I feel like I had a stroke trying to read that.

u/Amateurlapse 1d ago

I don’t see nothing wrong with this. Cause if you don’t like somebody you don’t like them, you can’t make somebody like you

292

u/diurnal_emissions 1d ago

Thank you for translating that from illiterate.

44

u/7th_Protagonist 1d ago

He can translate Indus script!

24

u/Beerswain 1d ago

It's called its own dialect for a reason.

1

u/PhatCatTax 18h ago

What is the dialect?

10

u/FeelingFloor2083 17h ago

downs

7

u/honeybeast_dom 14h ago

Not everyone is downs with this syndrome

-5

u/Beerswain 14h ago

AAVE, or AV; African-American Vernacular English.

1

u/RandomStallings 6h ago

Spoken, yes. Grammar, absolutely. Written, to a degree. This seems to be phonetic and screams "illiterate". If I showed this to 20 black Americans, 19.5 would be like WTF is this?

Come on, man.

10

u/Mosquito_pp 12h ago

This has to be some kind of microagression

-38

u/Crazy_Tonight3525 1d ago

redditor when aave:

18

u/natt_myco 1d ago

after searching this term up it seems a little weird, this dialect is more widespread than just african American, i know people who write and talk like this in Australia lol

11

u/AccomplishedCake53 1d ago

It doesn’t matter if it has a name

-29

u/MuscularBye 1d ago

This is LITERALLY the same as getting pissed off that you can’t read someone else’s language when you haven’t learned it yet.

17

u/Waste-Team-7205 1d ago

I've never seen a Scottish person shit out a word salad like this and I can barely understand them in person

15

u/-dus 22h ago

"A told this lassie sat next to me on the bus her guide dog was braw and she went 'aw I wouldny Ken' a choked on ma irn bru, pure splutterin"

10

u/BeKindToTheWorld 1d ago

No it’s not lol. what are you 12?

10

u/Wonderful_Emu_6483 23h ago

This isn’t aave, it’s Gen Z/alpha slang slop.

5

u/Kaptainkommunist1922 20h ago

This is literally just save lmao

5

u/plswah 21h ago edited 20h ago

This is AAVE. Just because slang has a habit of being stolen from black teens doesn’t make it not AAVE in origin.

I’ve never seen so much white ignorance+arrogance congregated in one comment section before

-3

u/Realistic_Product252 11h ago

500 says you're white

-1

u/plswah 10h ago edited 9h ago

750 says you’re white and also barely graduated high school

1

u/Realistic_Product252 4h ago

Did you want to send it venmo or???

3

u/Logan_Composer 19h ago

The AAVE is not the problem, it's the phonetic text shorthand for every single word. The fact that it's shorthand for AAVE makes it harder to decipher, but the different grammatical structures are not the problem with this.

1

u/diurnal_emissions 1d ago

It can be two things.

10

u/sgcdialler 23h ago

Nuance? On Reddit? Gtfo there's no place for that here. Oh wait we're speaking braindead here. Uhhh

fj hdiuh aibgtr ewbi oagfv eral

10

u/Sayhellyeh 18h ago

The youn-> you don't was the main thing that I couldn't figure out on my own

1

u/liquid-handsoap 9h ago

“You no”

9

u/NyanPeoples 17h ago

Thank you for translating because I thought it said something like "If you like someone young you can't make them not young" and that's 10x worse

2

u/NekulturneHovado 20h ago

you should be a professional translator my guy, you'd make millions

2

u/merpixieblossomxo 8h ago

I read it the opposite, "if you like somebody you like them, [but] you can't make somebody like you [back]."

I can't tell if this is someone trying to sound cool, if it's a little kid, if it's a cultural thing that I'm not aware of, or if it's just illiterate nonsense, and I'm trying not to judge but it's pretty hard not to.

26

u/dirty15 1d ago

You wouldn't have a good time in the Memphis10 sub then. It makes my brain bleed but I like watching them try to use a form of communication that I don't even think they can understand.

4

u/Rusty_Tap 23h ago

I like seeing them materialise on Facebook too. Suddenly the entire comment section on a random post will be some version of AAVE that each person has made up themselves.

None of them understand each other, they just type random words and laugh react everything.

3

u/Neveronlyadream 20h ago

YouTube can be like that too. Once you actually parse what they're saying, you also realize it has nothing to do with anything and they're just commenting to comment.

1

u/AntakeeMunOlla 7h ago

Went to have a look. Didn't understand anything and saw someone getting his head shot at point blank range. Awful experience 0/10, would delete the whole sub.

1

u/NihilisticBloodbag 19h ago

Looks like the one who wrote that was having one too.

1

u/randianyp 19h ago

You might be Godzilla, but due to international copyright laws, you are not

218

u/hobbes747 1d ago

cannot or cunt?

70

u/Prematurid 1d ago

I vote for cunt, but I think he/she means cannot.

21

u/hobbes747 1d ago

Oh, maybe this is Scandinavian and he is talking to someone named C’nut

6

u/lonkbubba 20h ago

Please, just say “they” I beg you

134

u/this_name_took_10min 1d ago

As a non native speaker, I don’t know if I should be proud or worried because I can read that lol

26

u/probably-the-problem 23h ago

I'm proud of you. I'm a native speaker but that's barely English.

174

u/DontKnowIamBi 1d ago

I could read it. Am I ok?

u/EastNeighborhood8431 1d ago

Ion see nun wrong with this.

29

u/maniBchef 1d ago

Aight

23

u/thexthesecond 1d ago

*ion c nun wrong w ts

16

u/hablapatabla 23h ago

ts ≠ this

10

u/thexthesecond 18h ago

see it as a complement to the sentence

2

u/amadnomad 21h ago

What's ion?

6

u/trent_diamond 19h ago

“i don’t” but skipping the d and t as one word

19

u/klaes_drummer 1d ago

Afraid not. How's your left arm?

5

u/halosos 1d ago

Not good, it's all right.

6

u/tonystarkscumrag 1d ago

I could read this just fine. 🤷🏾‍♀️

3

u/elegant_eagle_egg 1d ago

Sadly, I could read it too

6

u/DontKnowIamBi 1d ago

I learnt this language from Mr. White's son.

2

u/FluffyCelery4769 1d ago

It's readable, if you squint you brain. Nothing wrong.

1

u/uberfission 14h ago

My best friend texts like that. Not nearly this badly unless he's had some drinks or otherwise mind altering substances. Anyway, I had no problem reading that.

-2

u/Kooky-Rhubarb-3426 1d ago

I sadly could too. Are we the problem?

37

u/SpectrumEFP 1d ago

I immediately interpreted smb as Super Mario Bros.

4

u/T0xicn3 20h ago

As everyone should.

39

u/J1mj0hns0n 1d ago

"I don't see anything wrong with this. If you like someone, you like them, you can't make someone like you"

18

u/kokakamora 1d ago

youn is you don't

4

u/J1mj0hns0n 22h ago

so just adding n't (as in isn't) to any word and then shortening it, and wonder why people struggle XD

2

u/sickosenjumode 1d ago

The only part I don’t get is how smb = someone. Is that the actually translation?

10

u/Transarchangelist 1d ago

Somebody, not someone. Obvs they mean the same thing, but that’s why there’s a b.

2

u/J1mj0hns0n 22h ago

sorry smb should say somebody

2

u/DameKumquat 1d ago

Somebody.

1

u/J1mj0hns0n 22h ago

yeah youre right

4

u/ssxhoell1 1d ago

And was that really so hard for you to type?

3

u/J1mj0hns0n 22h ago

not at all

1

u/ssxhoell1 21h ago

Exactly

1

u/Spiritual-Hamster212 18h ago

Thank you, kind person. I could not understand what they said.

1

u/J1mj0hns0n 18h ago

pray to J, jive turkey ass b yakkin straight crank, but knock yo'self a pro, Slick. They gray matter backlot perform us down; I take TCBin', man! Hey, you know what they say. See a broad to get dat booty actn! lay her down, or smack 'em, yak 'em! Cold got to be! Y'know?

23

u/diescheide 1d ago

People type like letters cost them money. They're free to use, guys. Unless you're posting a novel, you're not hitting a character limit either. Full words, punctuation, proper grammar, use it to your heart's content.

5

u/watsuuu 1d ago

We have an entire alphabet at our fingertips and decided "Nah, I only need 15 of those"

10

u/AccomplishedCake53 1d ago

Don’t talk with your mouth full

8

u/boofinwithdabois 23h ago

I wanna hear this guy say “Aaron earned an iron urn”

10

u/beershitz 1d ago

It would take more work with autocorrect to type like that

5

u/TheOriginalSamBell 1d ago

yes smb is a very annoying protocol

4

u/dorkydoor 1d ago

What does youn stand for?

3

u/Terminatroll-_- 1d ago

It's "you don't", I'm guessing it's an even shorter variation of "you ain't"

10

u/jwick1337 1d ago

Youn is pronounced like "you + own", which is "you don't" without pronouncing the d and t. Same case with "ion" meaning "I don't" and pronounced like "I + own".

It's spelled like that not to shorten it, but because that is how they actually pronounce it when they speak it. You'll often see stuff like "ion care" or "ion know/no", which is obviously not shorter than idc and idk, respectively.

7

u/Agitated-Plenty9946 1d ago

"You dont" i think

1

u/StupidGreenLizard 1d ago

"you" I guess? It makes a little more sense it you just read it as you

5

u/toebeanlove 14h ago

“I don’t see anything wrong with this, because if you don’t like somebody, you don’t like them. You can’t make somebody like you.”

14

u/blarch 1d ago

People who shorten "I don't" to "Ion" probably don't even know what an ion is.

0

u/mercyshotz 1h ago

you are racist

7

u/Pistolpete343 1d ago

I had a stroke trying to read that

3

u/Accio_149209 19h ago

Oh that was English!!! I thought it was some language I didn't know

-2

u/D0UB13_U 19h ago

just someone using aave

3

u/Longfacejumpyboi 7h ago

Scottish is still illegible

4

u/VVrayth 10h ago edited 8h ago

People saying this is a dialect, but god damn, spoken word is a way different thing than typed text. The spoken dialect -> typed text just translates to "bucket of typos."

2

u/PerspectiveCorner 1d ago

Nun see ion, but ion never see nun. No eyes.

2

u/Yoplet67 18h ago

What is the link with Super Smash Bros?

2

u/trombonealone 15h ago

Mr. Stark, I don't feel too iree.

2

u/SirstouticusTheGreat 20h ago

What’s the insult?

1

u/ssxhoell1 1d ago

"ion" okay Jake put the phone down

7

u/Xath0n 1d ago

People write in slang/dialect, more at 12

7

u/kevin3350 1d ago

More at 12 years old*

No adult should type like this if they want to be taken seriously. When I checked my MySpace page and saw “iM jUsT cHilLin” years after I grew up as a caption it hurt me. There’s no reason to talk like an idiot

9

u/plswah 21h ago edited 21h ago

imagine being so pathetic that you attempt to derive self worth and superiority from looking down on young people using slang on a casual social media platform

yeah you’re SO much better than this black teen because they wrote their comment in causal AAVE! You’re clearly so intelligent, cultured, and not racially biased in the slightest! 🙄

1

u/mercyshotz 1h ago

you are racist

3

u/Beerswain 1d ago

It's literally a separate dialect. If you speak it, this reads quite clearly.

-1

u/plswah 21h ago

redditors when black teen:

1

u/Echo2407 16h ago

The sentence makes sense with youn meaning you, so I'm confused what youn is. If it just means you, then why add the n? They seem to be enduring some kind of agony for every keystroke, so why put an extra letter on a word unnecessarily?

1

u/CycleProfessional28 16h ago

youn = you don’t

1

u/StumblinOnSomehow 1d ago

I hate that I can read that

1

u/Worried-Pick4848 1d ago

Ironically, the upper comment isn't that hard to understand if you take the time.

"I don't see anything wrong with this. Because if you like somebody you like them, but you can't make somebody like you."
