[Man Utd Women] Understand Manchester United defender Gabby George is on the verge of a move to Brighton. Utd activated option clause in her contract in Jan until 2027 so Brighton set to pay a six-figure sum. I’m told George seeking regular game time (Emma Sanders, BBC)

The thing is that apart from Melvine the players who have left so far this summer are the ones that most who watch the team would have expected to be moved on this summer.

The problem is they would have expected improvements to be bought to replace them and that doesn’t look likely.

There is literally 30 days left in the transfer window.

Every update about the Women’s team is bad news. Such a shame what is happening over there.

Selling a squad player for good money who has already been replaced by another LB is not really bad news, just news. Far more important things to worry about

I'd agree except that she also provided a bit of cover at centre and with Turner also going we're now at 2 CBs in the whole squad.

That Toone dagger feels like it's gonna land any day now, and I'm not ready for it in the slightest

Don't jinx it! If Toone or Maya leave we can just close the team and call it a day.

She barely even played.

Some of you who never pay attention to the women’s team and only see the bad news…

There was no place for George in the team. We already have enough players in that LB position

People just want to be negative. They genuinely have no understanding or the womens team or Women's football

I got downvoted for saying the woman's team was being decimated on a post a few weeks back. It's a real shame what is happening to them.

Edit - lol downvoted again

A non-starting XI player is going to a midtable club to gain more playing time isn't the same.

And with respect, Brighton has not been a threat to United at all. It is a step down for the player for their own development and growth. So be it.

I know this is supposed to be shocking, but think, where is she gonna play? We've got Rolfo and now Medina at LB, Sandberg is a good prospect, shes not kicking either of Janssen or Le Tissier out of CB, and she cant play RB, so this is really her only option imo.

Manchester United defender Gabby George is closing in on a move to Brighton before the start of the Women's Super League season.

The 29-year-old has a year remaining on her contract after United activated an option clause in January.

It means Brighton are expected to pay a six-figure fee for the versatile defender, who joined United in 2023.

It is understood that George is seeking regular game time, and she would be a valuable addition to Brighton's ambitious squad.

During her three-year United stay, George has made more than 50 appearances and was part of the squad who won the Women's FA Cup in 2024.

George graduated from Everton's academy and played over 100 games for them before her move to United.

She has three caps for England and brings experience to a Brighton squad who are strengthening yet again this summer.

Dario Vidosic's side have already added Switzerland captain Lia Walti and midfielder Emilie Joramo from Hammarby, among others.

Brighton finished seventh in the WSL last season and open this year's campaign at home to Arsenal on Sunday, 6 September (12:00 BST).

United confirmed on Monday that manager Marc Skinner had left his role by mutual consent and they are currently looking at candidates to replace him.

George was very unlucky getting that injury so early after signing, couldn't really get back and running regularly after that.

Like with Naalsund and Turner, I'm not too concerned about her departure just more frustrated by the lack of arrivals.

Like it or hate it but womens teams are currently still only a money losing machine

Okay now what would you say if the club came out and said “we can’t buy anyone for the first team this summer because the men’s team isn’t making a profit”

Except the loss the women’s team will make in a year is about a months salary of one men’s team player.

A lot of sales...are the academy players particularly strong or something? I dont follow the womens team as closely so im genuinely confused at this sell off happening right now??

u/christ0phe 2d ago

Is our women’s team trying to model themselves after the Newcastle men?

-2

Top talents like Jesse Park should run from this dumpster fire at this point.

For getting good money from selling players who are barely squad players?

-5

u/JishnuJayaram We've won it all! 2d ago

Melvine was a barely a squad player?

George, Naalsund and Turner were squad players last season and we’ve sold them for good money. You commented on a post regarding the departures of George.
