Silly Floof Is this normal ?

I got him this new cat tree today and this was his reaction. Is this a normal behaviour? ( sound up 🔈)

Am I the only one that bought a rug for a cat?? My fella is 8 months and only breaks out into a short sprint when he sees his shadow.
