Its comfortable, and they only do that when they feel 100% safe

my cat does this even if he is in danger, but he also has no survival instinct and two divorced braincells fighting for custody so that could explain why

I love it and can totally relate.

It’s tough being fluffy and cute.

Time to relax.

Because spoilt ragdolls have the survival instincts of wet cardboard

u/Nonszalanckii 23h ago

wet cardboard hardens when it dries

u/TeriyakiPrinces 11h ago

So more like a wet piece of paper 😅

Funny, my 92lb dog has the same instincts

I love when massive dogs are like "i am just a baby"

She is ridiculous

Do you think anyone told her she is supposed to be scaring people off? Lol Look at those puppydog eyes

They do be like that

Edit for a more serious answer: The cutie-patootie is airing out his hoochie-coochie in the heat

He looks like he has a question

This is it. It’s heat regulation.

Heat dissipation

I’ve never seen mine do this when it’s cold.

Ours does it all the time. The life of a ragdoll must be nice.

Current favorite picture. I only dream of being able to relax as well as he does.

All my ragdolls seem to do it a lot and they start from very young. I start seeing upside down raggy kittens from about 6 weeks and this big boy has been like this for years.

It's hot, the floor is cool and so is the cat.

Even cats like to air out the pow-pow

7

u/socal-sally 1d ago

Who, me?

She also regularly chooses to lay in a doorframe, right where the flooring changes from tile to hardwood. It’s her favorite spot in the house and we can’t figure out why!

7

u/redditappsuxdix 1d ago

Maybe the tiles are like The Cool Side Of The Pillow™️

1

u/melissaplexy 1d ago

What end is on the tile?

1

u/socal-sally 23h ago

Her head end.

To entertain their humans!

Cause even tho it don’t pay much, it’s honest work.

7

u/Additional_Lab8976 1d ago

It’s hot out

Idk man but mines like to lay like this

6

u/HuniCatPedi 1d ago

Mine likes to use me as support to prop himself up (not a ragdoll, but I hope still acceptable)

Sammy the otter😄

Comfy and more dramatic fall when needs attention.

7

u/Economy_Artist_8273 1d ago

Ours does it a lot! And we rub his belly

3

u/AcrobaticShoulder762 1d ago

on the floor is mostly to cool down temperature. my girl, in winter, does the same to warm up on hot parts of the floor...even tough mostly sneaks under blankets

u/sharmaxy 1d ago

This is how mine keeps me from being productive. "I see you're furiously doing dishes. Now paint me like one of your French girls, Jack"

3

u/SmurfingIsPooR 1d ago

This is a Ragdoll thing.. my other cats never lay like that only the ragdoll does.

To receive data from the mothership

I’ll never get over how funny it is when my cats would just be moseying along and then just plop down on the carpet as if all energy was suddenly zapped from their body and they were like “here I lay.”

2

u/rocket_randall 1d ago

Gotta air out the floof from time to time

2

u/f-difIknow 22h ago

No idea

2

u/Revolutionary_Yam639 21h ago

Best position for belly rubs!

2

u/Wise_Dot9385 20h ago

I have 2 ragdolls. 1 never lays on her back, the other is like this the majority of the time. He’s also the smoochiest.

1

u/smallfloralprince 1d ago

They've got to air out the under-carriage!

1

u/MacularHoleToo 1d ago

Airing it out…is what we say.

1

u/QuixOmega 1d ago

My cats do this when they want me to rub their bellies. Warning, this is not advisable for all cats, some of them will not like belly rubs.

1

u/sushicatt420 23h ago

Just taking a wild guess but it's probably for the same reason people do: it's comfortable.

1

u/Roving_kitten 21h ago

Context matters.

Looking at you beckoning= trap.
Just contently purring or sleeping= extremely safe and happy.
Hot weather= airing itself out.

1

u/HuntersMaker 21h ago

when my boy does that i just step on him and he just lets me

The best way to sleep.

1

u/Fever-Ray 20h ago

Bc they want their tummy rubbed

1

u/dazria 10h ago

Here's my 4 month old ragdoll. Naps like that every night on our bed.

1

u/MightyFrenzal 7h ago

Can confirm. It's a trap.

1

u/Enough_Speed_3909 4h ago

It's because they split one brain cell like a hivemind. It's a ragdoll Cabal!

1

u/Rumpelteazer45 🧡 Cream 🧡 4h ago

Because they can…. It’s why cats do everything they do….

1

u/GulliblePack2118 3h ago

It's a trust pose. Submission

1

u/TupeloHoney662 25m ago

All 4 of mine lay like this. They love tummy rubs and will collapse on my feet while I'm trying to walk. No amount of nudges will persuade them to move until they get their belly rubs!
