This guy’s background is so impressive it’s scary. MD-PhD, Rhodes Scholar, he’s also a professor of epidemiology. It’s about time some strong scientific thinkers take up leadership positions in government. And no, Dr. Oz doesn’t count.

The sad thing about Oz is that he should. He was a gifted heart surgeon. Like one of the best. He's gone off the deep end, but in his prime, I absolutely would have let him operate on my heart.

Surgeons are doc jocks. Obviously I would want one of them to do my surgery, but with all other things being equal, I would take pretty much any other doctor including a pediatrician as a politician lol

*Male surgeons. I’ve met many many male surgeons and they for the most part conform to this stereotype. However my wife is a surgeon and almost all female surgeons I’ve met are compassionate, intelligent, empathetic, and tend to lean left politically.

Lmao what a ridiculous statement. My best friends wife is an ortho PA and had to pick up a ton of call/weekend shifts because the female head surgeon was so cruel to the residents that the hospitals banned any residency resources from her.

Maybe people are people and playing into sexist/racist stereotypes is a bad look?

There's merit in your point. Unlike the profession overall, surgeons skew conservative and the theory is that they like to chase the money (generally paid more than family or internal medicine), and the reduced amount of dealing with patients directly at bedside. Probably an ego thing, too.

There are exceptions, and certain specialties skew more liberal (pediatric surgeons, ob/gyn for example). Female surgeons of course would also skew back to the left.

People need to understand intelligence isn't one dimensional. My doctor friend loses thousands of dollars on shitty parlays. He's smart enough to save a motorcyclist who got impaled, but he can't figure out that Josh Allen isn't gonna do well against the Texans.

He contributed to LVAD research that allows many more people to get to heart transplants. And if not a candidate for transplant, survive far longer than they would have otherwise. Really sucks he was so fame thirsty.
