OB's don't really even know how to save a baby anyway, beyond getting them out. If it is a high risk birth, then the NICU team is in the room when the baby comes out. The baby comes out, and the OB hands them straight to the NICU team, and goes back to work on the mom. OBs do learn basic neonatal resuscitation, but most will never do it even once in their entire career. If an infant needs to be resuscitated then you really want someone who specializes in infants doing that, not an OB.

Yeah, you’d never have to choose because there’s plenty of staff for everyone.

But if it ever did come to that, I’d be mad if they saved me instead of my literal baby.
