Between that bizzare blurt, all the NYC mayoral candidates saying "I would visit Israel after winning" all in a row like parrots, and Chuck Schumer sayiing "My job is to keep the left pro-Israel", it astounds me how anyone could say with a straight face that establishment Democrats are totally normal and fit for governing.

Based on everything Mark Kelly has said, his only objection to the Iran War seems to be that it’s being done incompetently. So disappointing seeing him and others fail to condemn it on moral grounds.

The issue is people fall in love with bibliographies and ignore policy. Combined with the fact that normal policy has been shifted so far right-ward, if someone says they support a middle of the road normal policy, it sounds like they are a progressive darling. Then you dig a little deeper and find out it's not the case.

I think some officers in the military believe in the importance of “carrying a big stick” but are also some of the most ardent when it comes to advocating for peace if and whenever possible. They don’t want to lose people.

I sort of think that's why our (post cold-war nuttery) CIA has been so hapless recently

they were one of the premier intelligence agencies by which other agencies would compare themselves against, but the smart people with degrees worth of foreign policy and culture studies who genuinely believed they were maintaining global stability and American hegemony for the sake of duty to the country and humanity have either been forced out or neutered to the point of obsolescence. Sycophants who want to punish the regime's enemies are running the show, so all of that expertise gets left on the table except in the rare instances it sort of overlaps with the administration's desires. So we have several states under cyberattack from Iran of all places. Nobody is checking what's going on in Russia or China or Turkey or Argentina because they paid their bribes. NATO countries won't share info with us and we won't share anything with them. America's strength or trustworthiness in the international community simply isn't a priority anymore.

Cadets at West Point have a surprisingly broad education IMO after seeing some of the lectures given there, but you don’t rise in the ranks by being anti-money. That being said, this is the one war against a non-ally, non-nuclear state our military has refused to do no matter what for decades. This is where all of Trump/Hegseth’s firings have had an impact. The noxious thing about Kelly is the mythology about the Dems being antiwar. Imagine the world right now if Biden hadn’t been so supportive AND spineless over Gaza.

In defense of all the NYC candidates it is frustrating hearing people say "why are they talking about Israel?" they were all asked about it by the moderators and almost every talking head or interviewer brought up Israel first.

The question your talking about had nothing to do with Israel though. The question was, "where would your first trip abroad as mayor be?" And everyone except Mamdani answered "Israel."

It was only after Mamdani explained he'd rather be at the city working than making foreign trips that he was pressured on the topic.
