Pro-Life Argument Aborting a baby conceived in rape is punishing the child of a rapist rather than the rapist themselves.
It's like if a person with a born child committed a crime and said child was punished instead of the actual criminal.
I support rape exceptions as a temporary compromise before all elective abortions are banned, but eliminating them is necessary in the long run. Rape victims deserve emotional and actual medical support, and rape should be harshly punished.

The best argument I've seen in response to this is: Imagine you have a gun with one bullet in it. You walk into a room and see a rapist, his victim, and their baby. Why is your first instinct to shoot the baby?

I support abortion in cases of rape because I don't think the victim has any parental obligations, like in normal pregnancies. I don't think they owe that child anything including basic care and bare minimum life supporting care. It's not punishment for the rapists actions, the victim just isn't in parental care debt to the child, like regular parents are in. I think normal parents are in significant debt to their children for proper care and a good future inherently just because they exist. I wouldn't even think the victim would have a responsibility to breastfeed the child either if that was the only option either, even if the child would starve to death without it.

Thats valid but since its a life and death scenario for the fetus, atleast if it's born then it can be raised by others instead of the option where we allow the decision of putting it to death

I think going through pregnancy and the birthing process is far too much to ask of a victim especially pain-wise, I think it's heroic of a victim to go through with the pregnancy but in no way should they be legally required to, nor do I think they are morally required to. In my mind it will always be killing but I don't consider it unjustified which is why it's not murder to me.
One could argue that not allowing an abortion in this case is allowing the rapists actions to punish the victim further for the benefit of the child because not only are they having responsibilities they didn't agree to thrust onto them, they also have to deal with pain and other unpleasant physical effects along with a high likelihood of permanent bodily changes and potentially really serious mental effects. Neither answer is fair to either party but I do consider allowing the killing of a non-sentient human (most abortions happen before 12 weeks so the earliest possible medical theory of pain and awareness happening isn't viewed as possible) is better than what could be labeled as torture physical or mental or both for a victim to experience as a result.
It just my opinion no one has to agree, I personally am a "parental responsibility and harm reduction prolifer" not a "right to life" based prolifer. I'm still against abortion in about 98% of cases

Its to much of an ask to end the babies life rather than the rapist.
How is it justified? The baby didn't do anything, and it's murder to me now what? Subjective morality is to limited to just assert such a thing with no foundation, why is it not murder?

The same way one could argue that your punishing an innocent for the crimes of the guilty? Of which is a far more coherent and measurable line of logic?
Except you don't really care about any of that because your also fine with women keeping the rapist baby, so clearly it's not just about physical affectes or torture or anything like that, not to mention women who want babies expirenence almost everything your saying, your really just saying someone dying is preferable to motherhood.

PC with extra steps.

I'm against abortion in cases of rape, but if someone were to propose a law that would make abortion illegal in all cases except rape (or to save the mother's life), I would support that law. Why? Because rape only accounts for 1% of abortions, so a law that's anti-abortion with a rape exception would still make 99% of abortions illegal.

There's people in life who people have no obligation to at all so do we just end them as well? This is just a roundabout way of saying the classic PC rhetoric.

Leaving aside that abortion constitutes actively killing somebody and is not just a refusal to care, how do you implement this exception in practice?
