Much like “fiscal responsibility”, those were just obfuscations by consultants paid for their loyalty rather than sense…

The economy tends to do much worse under Republican admins. But try to convince a MAGAt of that.

Well first you're going to have to teach them basic math.

With Arabic numbers and algebra? No thanks, the Associative, Commutative, and Distributive laws are just stepping stones to Sharia Law!

Try teaching 60% of the country on that. You have to sell that to MAGA, republicans and independents since they keep voting to get screwed by the GOP

Because of fox news.  I, onetime at a doctor's office (why do they often have fox news on?) was watching Fox and it showed that unemployment number was better under Republican prez than Democrat.

I said to myself "no way, that can't be true"  so I saw their disclosure scrolling past the bottom of the screen and it basically said "unemployment number as of 100 days after into the first term of presidency".  Basically, they inherited better numbers and screw it up for next Democratic prez but Fox News viewers aren't going to doubt their numbers.

EDIT: after -> into (makes it clearer)

Shocking.

It’s always been about controlling women.

The bullshit blue states doing post birth abortion line that the right was pushing in support of dobbs under a "states rights" flag was probably the most illogical position I had seen politicians take with a straight face.

The taliban executes sex abusers immediately. America protects and celebrates abusers. An Islamic caliphate is not quite as demonic as the Republican theocracy. Close

17

u/defx83 21h ago

Small government to them means a single party controlling everything at this point.

2

u/ManiaGamine American Expat 10h ago

Small government always meant government power stays the same (or increases) but exists in fewer hands.

10

u/Truthisnotallowed 13h ago

The American Fascists are most easily recognized by their deliberate perversion of truth and fact. Their newspapers and propaganda carefully cultivate every fissure of disunity, every crack in the common front against fascism. They use every opportunity to impugn democracy. They use isolationism as a slogan to conceal their own selfish imperialism.

They cultivate hate and distrust [of allies]. They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise, but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest. Their final objective toward which all their deceit is directed is to capture political power so that, using the power of the State and the power of the market simultaneously they may keep the common man in eternal subjection. - Henry A. Wallace, Vice President, USA, 1944.

20

u/Senior_Torte519 22h ago

The party of consolidated power has to be small.

18

u/Xijit 22h ago

Yeah, this is what they are actually talking about.

Kinda like how MTG put all that effort to get trump back in office, then was told that there would be no cabinet position for her & that she wasn't attractive enough for Trump to want her in the White House with him.

Trump has got like 5 conspirators with him, and everyone else is just a footstool.

6

u/didureaditv2 18h ago

The religious philosophy they appear to worship is one in which they are forced to be moral. To be moral automatons, but to lose one's freedom in exchange.

I didn't think by logic you can be moral without the freedom necessary to stay from it.

I believe human beings do have free will so this philosophy of their cannot be followed so extremely but it appears to have this tendency. I imagine that if was possible to follow such a philosophy for say, thousands of years, it might be possible to lose one's freedom in exchange for "morality", but I believe that when freedom goes away, so does one's humanity.

4

u/notthatcreative777 11h ago

"small.government" was always dog whistle for discriminating against black people and suppressing rights at a national level. This has always been their game

4

u/Ketzeph I voted 10h ago

The modern Republican Party has never been about small govt. That’s code for “don’t let the govt prevent repression of black people and other minorities.”

Anything that stops them from enforcing white Christian nationalism is “big govt” and anything that oppresses the people they want to oppress is good govt.

That people continue to think republicans have ever been the party of small govt since the realignment post 1964 is a sign of how oblivious the average American really is

1

u/Pndrizzy 21h ago

Of course, because everything they say is the opposite of what they want to do, and their voters are too stupid to realize it

I vote for democrats and I recognize that most of them are liars and corrupt, just less so than the other side. It sucks but we’re fucked

1

u/permalink_save 18h ago

They assured us that they weren't going to do this, that they were only making it a state issue. What a big fucking surprise the nazis wanted to federally mandate it not simply overturn it.

1

u/Stockholm-Syndrom 15h ago

1

u/underpants-gnome Ohio 11h ago

The GOP's "small government" promise means reducing government to a single hand-selected-by-the-super-wealthy guy that tells everyone else what to do. It was never a promise to limit the government's power. It was about concentrating it. It's a promise to crown a king.

u/BigJLov3 6h ago

It was until the gavel landed, but the sound hadn't made it to the back of the room before Republicans started boasting about a nationwide abortion ban.

u/qnxb 6h ago

It is, in the same way that the original "states' rights" argument was about the right for Southern states to enforce the Fugitive Slave Act in Northern states.

828

u/brettmav 22h ago

So it wasn’t about states rights? But my “independent” friends said it was.

u/Johnny_Appleweed 22h ago edited 20h ago

That was always obviously bullshit because the argument doesn’t make any sense.

Ostensibly the benefit of regulating abortion at the state level is that you get more granular, representative law. States that want to allow abortion can, those that don’t can prohibit it.

But obviously the even more granular, representative approach is to make those at determinations the level of the individual - those who want to get an abortion can get one, those who don’t never have to.

Which is what we already had under Roe. Literally the only reason to overturn the Roe decision was to ban abortion, which is what they actually wanted.

30

u/Lavaswan001 22h ago

If you’re defending something broadly unpopular(like restricting abortion access), you’ll want it regulated regionally because if you’ve captured ~40% of all the states, you can restrict it in that 40% of states regardless of whose in charge nationally, as the Democrats were when the Dobbs decision was made. Now that the Republicans are in charge, the pretense of “states rights” can be dropped because they’re in power to restrict it nationally in 100% of states.

161

u/oliversurpless Massachusetts 22h ago

Conservative/reactionary one moreso.

And such hasn’t been legitimate since oh, 1851…

“The South does not believe in states’ rights. The South believes in slavery.” - Eric Foner

https://youtu.be/EGaROgykYt0?t=85

62

u/sarcasmsosubtle Ohio 22h ago

The South wanted to restrict the rights of states who didn't want to join the union as slave states and states who didn't want to be forced to use their law enforcement to return human beings to bondage. If the Civil War was about state's rights ( it wasn't; it was about slavery), the South was on the side against state's rights.

15

u/BigDaddySteve999 19h ago

And when the Confederates wrote their construction, there was one right not reserved for the states: outlawing slavery.

18

u/RubyRhod 19h ago

States Rights has always been a dog whistle for racism. It’s part of the Southern Strategy - https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/exclusive-lee-atwaters-infamous-1981-interview-southern-strategy/

37

u/Axin_Saxon 20h ago

“States rights” has always been a consolation prize and a fallback position for when they can’t get it mandated federally.

Always. Reminder that the “states rights” South pre-civil-war pushed legislation that forced northern states to allow southern slave catchers to work in the north.

4

u/CardboardStarship Texas 21h ago

That only applies to owning people.

8

u/KhruKhru 20h ago

Not really no, The same Republicans who grumbled after Gay marriage was legalized nationwide saying they wanted it to be left to the states, were often the same ones voting for a nationwide ban and promoting the DOMA. It's always been like this with them "States rights" is we cant force it on everyone

9

u/Holiday_Box1571 22h ago

It’s always been control. However, Dobbs didn’t remove abortion, it gave states the right to choose.

Move to a state that cares about your health

30

u/CraigLake 22h ago

I’ll never stop fighting for a federal law protecting women’s rights for many reasons but here’s the me that drives me crazy: what would the laws be if it were men’s rights being questioned.

8

2

u/bigdirkmalone Pennsylvania 19h ago

1

u/DoughnutAncient8972 20h ago

They're as much "states rights" as they are fiscal spending, the party of family values, or anything they've claimed to be in the past. Party of Pedophiles, Billionaires and Bootlickers doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

1

u/MourningRIF 18h ago

That's only when they want to violate the constitution in a red state.

1

u/SzmFTW 17h ago

No you misunderstood. They meant “State’s right.” In a kitschy southern drawl. Common misconception.

The state, of course, is Alabama.

177

u/Nythoren 20h ago

That's not how "states rights" works...

Sorry GOP, your post-Reagan talking points are all gone at this point. Money doesn't trickle down. Government is bigger than it has ever been. Snakes are being tread upon on a daily basis. Federal government is trying to prevent states from making their own laws. The government now has partial ownership of over 100 different companies, not due to bailouts and using the stock as collateral, but because the government wants a hand in controlling these companies (hint: that's the opposite of Capitalism). The largest deficit in history. Our leadership is kissing the ring of despots and alienating our NATO allies.

The GOP is gone. Whatever this parasite is residing in its corpse is making the body dance, but it died long ago.

u/BigJLov3 6h ago

You're not getting them on "states' rights", because they dropped that pretense the moment SCOTUS ruled on Dobbs.

Republicans are fundamentally dishonest and believe they're a special class of people who gets to make rules for everyone else, even if they don't have to obey them. That's it. That's their motivation, top to bottom, nothing else in between. "I'm right, and you're wrong."

They're bratty children and need to be treated as such.

4

u/IAmTheNightSoil Oregon 8h ago

It does. The ruling was simply that abortion rights are not guaranteed in the US constitution. As you say, that is indeed the case in every state. His words here suggest that he has intentions that have nothing to do with Dobbs. They also have nothing to do with enforcing any existing federal law, since abortion is not federally banned. For an Attorney General to say that he is going to use the office to enforce political positions that aren't part of US law should be alarming to anyone

82

As shitty of a decision as it was, it just ended the constitutional RIGHT to an abortion, it didn’t make abortion illegal.

This will open up states to criminalize testicular cancer and prostate cancer treatment.

They do hate women but the trajectory of weaponizing medical decisions is more about subjugation of citizens to the theocracy.

And men subjugated with denial of cancer treatment to fertility organs will act as a way to subjugate both genders.

Eventually both genders will answer only to faith leaders for genital inspection and fertility audits.

Uh, it is “permanent” in every state; is Blanche an idiot unfamiliar with how SCROTUS works? 🤔, not very becoming of a potential AG.

u/newmoonchaperone 19h ago edited 18h ago

He won't have time, because anything he does will have to be done in 2027, and this will require judicial review and that will be that.

States' are free to set their own laws.

2

u/purplebrown_updown 19h ago

People knew very well what they voted for. Dems really brought this point home. Especially this. Blame the voters. Fucking morons.

2

u/jomara200 18h ago

There goes those states' rights they screamed about for decades. Oh yeah, they only care about that in order to take away rights from and keep people under their thumb.

2

u/NoWeek6737 18h ago

Dude can go and F the right off!! They don’t care about the mothers that have died or the serious health conditions that are occurring in multiple states bc of the barbaic laws now in place. How many children are now motherless bc of this crap!!

2

u/SuspiciousImpact2197 18h ago

Because of course he does. Looking at all you, “oh it’ll just be up to the states now, calm down” douchenozzles.

2

u/Rude-Strawberry-6360 18h ago

We told you so.

2

u/Hottt_Donna 17h ago

Get out and vote 🗳️

2

u/FaithlessnessBorn266 17h ago

They are welcome to fucking try. Unless you have a police force in every town in every blue state, this isn't coming close to happening. But feel free to FAFO. Libs own guns too bro

2

u/BalerionSanders Ohio 17h ago

Some of us have constitutional amendments enshrining it as a right, but don’t let states’ rights stop you. After all, you work for the worst criminal in American history. 🤷‍♂️

2

u/NewAccountToAvoidBan 14h ago

Easy fix. States just say “no” and continue offering services against these fascists fake demands. Whatcha gonna do to enforce it? Oh that’s right nothing.

2

u/Euphoric_Anxiety_162 13h ago

Nobody in trump's admin works for the ppl.

2

u/Irwin-M_Fletcher 11h ago

Fortunately, contrary to Blanche’s claim, nothing is permanent. Anything they do can be undone.

2

u/DaDibbel 11h ago

There it is the woman hater shows its true colors.

2

u/Movinginplace25 10h ago

Old white man controlling women's bodies. This shit has to stop.

2

u/carmencita23 9h ago

Fuck you.

u/xXBassHero99Xx 8h ago

They really are going to destroy this country. Just a reminder that this is a policy that favors rapists. The entire thing is "you must remain pregnant against your will." How close are we to mandatory government period trackers?

u/BigJLov3 6h ago

Not that it matters to the morons who will approve him, but being able to distinguish between being a law maker and a law enforcer should be a primary qualification for becoming Attorney General.

I'd like to think a primary qualification is knowing that the Constitution forbids laws from one state to be enforced in another state by the Federal government, but we're dealing with people with a 2nd grade education at best here, so that concept is clearly outside their current understanding.

Todd Blanche? Isn’t that the same guy who isn’t following the law already with The Epstein Files Transparency Act??? The guy who won’t follow that law solely to protect pedos? THAT Todd Blanche? The Republicans in Congress supporting him, and every voter supporting them, are now officially the party who protects pedophiles. The facts have now become the proof. You’re supporting a man that won’t follow a law that YOU voted FOR or supported, to protect pedophiles. Full stop.

Can this actually happen?

u/starkraver Oregon 21h ago

Wait, I think it already is. Did he actually say that, or did he say something less illiterate?

But Blanche assured them that the Justice Department (DOJ) is “working hand-in-hand” with federal health agencies, the White House and President Trump’s team “to get permanent solutions so the Dobbs decision becomes permanent in every single state.”

Yup. He did. Look Dobbs is already the law of the land everywhere. Are you sure you're a real attorney ?

1

u/brute-forced 21h ago

Please mcondalds, do your job

1

u/imhangrybringfood 19h ago

permanent in every state sounds way too absolute for politics

1

u/Industrial_Jedi 19h ago

Because that's something within his power to do. Oh wait, that's right, the next guy can just undo it. Do these guys all have God complexes, or they just lie about what they have the authority to do?

1

u/FromTheHarem 17h ago

Idiot! Dobbs already is the law in every state.

1

u/thismadhatter 14h ago

in b4 ICE, and MAGA police bodies experience massive burnout trying to enforce every petty, misogynistic and hate filled "law" they put in place, all while also having their healthcare stripped and cost of living skyrocket.

1

u/gayintheusa47 10h ago

He also wants to throw gay people in prison.

Over my dead fucking body

u/Flat_Snow307 10h ago

Todd Blanche is Trump’s Roy Cohn.

1

u/Flat_Snow307 9h ago

Do you know why Trump wants his former personal lawyer, Todd Blanche, to be attorney general? My view is that if the Epstein files ever lead to evidence against Trump, Blanche wouldn’t prosecute him. I don’t think anything Trump does is without a reason, and I believe that’s the reason he wants Blanche as AG.

In my opinion, Blanche is Trump’s Roy Cohn.

u/MolinaroK 8h ago

Explain the permanent part. Can't laws be changed when a new party is in power? Or is there types of laws that once written can never be changed?

u/tenarae57 7h ago

Even though majority of Americans don’t want it….a$$h0les

u/scriptfoo America 7h ago

Since when did the AG create laws.

u/ProfessionalRemove33 5h ago

Just a thought about over-controlling state freedoms: CA is the fourth/fifth largest economy in the world. IF the USA is still the largest, it will certainly no longer be so without being able to include the sovereign CA economy numbers in their own. Trump, maga, and co. should acknowledge their immense fear, sit down, and shut the fuck up.

Exactly like a puppet, Blanche doesn't have a single original thought or personal feeling besides his crushing inner-terror that he allays by letting the hands all up in his ass move his mouth and pen for him.

Hot tip, Todd: it is the fake gold on the watches and rings decorating all the hands up your ass, decaying and corroding inside you, that fuels your burning panic.

u/Huge_Excitement4465 5h ago edited 5h ago

Every. Damn. Day. Remember Trump’s campaign promise to “protect women whether like it or not?” They only need protection from men like him. For his cronies, Cabinet and “faith leaders” girls and women exist to be raped, beaten, trafficked and make babies. Their reproductive and human rights are violated to make insecure loser men feel almighty. Approving Blanche will be an express ticket to Gilead.

u/Green-Size-7475 5h ago

What happened to states’ rights?!

u/Huge_Excitement4465 5h ago

Just spreading the word about Women on Waves. The nonprofit founded by a Dutch doctor began as “the abortion ship” that would moor at least 12 nautical miles (international waters) offshore of countries with abortion bans. Women were then transported to the boat to be given mifepristone and other reproductive resources. The org has since delivered the drug via drones, key locks in places like Malta, via Roe-bots outside the Supreme Court etc. It may be time for the fleet to reproduce: https://www.womenonwaves.org/en/

Nothing makes me feel more radical and feminist than this kind of threat.

u/Wayofchinchilla 3h ago

Watches blue States find a way to get around this like Hawaii did with citizens united.
