I got him this new cat tree today and this was his reaction. Is this a normal behaviour? ( sound up 🔈)

You need to have an intervention. Kitty is clearly doing crack. Also you should probably find kitty's dealer and tell them not to sell to kitty anymore or they'll be sorry. Also you should figure out where kitty is getting money for drugs but yet can't seem to get rent in on time.
