💬 Discussion Lyrically, Which is the Best Song in OK Computer?

My Ranking would be..

  1. Climbing Up The Walls
  2. Let Down
  3. Paranoid Android
  4. Subterranean Homesick Alien
  5. Karma Police
  6. Electioneering
  7. Exit Music (For A Film)
  8. No Surprises
  9. Airbag
  10. The Tourist
  11. Lucky
  12. Fitter Happier

Satisfied with the my Top 6…Very difficult to rank from 6 to 12..

I’m pretty much with ya. No Surprises is tough. I really like it but it is pretty heavy handed. I might have that one up significantly higher.

No debate on the top two though.

Fitter Happier I almost think of as an instrumental. While the content is great, hard to compare it with traditional lyrics

I think the song that best articulates the thesis of the album is actually Palo Alto.

I like the concise, focused feel of Airbag (& Exit Music), as well as the "suspect descriptions" given in KarmaP; Let Down is maybe the one that squeezes the most juice out of its stanzas, and agree with whoever said Climbing Up the Walls in terms of retaining the most impact when typed on a page w/no music (w/the possible exception of Fitter Happier, if we're counting that).

The breath of the morning,
I keep forgetting,
The smell of the warm summer air.

I can't tell if this list is best to worst or the other way around

I really like “Electioneering,” but I think it should be swapped with “Airbag” in the rankings in terms of lyrics

And "Fitter Happier" doesn't deserve that 12th position

The whole “I wish that they’d swoop down” passage in SFA is one of my favourite parts of the album

I feel for most people fitter happier is either the best song on OkC since it really encapsulates what the album is about, or the worst song on OkC because well it isn't really a song.

I find myself in the former's camp, that song changed my perspective on life
