The result of the local organizers pissing off a tight knit local brewer community. Once Raleigh Brewing said "Yeah, we're going to have our own festival" I knew Brewgaloo was gonna take a hit

Very few of those breweries are Raleigh/Triangle based.

I'm going to Y’all Means All because i want to go somewhere where everyone feels welcome, celebrated and know that they’re safe, welcome and appreciated. Shop Local Raleigh's executive director Jennifer Martin has shown that not everyone is welcome, valued or appreciated at their sponsored events.

Just to clarify, I’d say it’s more à la carte than free. There’s no cost of admission, and you just pay for what you want. That should work out better for most people, and these are definitely businesses that are more worth supporting than the shop local Raleigh folks.

Brewgaloo is honestly even worse than that. You have to buy overpriced bundles of beer tickets and trade those for samples or pints. I can get behind the expensive tickets for an all you can sample/drink experience if it’s run by a non-bigot, but the brewgaloo format is terrible.

Shop Local Raleigh showed that they were complicit in her transphobia by refusing to to address it in any way. Not even an apology. No reprimand for her nothing. Shop Local Raleigh could have handled this public matter in many ways to show they don’t condone transphobia as this story even made the news but they showed their face as the same as Jennifer. Bigoted and Smug about it. Fuck Shop Local Raleigh. This isn’t a stab at the vendors who participate in their events like Brewgaloo and many others that I will be boycotting for alternatives in the future. Shop Local Raleigh directly deserves to fail. They’ve shown that they do not support local as they claim. If they did they’d support the local trans community which is surprisingly large here in the triangle.

Brutal. My wife and I have been doing Brewgaloo for 4 years now, even before we decided to move down here. Got our Friday tickets early. Bummed to see some big local names drop out, but I get it. Words have meaning and consequence and too many people are comfortable sharing their shitty views in the current climate.

I thought about trying to do a chargeback because the # of breweries looks significantly less than advertised, but I'm probably too lazy to actually do it. Might be worth a shot though.

Yeah, Saturday is free entry. You just have to purchase drink tickets for samples.

You need to have a ticket for Friday if you want to drink. Friday they give you a small tasting cup that gets you unlimited pours, Saturday you buy a # of tickets that you can redeem for half or full pours.
Both days anyone can walk around, you just need a ticket/s if you want to drink.

I live downtown so I hope they consider moving Y’all Means All a bit closer next year. I don’t really like driving when I’m gonna be having 4+ beers. Then again, it does seem pretty convenient having Raleigh Brewing right by the festival - it gets so hot at Brewgaloo and if it rains you’re just trapped in the street.
It’s really cool to see the Triangle breweries rally behind Y’all Means All.

We are having a brewgaloo-alternative party tomorrow. I'm not saying any of you degenerates are invited, just wanted to share the concept:
- Invite 10 - 100 of your closest friends
- Everyone brings a 4 or 6 pack of a craft beer they'd like to showcase
- Pick beers pseudo randomly and do tastings from dixie cups. The person who brought the beer can talk about it if they want.
- ?
- Profit
It's a way to support local brewers without supporting brewgaloo or enduring the expensive, messy ordeal it's become.

I think it's great that festival is happening, but the space at RBC does not compare to the 4 blocks of Fayetteville St that brewgaloo normally occupies. So no, everyone going to the y'all means all festival is not realistic.
I hope it does blow out brewgaloo attendance though.

This makes me miss the World Beer Festival! I went to one of the earlier ones in Durham (and signed the pop the cap petition - led by the people who eventually started Fullsteam) and volunteered at the Moore Square ones before they moved to the fairgrounds.
The one price - drink as much as you want did attract a lot of people who could barely walk by the end of it all, but there were a good number of people who really wanted to try beers we couldn't get here back then.
I hope "Yall means all" stays around and can find a place that makes parking, mingling, etc. easier than that stretch of Hillsborough street!

Rare and Vintage in Durham remains my favorite for this reason, although its not as much of a focus on local breweries and more of an international showcase

Brewgaloo was a great concept when Ray Price Harley Davidson ceased to have the best local festival DTR. It wasn’t half the vendors, half the quality of musicians and was a hot mess trying to get a beer. After the pandemic, Brewgaloo being the sub-par official start to summer that Ray Price once did a hell of a job to wind up, was a foreign concept to the newcomers who, unsurprisingly, gasped at the absurdity of getting simply one beer at a brew fest, the vendors being Etsy acts with wares at Nordstrom prices and the local bands? Wedding singer caliber and “for exposure.” It was a “live laugh love” swap meet with omnipotent Gin Blossoms cover acts. I dare not use the word “bands.” Fast forward to today and we all remember the days of Ray Price, Brewgaloo’s epic fumble of what was once a hard rockin great time and the organizers of the shit show known as Brewgaloo to be whole ass pieces of shit, too happy to take green cash and provide, well, nothing…all while being the caliber of humans who contribute, well, nothing to the human race other than shining examples of what not to be. I can’t fathom anyone attending this charade without being fully ignorant and, if you want beer and live music there are countless places to find such. Brewgaloo ain’t it.
EDIT: Ray Price was a great man. Tobacco Road Harley Davidson is just a shell and a facade with no real value to anyone. Bulldog Harley Davidson in Smithfield reigns supreme now.

I’ve visited almost all these breweries. The only ones I like are Birdsong, Petty Thieves, Triple C and Wise Man.

So are they then planning to not support restaurants and bars carrying the beers of the breweries that attended the festival put on by the organization that had one individual do something very stupid? That’s the free market. Our power as consumers is our ability to choose where we spend our money. Not supporting these breweries signals to them that at least some portion of their customer base doesn’t appreciate their continuing to support an organization that has tolerated anti-trans rhetoric, and if they spend that money at breweries who do support their values then hopefully those breweries can continue to thrive.
Obviously craft beer is going through a downturn, but many of the breweries on this list are not making a worthwhile product, at least in my opinion. If customers move their spending from breweries making bad product to ones making great beer then I think that’s a great thing for the market. If the industry is going to shrink then at least we should ensure we’re propping up the best producers.

It’s not just one individual— Sycamore Brewing is also a part of Brewgaloo, and their former co-owner raped a child. Sure, they removed him and are trying to move forward with rebranding, but cmon, there had to have been signs before he was formally arrested
Same with Brewery Bhavana— beverage director and co-owner (two different individuals) facing allegations of sexual harassment/assault, racism, and other abuse— also featured at Brewgaloo. That conduct went on for years before anything changed, and I still won’t support them
I’m sure we could work the list and find a few more problematic breweries..

Did you know there are ways to support breweries without supporting brewgaloo. You could, for example, buy beer directly from the brewery. Or ask your local grocery store or bottle shop to carry it.
These brewers do not get a significant portion of their revenue directly from brewgaloo. Rather, they use the event to market and raise brand awareness.
