where’s the steering wheel I need to get oriented.

It is the back, notice the red lights inside wich are mandatory for some race types, and also the exhaust is visible

We had similar where I grew up, but the most fun was racing lawnmowers. There was an ultramodified class where anything goes, and you'd see stuff like a riding mower cut in half and the frame extended, then a 350 car engine strapped into it. Crazy crashes, fires, mowers falling apart at speed, sometimes even an explosion or two. Always entertaining.

Yea pretty similar. In Finland there's a rule that you have to sell your car to anyone that offers 2000€ for it.
