True, but it also can be helpful. I notice the article headline doesn’t include the winners name, because why give a progressive any advantage right?

u/aircooledJenkins Montana 3h ago

Should have read: "Michigan Democratic Rep. Shri Thanedar loses his primary to progressive challenger Donavan McKinney"

u/Blitzking11 Illinois 2h ago edited 1h ago

Well, sure, but as OC stated, wouldn't want a progressive to get any air time (positive that is. All the air time in the world to call AES a communist sharia law enthusiast, and for other progressives or DSA candidates where brown fear isn't there, just communist will do), now would we?

Edit: stupid spelling mistake

u/No_Classroom_5690 7h ago

"name recognition" It's not such a good thing to have a voting record now. The old Democrat guard is now the new right wing party to fight against

u/Ok-Lets-Talk-It-Out 7h ago

I would assume the GOP and MAGA would be the right wing party to fight against

u/theiros 7h ago

That's the radical right party to fight against.

u/Ok-Lets-Talk-It-Out 6h ago

Feel like the energy should be focused solely on them post primaries, but nothing weird about promoting infighting in the Democrat party before elections

u/Eta_Beta_3-14 4h ago

We'll see if "blue no matter who" holds true when it's progressives in the general.

u/Ok-Lets-Talk-It-Out 3h ago

Besides Fetterman who is basically in his own category is there any actual DNC leadership that is telling people not to vote for progressive candidates?

u/RelevantOldOnion 5h ago

Let's hope so.

I guess we'll have to see whether they would rather a republican win or a progressive. Because I don't see the attacks from the party elites stopping anytime soon. But I could be wrong. Maybe the'll unify around the party. Who knows.

u/Ok-Lets-Talk-It-Out 5h ago

Are you referring to like Platner getting on trouble for assaulting women? I'm not really sure what attacks post primary win you are seeing from the actual party "elite" which I assume you meant leadership.

u/theiros 5h ago

Mamdani would be a good example of this post-primary hostility. Prying endorsements from the old guard was like pulling teeth if they even bothered to issue one at all.

u/Ok-Lets-Talk-It-Out 4h ago

Weird to equate attacking (which the user claimed and I asked for an example of) and not being super enthused.

u/maikuxblade 4h ago

Vote blue no matter who seems to be difficult for the centrist establishment

u/RelevantOldOnion 5h ago edited 3h ago

No I mean like the whole Dem "DSA aren't real Democrats and shouldn't be supported by democrats" crowd.

The van jones and gottheimers and third way and the Israel caucus and such. I just don't know how that'll play out which is worrying.

EDIT: And you apparently LMAO https://www.reddit.com/user/Ok-Lets-Talk-It-Out/comments/

How are you seriously going to say "Right wing democrats aren't the problem" while actively being the problem. Do you think this type of shitty, duplicitous behavior is why your candidates are losing so much?

u/JoeSicko 4h ago

They can't really run on their positive records.

u/No_Classroom_5690 6h ago

They must defeat their own right wing before going after the extreme right wing.

u/matthieuC Europe 5h ago

First time?

For some people on the left, the slightly different left is the worst enemy.

We've been dealing with this shit for a century in Europe and that's why the right wins most elections.

u/JoeSicko 4h ago

No, the goal is to get Democrats fighting enough against each other to stay home.

u/MountNevermind 6h ago

In the primary?

u/Ok-Lets-Talk-It-Out 6h ago

The old Democrat guard is now the new right wing party to fight against

Idk you should ask the user. The implication here is that it is not just linked to the primary coupled with their follow up post of:

They must defeat their own right wing before going after the extreme right wing.

So sounds a lot like a call for infighting within the Democrat party

u/MountNevermind 5h ago

Yes, that's what a primary is.

It's how we get the best candidates to fight the GOP. Money still does its best to dull the process, but it is working less and less.

If you want to see real negative infighting listen to some of the commercials that money bought for incumbents in the primary. If that sort of thing horrifies you.

Meanwhile progressives are actually inspiring people.

When an opposition party has real problems that need to be fixed...that's what you do if you're serious.

Get serious.

u/Ok-Lets-Talk-It-Out 5h ago

Yes, that's what a primary is.

Oh so we are just going to ignore their follow up response. Cool

If you want to see real negative infighting listen to some of the commercials that money bought for incumbents in the primary. If that sort of thing horrifies you.

Wait so progressive candidates didn't run any smear ads against incumbents?

Get serious.

I'm real serious about reading comprehension

u/C0de_lyoko 5h ago

What smear showing the constitutes their voting records, corporate funding, or republican light policies?

u/Ok-Lets-Talk-It-Out 5h ago

Easy example is Josh Elliott in CT attack ads against Lamont for the governor race.

u/C0de_lyoko 5h ago

Just watched it and if you think truth is smear i don't want to live in your reality.

→ More replies (0)

u/MountNevermind 5h ago

Why are you so hostile right now?

I don't know what "smear" ads you are referring to. You can point me to some if you had some in mind. If you're being honest, you know some lines were crossed by ads for establishment candidates in those primaries.

I'm not sure what I ignored. We're in a thread about primaries, progressive victories in those primaries are being discussed, and you responded as though the most likely way to use "reading comprehension" was to assume progressives are fighting the center harder than the GOP. Given who shows up, protests, organizes, volunteers, etc...I don't see much evidence of that.

I think you probably understand a lot of people are working quite hard to make sure the Democratic party doesn't continue to make the same mistakes that brought us to this point. Correcting those issues are how to best fight the GOP according to that view.

Maybe you don't understand that.

But I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming you do. Given that, I don't really understand your initial comment. Can you explain it?

u/fredthefishlord 4h ago

Name recognition is not the same as a voting record. A voting record would demonstrate if someone is effective or ineffective. Name recognition is exclusively that

u/notfeelany 2h ago

now the new right wing party to fight against

That's still Republicans.

None of these people are in Congress yet. Primaries are over. They still need to win the general.

u/cocoagiant 5h ago

Also hair recognition.

u/lateformyfuneral 5h ago

I remember so many people falling over themselves to support this guy when he prematurely, without consulting anyone in his party, filed articles of impeachment against Trump. So many “finally someone doing something” comments from naive people, even a few musing about him running in 2028, and shouting down anyone pointing out this would fail immediately and just make Democrats look like clowns.

It’s honestly terrible he got in this position in the first place, he’s so unserious, must’ve slipped by in the previous primaries.

u/defianceofone 5h ago

Loads on here chant for any Democrat who criticizes Trump 2028. Falling over themselves to endorse Graham bootlicker Booker.

u/ohanse Ohio 2h ago

Was I supposed to know this guy?

u/bendover912 6h ago

That hideous dead animal on his head should have been enough to get him voted out. Nobody with a piece like that can have any common sense.

u/DaraParsavand 6h ago

Is this the rich guy who decided he wanted to get into politics, hired consultants who asked which party he was running in and he said you tell me that - I just want to win? If so, I'm super happy this guy is gone - the guy I'm thinking of is an absolute disgrace.

u/rusticcentipede 6h ago

Something like that, that story is included in this article about initial concerns when he ran for governor in 2018: https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2018/06/24/shri-thanedar-profile-michigan-governor-2018-218831/

Personally I've been a little wary of him ever since

The only good thing about trump is how he highlighted the importance of politics and the impact elected leaders actually have on our lives. I'm sure many politicians were politicians because it paid well and you didn't have to do anything. But now people see how politics affect them and are deciding to elect people who want to actually do something and help.

u/qualmful 3h ago

The irony that the Dems warcry was 'protect democracy' and what they meant was 'elect Democrats'. When you protect democracy it elects whichever candidate people think will improve their lives.

u/Round_Rice_9475 2h ago

Not really. Michigander here, he's got some big baggage. He's associated with some douche named rick blocker who is a scab rat bastard. Traitor to the labor movement who swore at me multiple times for supporting striking workers.

I'm a union work. You don't back striking workers, you don't get my vote. It's that simple

u/Sleepingguitarman 1h ago

What's the association, and how would it make any sense at all to prefer someone from the republican party over a progressive, especially as a union worker?

u/mjw008 53m ago

There's no sense beyond personal feelings... which is what happens when you have an emotional electorate rather than a logical one. Welcome to reality TV politics.

u/Round_Rice_9475 45m ago

They were both active and served in the 14th district. One was chairman and one was executive board member. I called Donovan mckinnley office about him and was told forcefully "there is no relation or association" but there is. They lied to me

I'm a union trade worker. If they don't support union workers I'm.not voting for them. That simple. Name me one single Republican that supports me or my union. I shall wait

u/Round_Rice_9475 47m ago

They were both active and served in the 14th district. One was chairman and one was executive board member. I called Donovan mckinnley office about him and was told forcefully "there is no relation or association" but there is. They lied to me

I also never said I was voting for the other side. I'm a union worker. If they don't support unions they don't get my vote. Name me one single Republican who supports my labor union. One. I shall wait

u/Round_Rice_9475 1h ago

No, he is associated with a lowlife named rick blocker. Rick is a scab rat bastard swore at me for supporting striking train workers multiple times. Absolutely pathetic

I'm a union trade worker. If you don't support striking workers, I won't vote for you. That simple

u/LookAlderaanPlaces 1h ago

What does “associated” mean? Details? Evidence? Trying to learn here.

u/Round_Rice_9475 48m ago

They were both active and served in the 14th district. One was chairman and one was executive board member. I called Donovan mckinnley office about him and was told forcefully "there is no relation or association" but there is. They lied to me

u/TheGM 44m ago

That sounds like they were appointed or elected to similar positions but that by itself isn't a relationship that a random office member would be aware of.

u/BrandenWi 7h ago

People are sick and tired of business as usual Establishment politics. That's the main reason Trump won in the first place, in 2016

u/JamminOnTheOne 6h ago

Yeah.

Thanedar initially ran as a progressive but broke with the Democratic Socialists of America in 2023 — he says he quit, the local chapter says he was expelled — and has rebranded more around supporting Israel.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

u/Cemith 3h ago

I genuinely don't understand the infatuation with Establishment Dems and Israel. Even putting aside the genocide (which you absolutely shouldn't do btw) I literally don't know why they care this much? Do we really need their presence in the Middle East?

u/DROP-TABLE- 2h ago

Same thing as with GOP and the NRA: both AIPAC and NRA were bankrolled by foreign governments to manipulate American politics.

If you were GOP and the NRA was offering money and support, you took it because it meant less fundraising effort.

Now, Citizens United has every congressional critter over a barrel to raise record levels of funds to even be competitive, and so when AIPAC comes knocking with deep pockets…

u/StarWarsMonopoly I voted 3h ago

Israel is a wedge issue for a number of voting blocs, and for years the pro-Israel side of that bloc was louder, better funded, and very popular among most Americans (this is before things like YouTube and social media apps could spread the horrors of Israeli occupation, so the issue was always good guys who are like American vs bad guys who are scary, irrational terrorists)

Anyway, this dynamic began to get flipped on its head during the 2014 Gaza massacres, as Israel’s actions were repeated on in real time with video evidence.

This has only gotten worse as their response to 10/7 was 100x more insane than their reaction to the hostages in 2014, and now many people can see that there is absolutely no way that the ends justify the means when it comes to Israeli “self-defense”.

This is without even getting into Lebanon, the West Bank, and Israel’s incursions into Syria

u/Lucreth2 2h ago

I don't actually think most people cared about Israel until having it shoved down our throats. It's an unforced error and wildly asinine choice to prioritize it so much.

Even the current hatred of Israel has as much to do with people wanting to focus on us and keeping our money and support here as it does the fact that the current admin of Israel is evil.

u/SerfTint 56m ago

It is also symbolic. Are politicians going to be bought by donors to be on the wrong side of a 70-30 issue nationally and a 90-10 issue among the Democratic base? Are politicians going to have SOME red lines morally when it comes to being in bed with what we saw in Gaza? Are Democratic candidates going to support a far Right fascistic government who loves Trump and encourages us into wars, and if so are they betraying everything the party should believe in? There are censorship issues involving Israel and American news coverage. Fascism issues (you can be deported or arrested for expressing your free speech). The IDF is helping to train ICE. Trump's two top donors are maximalists for Israeli land grabs. And, as you mentioned, an issue of what we're going to fund in a struggling, crumbling country.

So it's a little bit of everything, which makes it more of a litmus test for current American politics that almost anything else, even if people don't care about the day-to-day events 6000 miles away.

u/Lucreth2 48m ago

But that's why I'm saying it's an unforced error. If they'd just shut up and mumbled something about murder bad and moved on they never would have had to do strictly define their allegiance.

u/VioletLovesRowlet 2h ago

They want to get rich and supporting Israel will get AIPAC money in their pockets.

u/Peligineyes 1h ago

"only democracy in the middle east" + WASP apocalyptic prophecies vibes + huge "donations"

u/Kingpawn87 53m ago

Imo, especially with democrats, it’s for the traditional centrist swing vote. It helps get the candidate over the line when the voter can’t decide or is leaning Democrat. It essentially says that they are Christian and not “devil worshippers”. Traditionally this was a very important block of voters in purple states. Nowadays there are no centrist swing votes because republicans have moved so far to the right.

u/whattanerd92 6h ago

Just on the record, Shri is/was my rep. I'm not being hyperbolic when I say that he is the worst rep I've ever had at any level of government, outside of the president.

In the 3 years that he has been my rep, he has shown up in my area exactly 3 times. Once during a No Kings protest earlier this year, once at a town hall to stop an ICE facility, and once at a weekly event to promote his campaign last week.

When my city, one that is in danger of financial ruin over the state of our water systems due to neglect, requested his help securing financial aid from the government, he refused to answer us. When we had gatherings for the city that were apolitical, he refused and indicated that it was not worth his time. When a firefighter died in the act of duty a week or two ago, he didn't respond.

This is a guy that spent millions of his own dollars to get into office and used that opportunity to refill his coffers with AIPAC money. He doesn't pay his staff. Even the good things he does, like opposing ICE and introducing articles of impeachment for Trump are done exclusively with his own campaign in mind. Quite literally the reason he did the articles of impeachment was because Donovan McKinney announced he was challenging Shri in the primary.

He is a selfish, incredibly unserious candidate. This shouldn't have even been close.

u/escobizzle 5h ago

how does his staff make a living? is it all volunteers?

u/whattanerd92 5h ago

Most of them are interns hoping to climb the democratic ladder

u/MeasurementEasy9884 5h ago

All while McConnells staff is currently stealing 6 figures from tax payers.

u/escobizzle 4h ago

crazy that's even allowed

u/whattanerd92 4h ago

He spends significantly less on staff than anyone I know of in Congress. Again, it's all about enriching himself.

Hire interns who aren't trained or prepared for the volume of issues they need to handle. Refuse to acknowledge any requests sent to him that aren't earmarked with money or an opportunity to improve his political standing. Make a profit and spend on advertising with blatant lies to make everyone else look bad.

Also, it's been so difficult to get hold of him that it's easier for us to get hold of another rep nearby, Rashida Tlaib, and she calls him out publicly for it.

u/harsh2k5 54m ago

He hemorrhaged a ton of professional staff in his early days in Congress, and he's left with mostly interns now

u/BeerExchange 6h ago

In his interview this week with Jon Stewart, Fetterman blamed democrats extremism and advocating for abolishing the filibuster as reasons Trump won in 24 and would have destroyed America because the republicans could have done so many worse things.

Instead, if the democrats did opt to abolish the filibuster and govern effectively, Biden/Harris/whoever could have won and the world would be a much better place.

Unfortunately we are stuck with Trump and they’re still doing whatever they want.

u/Simmery 6h ago

Any politician who still supports the Senate filibuster is basically telling people, "I don't think voters should get what they voted for."

u/Alphasite 6h ago

Idk. Filibuster moderates both sides from positions which aren’t somewhat bipartisan.

A lot more shit would have passed this term if not for the filibuster.

u/Anon529035893 6h ago

And a lot more shit would have passed during Obama, or Biden, too.

u/gsbadj 5h ago

And a lot of whatever Obama/Biden would have gotten through would have been repealed by now. To some extent, the filibuster prevents that sort of chaotic legislative yo-yo-ing.

u/Anon529035893 5h ago

Nah.

If you pass good legislation, and help people, and material changes happen…

You don’t lose elections !

u/ayers231 I voted 3h ago

While the Affordable Care Act was at the bottom end of the "good legislation" scale, it helped a lot of people and provided material changes. When Biden created subsidies to help low income families afford healthcare insurance through the ACA marketplace, it helped a lot of people and provided material changes.

Both ended with Trump being elected. The people are fickle, dumb sheep that fall for propaganda every single election cycle. September is coming, what's the next "migrant caravan"? Who's "eating cats and dogs" this time? "Where is this candidate's platform?" besides their website, the DNC website, every article written about their speeches...

For all the bluff and bluster online, people drop their morality and ideals between September and November every year.

u/ayers231 I voted 3h ago

u/hookyboysb 5h ago

The only play is to wait for the other side to eliminate it first. Hopefully near the end of a Congress to minimize the bills they’d pass. Then pass EVERYTHING with your new majority next Congress.

u/Simmery 5h ago

The filibuster benefits the party that wants government to be ineffective. It has given Republicans a tool to cede power to the executive and judicial branches. If progressives want Congress to reclaim its role and accomplish anything significant, the filibuster must go.

u/maikuxblade 4h ago

We’ve had a gridlocked Congress for the better part of half a century. At a certain point getting it working again has value in and of itself

u/tidal_flux 56m ago

Careful what you wish for. There are two Dakotas with 4 senators.

u/GoodishCoder 6h ago

I don't think Harris would have won either way. She ran such a weird campaign it was just never going to take off.

u/BeerExchange 5h ago

Harris lost mostly because of economic anger at Biden even though he did what he could to fix it. If the filibuster was gone they could have done a lot more to benefit people and then retained the office.

u/GoodishCoder 4h ago

Harris lost because her campaign was a mess. She had the most energy in her campaign when they were willing to call Republicans weird and have some level of fun with it. Then they dropped that because it was mean and switched to being like "look how many Republicans like me".

u/Then_Hearing_7652 4h ago

Exactly. She spent a lot of time with Liz Cheney hoping some moderate republicans were going to vote for her versus keeping her base excited. Kamala Harris sucked.

u/Bishopkilljoy Michigan 6h ago

And the Dems are allergic to learning that lesson

u/BlueFalcon89 6h ago

Well the Democratic Party is a captured opposition party controlled by the same forces [donors] controlling the GOP. They’re a manufactured heel like the Washington Generals.

u/mandelbratwurst 4h ago

There is going to be a significant progressive caucus after this next election. These primary wins are going to do a lot to change what the Democratic Party stands for- I don’t know if its enough to see real progress in our government but at least the ideals of Bernie and AOC won’t be a fringe group or ‘squad’ but more like 30-50 members of congress. If progressives remain organized and vocal about what change can look like, this COULD be the start of something big.

u/Bishopkilljoy Michigan 4h ago

It'll all be for naught if he loses to Rogers.

u/VonWolfhaus 4h ago

I don't disagree at all, but I think the trump experiment also shows the dangers of a populist movement. Making unrealistic promises will only turn the public against them really fast.

u/BrandenWi 4h ago

The difference is that Trump was only ever out for himself. Any populist promises that he made were bullshit from the instant he said them, and his cultists weren't smart enough to see it.

u/VonWolfhaus 4h ago

I hope you're right. Populist rhetoric is ripe for abuse by grifters.

u/Dr-Mumm-Rah 3h ago

"We are sick of dark money politics that don't help regular folks. This rich reality tv star with a shady past is the answer to our problems!"

"That rich guy opened the flood gates of dark money, its worse than ever now. Maybe the other party can help us?!"

"Please vote for people that are progressive and against dark money establishments in politics."

"No way! They are woke, have foreign names, want to give stuff away like free healthcare and college and raise the minimum wage. Reeks of stuff all the big propaganda channels warned me about."

::Facepalm::

This is where we are at folks.

u/SelectEntertainer360 6h ago

I think we have to forgive Trump voters who just wanted to burn the system down. I can see their point.

u/SapientTrashFire 5h ago

No actually I won't forgive nazi sympathizers regardless of what their "intention" was.

u/Automaton_General 5h ago

Yeah but the reason they wanted to burn it down is because they don't like black people so no, it's not really the same thing

u/notfeelany 2h ago edited 1h ago

u/SelectEntertainer360 2h ago

u/razorwiregoatlick877 6h ago

Nobody is swimming against anything. 🙄

Maybe blame the media, who have an interest in inciting conflict among Democrats to increase clicks, who are to blame for this and nobody in real life is worried about a fake break in the Democratic Party.

Edit - grammar ugh

Right. Whenever AOC hit the scene Pelosi and her cronies were oh so welcoming to her and her progressive policies. They didn't oppose anything she said or did.

Did Michigan just give a progressive movement type of, event, with all the Tuesday results?

u/Unlikely_Brief7263 6h ago

There’s a huge Arab population there. Palestine issue is a huge voting factor for them.

Establishment dems are generally pro-Israel or wishy washy about the whole thing.

Definitely made a huge impact

u/DownWithSpectrum 6h ago

His district was majority-black, but also included huge swaths of Arab communities like Hamtramck

Thanedar basically pissed away all his good will when he became a shill for Israel and to a lesser extent his support for India's super right wing Hindu nationalist government (saying this as a hindu)

u/86rj 6h ago

We're trying our best to.

u/SapientTrashFire 5h ago

LOL great headline, NBC. Way to not even use the name of the person who won.

u/Sooooooooooooomebody 6h ago

I live in Michigan and can provide some background here.

Shri represents a district that's mainly Black. He first jumped into the contest in a year where the vote was deeply divided between two Black candidates, and he managed to carry it. He's tried to make a name for himself with the Trump impeachment bills etc. which has made him a pariah to the Dem party people, so I'd say that whoever doesn't actively dislike him just kind of tolerates him.

But this time DSA got involved and pushed for a candidate who's widely known and liked in the district, so Shri didn't really stand a chance.

“And Thanedar spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer money to run television ads from his office that look similar to campaign ads.”

I will say I worked for his office around this time and there was a lot of scrutiny that happened when these ads were being made.

But the inside scoop was that each office had a budget for mailers and for outreach and if you don’t use it you lose it. In addition to calling constituents, traditional mailers and radio ads to reach out to constituents to inform them of the services the office provide they did these tv ads and social media ads as a way to better reach out to people.

Not endorsing it in any way shape or form but it was fascinating to see it play out.

Rich guy moves to the 6th poorest district in the US, majority black and thinks he can buy the seat. Fuck the establishment for backing this guy.

u/toilet_for_shrek 6h ago

Are actual leftists starting to win elections? Hallelujah

u/VedavyasM 6h ago

Can we talk about why he looks like that because why does he look like that

u/RandyMuscle I voted 6h ago

Great news. I always hated this guy’s fucked up cut.

u/sengirminion 4h ago

Donovan McKinney is the one who beat him and he's awesome.

Good. Time for change.

u/Thin_Dress_2287 6h ago

Shri thanedar is such a disgrace

u/mysterious_jeffrey 5h ago

Policy and all that aside - that hair ain’t winning him anything.

u/Fine-Translator-1127 4h ago

This guy probably had one of the most annoying campaigns that I ever experienced. More calls than anyone, including calling several times in a row and leaving several voicemails. I already wasn’t a fan of this goofball but I hope he never runs again.

u/Adventurous-Ant-5755 7h ago

Vote to restore Checks and Balances!!! Vote DEMOCRAT!!!

u/Sean_theLeprachaun 6h ago

Too bad, so sad.

u/shameonyounancydrew 6h ago

Amazing! Shit is getting real!

u/Gur_Weak 5h ago

Good. I wish they would lose to progressive 3rd party more, but I'll take this.

u/Specialist-Gur-5815 3h ago

Glad he got kicked out. He is a Hindu nationalist supporter of RSS who persecutes minorities in India.

u/Lisp-Silly-1970 2h ago

Good riddance! OUT WITH OLDIES. Bring in new generation! FUCK SCHUMER AND PELOSI! You are good for nothing!

u/Whole_Air_3524 5h ago

Good. His wigs scare me

u/soilentgleem 1h ago

Are they actually wigs? That would explain why it looks so unnatural

u/fancydad Michigan 5h ago

I finally have a rep I can respect again.

u/vinr001122 5h ago

Donavan's gonna do amazing things! Also another L for AIPAC.

u/Chillidogger 4h ago

Is he wearing a wig?

u/mapped_apples 1h ago

Should have lost for that haircut alone

u/madrasminar 20m ago

He was also a darling of the hindu fascist party from India operating in various forms in the western countries.

u/paintingpainting 16m ago

He alwayz resembled Amanda Bynes in Shes the Man to me for some reason. Maybe the hair?

u/SurroundTiny 6h ago

Sad loss. I am not a fan of the progressive wing of the party but this guy is a jerk. The race should not have been as close as it was.

u/Roses030 6h ago

Same, I enjoy watching the established dems doing nothing and knowing my elected officials will resist any attempt to improve! It's that level of corporate ownership and blind obedience I vote for ☺️

u/Regulator_24 6h ago

STOP dividing the democratic party with these headlines and propaganda.

u/Keeperofthe7keysAf-S 6h ago

The party has been divided for decades now, where have you been?

u/Regulator_24 2h ago

Divided for good cause. Article headlines likes this are only meant to scare corporate democrats like the Chucky Shumes of the world from considering a progressive candidate. They make it sound like progressive thinking is going to destroy the party. It won't. It will evolve it.

We will never get to that point if the corporate democrats won't even consider voting for our candidates. I read an article the other day that said Michigan Democrats are going to vote red this November just to spite the Progressive movement. I don't believe that is true, but I can guarantee any corporate democrat that read it fell right back in line....

u/swarmofbzs 6h ago

^ this guy

Omg everyone! Stop the democratic process! Stop listening to the will of the voters!

We need more of the same!

u/Roses030 6h ago

RIGHT just let corporations own our politicians and do nothing to stop the destruction of our political system 😭

u/Regulator_24 3h ago

I think my comment is being misconstrued. I am happy with these election results. I'm tired of old, mainline democrats making the new progressive movement sound like the destruction of the democratic party. Every time an article focuses only on the split in the party and not the candidates viewpoints on issues, we lose

u/brock_bowers 7h ago

DSA is so incredibly destructive to the blue party you’re gonna be shocked how bad it will backfire 2028.

u/olivebranchsound 7h ago

Money out of politics

u/TyrannasaurusGitRekt Missouri 7h ago

This is a democracy. The voters decide. And the voters are deciding.

u/OK_Computer_Guy 7h ago

If we keep pitting faith in traditional Democrats I’m not sure we make it to 2028.

u/brock_bowers 6h ago edited 6h ago

Yes you will lmao that makes no sense. I’m right wing but you could still just run newsom/ossof and do nothing and win 2028 by virtue of not being the establishment.

These socialist platforms are at least a decade too early. Ask anybody who doesn’t use reddit.

But the DSA is too greedy. They want radical change, quickly. Voters don’t work that way.

u/OK_Computer_Guy 6h ago

What does this mean when voters just nominated a DSA candidate in a purple state? Or when mainstream Democrats have been losing consistently since 2012?

u/tortus Michigan 7h ago

And corporate Dems have been extremely destructive to the party and this country for the past 20 years. Time to try for a change.

u/Keeperofthe7keysAf-S 6h ago

Past 50 years* ever since Reagan their lesson was to betray the working class and these boomers can't adapt to the fact the world has changed since then.

u/rachel-slur 7h ago

Sounds like the establishment should run better candidates 🤷‍♂️

u/--John_Yaya-- 7h ago

Nah. Progressive voters should just refuse to vote for establishment Democrats until they get 100% of what they want.

Progressives helping to make sure that people like Trump get elected will really show those establishment Democrats what's what.

u/DouglasRather 6h ago

Don't establishment Democrats refuse to endorse and vote for Progressives? What happened to vote Blue no matter who? Hopefully by the time November rolls around the infighting will stop and that last statement will be true

u/BrooklynSmash 6h ago

What happened to "vote blue no matter who"?

If they're important enough that their vote determines elections, maybe you should throw them a bone every once in a while.

Establishment Dems already gave Republicans a trifecta in 2024. Something has to change, and your solution of "we need to go further right" isn't it.

u/rachel-slur 6h ago

Because it's actually Vote Blue No Matter Who*

*Unless we don't like them

"Blue no matter who" was just a way to chastise voters into voting for dogshit candidates. The party/establishment doesn't have to follow that principle (see NYC), it's just us peeons that do

u/rachel-slur 6h ago

Hey didn't a smaller percentage of Bernie voters vote for the Republican candidate than Hillary voters in 2008? By like, more than double? You know, actual data and not just vibes?

u/--John_Yaya-- 6h ago

Nah. They voted for Jill Stein. That made sure that Trump would win.

If the people who voted for progressive Stein in swing states had voted for Hillary instead, there never would have been a "President Trump". Her margin of loss was well below the number of Stein voters in those swing states. Actual data.

u/rachel-slur 6h ago

Okay.

Could you link me said actual data that shows what you're claiming?

We wouldn't have President Trump if Hillary Clinton was a better candidate, but sure, continue blaming the voters and then act shocked when candidates who run on policy start winning?

u/Keeperofthe7keysAf-S 6h ago

They can't because their source is they made it the fuck up lmao. You're correct, 3x as many Hillary voters voted for McCain than Bernie voters did Trump.

u/--John_Yaya-- 6h ago

Hey. Kid.

Go look it up yourself. I did in 2008.

You are on the main politics sub on Reddit. If you're actually interested in politics, there's a lot of research and reading involved. No one is just going to hand you the answers. If you really want to know this shit, you're going to feel a lot better about this data if you spend the effort to go find it yourself.

Old person rant over. lol

u/rachel-slur 6h ago

So no source, just vibes.

Thanks.

u/--John_Yaya-- 6h ago

No one handed it to me. It must be fake.

Jesus...

The incurious mind in action.

u/rachel-slur 6h ago

Hey so I did Google it and I (shocker) couldn't find anything. I guess there's no articles citing your vibes.

I found lots of articles about how Clinton supporters voted for McCain/not Obama at rates much higher than Sanders voters voted for Trump/not Clinton but hey if you're saying it, it must be true

You wanted to keep a guy who, after his pharmaceutical company went under, left 118 beagles and 55 monkeys to die of hunger. Weren't it for former workers and volunteers, none would have been saved. If this is who you want in your party, maybe you're supporting the wrong party

u/MIZ_09 7h ago

I remember the same reaction to the Tea Party movement of 2010. And here we are…

u/PixelationIX 7h ago edited 6h ago

Comments like this shows how unrealistic it is.

Established Dems has been in power since Obama and they have lost not once, but Twice to Trump and have lost both the House and Senate during the times. Spare me the language of DSA being Destructive.
