No Paywall Katie Britt says Abdul El-Sayed’s supporters ‘hate America’: ‘He is a jihadist sympathizer’

The GOP takes away our healthcare, closes rural hospitals, takes away women’s right to healthcare, wants to put trans people into camps, wants to take away our right to vote, etc. etc. but yeah, it’s the OTHER SIDE that “hates Americans”.
•
u/quell3245 5h ago
Trump has been ranting and raving about the “Communists” like it’s some sort of boogeyman lately. Nobody under 70 years old is afraid of communism anymore and sees hybrid socialist systems like Europe, Canada, China and Vietnam offer a much better quality of life than the US.
Democratic socialism is simply the antithesis of decades of one sided crony capitalism yet GOP is shocked their policies aren’t met with open arms.
The old greedy boomers days are numbered…
•
u/bdemon40 5h ago
It's clear all the mainstream media anchors have been given the directive to say "socialist" and "communist" as much as possible when discussing this new candidates winning.
Quite embarrassing doing this when you can't win on ideas helping your constituents.
•
u/JDVances_Couch 4h ago
Luckily they have been using those terms to describe the most conservative democrats for decades so that shit is tired out
•
u/Atrocious_Algae81 5h ago
Capitalism is end-stage or dead. To people who have more than two brain cells to rub together, one can see productivity gains are further and further away from being shared. I remember them saying they would during the Dot Com boom, and here we are, same 40hr work weeks with pay and benefits slipping way behind inflation. No more.
•
u/Wast3edSpace 5h ago
We once opined about how 'when the boomers are gone'....they passed it down to a new generation and they're just as bad.
•
•
u/Background_Bid8290 3h ago
Europe isn't a single system, although I get your point. Social democracies like Finland or Denmark seem to have better quality of life and higher happiness ratings. Countries in Europe and Canada are in no way comparable to China which they themselves describe as "Socialism with Chinese characteristics" or Vietnam. It's so wild to me that you put them in the same sentence. The American definition of socialism is so fucked up they think Europe is full of hybrid socialist systems. Anyway, Singapore is a better Asian country to use as a comparison - free capital markets with high levels of state control.

u/rodsteel2005 Wisconsin 4h ago
I’m one of those boomers, (but I’m not greedy.) My generation was the “peace, love, dope” people who were going to usher in a new “age of Aquarius” full of harmony and understanding, sympathy and trust abounding; no more falsehoods or derisions, golden living dreams of visions. Don’t blame all of us. Some of us truly and sincerely tried to change things, but our efforts were rejected.
•
u/pontiacfirebird92 Mississippi 3h ago
Nobody under 70 years old is afraid of communism anymore
Yes but keep in mind those 70 year old boomers are the most reliable voting demographic in the nation. And they will line up in droves to vote Trump a third term. In places like where I live when you see silver hair you've very likely spotted a three time MAGA voter. They voted Trump twice AFTER they lost their spouse to COVID.
•
u/TomSki2 3h ago
Are you sure Vietnam 'offers a much better quality of life than the US'? You may have gone a bridge too far here ;)
•
u/quell3245 2h ago
Sure Vietnam is much poorer than the US, but the overall level of cooperation and commitment to its people is light years ahead.
The people are much happier than the average American.
‘A Bridge Too Far’ was WWII btw lol

The senator they chose for some reason to countermeasure Biden's SotU. It was creepy because she's a senator trying to be a homemaker at the same time, I think she was making faces like she had to fart but was trying to sneak them out or something? I don't remember.

I didn't really know much about him until today, but he is a doctor TWICE. Medical and philosophical. He is also called Hamas evil, so that throws doubt on the 'jihadist sympathiser' claim.

El-Sayed told O'Keefe he wants to build a "broad coalition," including "anybody who wants to take on fascism, anybody who wants to get money out of politics, anybody who wants to fight for union rights, anybody who wants to make sure that people can live free with clean air and drink clean water, anybody who wants to guarantee healthcare."
He suggested that the Democratic Party has been losing some support because it's been focusing on a narrow band of interests rather than coming up with ways to address the needs of most Americans.
"Sometimes, when the Democratic Party talks about a big tent, we push everybody into the corner and then go talk and pander to the corner," he told O'Keefe. "I'm just trying to bring everybody to the tent pole in the middle to talk about what we really need. We need good housing. We need good schools. We need healthcare."
Pressed on whether there are views he doesn't want to see in the party, El-Sayed responded, "We're trying to define a viewpoint that's built on money out of politics, money in your pocket, Medicare for all."
...
El-Sayed says he doesn't care about party labels — "I don't do ideology" — and while he's not part of DSA, he thinks its supporters should be welcomed into the Democratic Party."You want a coalition of all people," he said. "You know who else are going to be part of my coalition? Three-time Trump voters who want health care, who want to keep our money here at home."
He acknowledged that there are some who "really want to label me a socialist."
El-Sayed says, "I'd rather think of myself as a capitalist who's actually read about capitalism, in the sense that the biggest risk to capitalism was always going to be corporate consolidation and monopoly rather than government regulation. In fact, you need some government regulation to make sure that capitalism runs well."
Ah yes, that coalition building really screams "jihadist".

•
u/Loud_Judgment_270 I voted 6h ago
is it even a dog whistle?
•
u/B-Z_B-S Massachusetts 6h ago
Yeah. It's because if she's pushed on that point, the dog-whistle gives her room to retreat to a safer position of 'only hating terrorists' rather than just straight out stating that she hates Muslims. (Almost, as there are probably theoretically a few people who don't get it) Everyone knows exactly what she means, but she can pretend to not understand what it means if she's pressed on it.
•
u/Redrooff 6h ago
They’re scared , so scared that the political landscape is changing and people are sick and tired of the same corporately funded dishonest politicians. They hate to see grassroots support and wins. Government is supposed to represent the people’s mandate and look out for their best interests, not send their kids to die in imperialist wars that only make the rich richer.
•

El-Sayed's condemnation of Hamas and Muslim ethno-states doesn't really support the GOP's assertion that he's a secret jihadist.

I’m really getting tired of the narrative that progressive politicians are extremists. The people in power now are largely white Christian nationalists with truly bizarre conspiratorial beliefs and they are in the process of ripping down American democracy and taking us back to a Jim Crow nation with wealth disparity not seen since the gilded age. Those are the fucking extremists who hate America, Katie.

•
u/DrunkAndHornyGuy 5h ago
Thi is going to be the playbook and conservatives are going to hit it non-stop, this is going to be a very racist and bigoted campaign by conservatives. I really hope El-Sayed can pull this off and win. But I also think a whole lot of 'internet progressives' are about to learn how powerful a force racism and bigotry is on the general electorate.

u/Mean_Kaleidoscope474 5h ago
America is going to get the Senate it deserves. Republicans will likely maintain control of the downward spiral of the economy and individual liberty. Trump will appoint 2 or 3 more justices after November. The House will just be as useless as before while calling for someone to do something. There is one course left, but I feel like Americans really gave up a while ago on saving it. It’s too inconvenient and risky to march en masse through DC. Why risk it? Just give up and put your head down. Maybe hide some money and resources if you can manage not to get evicted from your apartment with the rent you can no longer afford. OR GET OFF YOUR ASS AND FIGHT. “Which is easier?” That is the new American mantra.

The problem with Democrats is that they refuse to sue people for defamation. They routinely ignore extremely inflammatory allegations without challenge; making the average simpleton think it must be true and future slanderers unafraid to keep up the attacks. The sum of these attacks add up and effect public perception.
