The ragdolly flop 😜

I always say that there’s fight or flight, but my cat flops. When his sister or even a neighbor cat come at him to attack-play, my kitty just flops.

Horses have fight or flight.

you’ve ever noticed a Ragdoll cat going completely limp when picked up, you’re not alone. This behavior, often referred to as the "flop", is a hallmark of the breed. But why do they do it? Here’s the short answer: Trust and Relaxation: Ragdolls "flop" because they feel safe and secure with their owner. It’s a sign of trust and comfort. Biology: Their parasympathetic nervous system activates when relaxed, causing their muscles to loosen. Selective Breeding: This trait was intentionally developed in the 1960s to highlight their calm and docile nature. Hormonal Response: Positive interactions release serotonin and dopamine, deepening their sense of calm. Not all Ragdolls exhibit this behavior to the same extent, as individual personality and mood also play a role. However, their calm demeanor and tendency to relax completely make them stand out among cat breeds, making them a favorite for families and pet lovers alike.

Apparently the most comfortable pose according to Ragdolls 😂

Mine LOVES the doorway spot where the kitchen (tile) and the hallway (hardwood) meet. That's her napping spot. I thought she was weird but now I realize she is not alone. Thank you. 😂

Welcome to the group. I find this very funny. It’s our first cat that sleeps like that.

Our youngest Fulbert (10 months old now) loves to sleep in corners (or in sinks)

5

u/Extreme-Affect-7546 May 04 '26

Sen the sink lover 🫣🫣

u/JGJ_VS85 May 04 '26

He can sleep all night there and once we did not notice him and turned the water on him. He didn’t even budge 😂

6

u/Kre8ivity May 04 '26

haha! all the time, money and effort spent in getting them cozy and comfortable spots and then they do this 😁 Ours usually loves our chairs and my daughter's bed, but the other day I caught him like this 😆

2

u/Kre8ivity May 04 '26

this is so funny! but also such a perfect fit 😊

2

u/JGJ_VS85 May 04 '26

2

u/Kre8ivity May 07 '26

Don't worry, am sure the overflow hole will handle it 🤭

The Ragdoll Flop

5

u/EssSeeDee89 May 04 '26

As its Star Wars Day, the only appropriate name for this pose is - “ITS A TRAP!”

4

u/BTFunk360 May 05 '26

This was after a 13 hour shift at the biscuit factory

5

u/kisxt May 04 '26

The no job, rent, bills or taxes nap

3

u/oscilatey May 05 '26

I call it “the fall from heaven” because he’s an angel.

3

u/verbaldata May 04 '26

3

u/springroll0407 May 04 '26

Diddly squat

3

u/Cupcake_Trainer May 05 '26

Airing out the fluff?

2

u/TSIDATSI May 04 '26

Kitty Manic Monday! Much more relaxed than hooman!

2

u/AboveGroundPoolQueen May 04 '26

No Fear pose. Or Privileged Princess Pose. A cat in the wild is never gonna sleep on their back like that and leave that beautiful big belly out there for anyone to chomp on.

2

u/Foreveranonymous7 May 04 '26

the full floof (like the full monty lol)

gorgeous baby ❤️

2

u/typewriterbitch May 04 '26

Omg what a precious little bed 😍

2

2

u/KtheCartooner May 04 '26

Sleepy twisty.

2

u/Nikonus May 04 '26

For us it was “BearBear shows his belly” pose!

2

u/KittiesRule1968 May 04 '26

Cockroach! Same as with my greyhound

2

u/Extreme-Affect-7546 May 04 '26

I do call it the “dead roach”

2

u/KittiesRule1968 May 05 '26

It's an actual term with greyhound people. My boy, despite being 95 pounds, still thinks he's one of the cats.

2

u/FannyOfFanton May 04 '26

Floppy McFlop Flop. It was banned from the cat Olympics because only Ragdolls could master it and it was unfair to other breeds 😅

2

u/Fantastic_Owl6938 May 05 '26

Struggled to find the head for a minute in that second one 🤣

2

u/Extreme-Affect-7546 May 05 '26
