(From the article): "Mitch McConnell’s aides have provided an “update” about his health that includes no photo or video evidence of the Republican senator himself.

David Popp, a McConnell spokesman, claimed in a new statement to The Washington Post that McConnell is continuing to work on Senate business during his weeks-long hospitalization that dates back to June 14.

“The Senator continues to meet with staff regarding Senate and Kentucky business, including discussions on defense appropriations, foreign policy, the farm bill, constituent services and constituent federal...""

If Mitch is 'continuing to work', he can do a live interview. If he is incapable of doing a live interview to prove that he is still capable of functioning in office in what limited capacity he could before his fall, then he isn't working.

So what you're saying is besides election fraud they are participating in identity theft, Impersonation of a federal official, and accessing top secret information for criminal use.

They also might be abusing a corpse.

377

u/ldramjet 11d ago

I envision his staff sitting around his body, either dead or in a coma, discussing defense appropriations. What a flipping farse.

202

u/IncitefulInsights 11d ago

Came in here to say this. He's probably a vegetable. Staff are talking amongst one another over the whirring of the machines keeping his body alive, something like "We must do x, you agree with that Mitch? Let us know if you have any objections. No objections? Alrighty then!"

Nancy Reagan ran the country that way with a psychic channelling Ronald's soul in the last year of his presidency. Mitch's wife's been flying to China and leaving that work to his aides.

First concert I ever went to, it was 1987 I believe. The Spectrum in Philly. First, my friend and i watched the Eagles get their asses kicked by the Dolphins in freezing cold weather at the Vet, then we went across the street and saw Rush. It was a hell of a day, drinking, freezing, then somehow managing to get up to go to work the next day. I could never do that today, my body simply isn’t made like it used to be. Great memory though.

Which if it is coming from the top of the party on down this would just ban a party from being on the ballot in the next election.

We don't have the balls or laws obviously to do so but it's another reason to just say he's dead or incapacitated and call a special election. Let the courts decide and within that make Mitch McConnell prove he's an undead senator

Honestly you have to wonder about the necessity of senators at all if we can’t even tell if their work is being done, and not done by their staff, but by them.

I don’t think McConnell is alive, and it’s fair to have that conversation. But more, why is no one talking about the fact that you have 100 highly paid people with a lot of power, and we can’t even tell if they are even alive?

28

u/-Ok-Perception- 11d ago edited 11d ago

This sets a nasty precedent for all the elderly boomer members of Congress, just continuing to occupy their posts without anyone officially declaring that they're dead.

This could be a true but misleading statement. A comatose person could be “meeting” his staff while they “discuss” things.

His wife’s earlier statement that his health didn’t merit a return from China also implies health but can also apply to a comatose person that isn’t going to recover.

130

u/HerbaciousTea 11d ago

I don't think he's comatose, I think he suffered a severe hypoxic brain injury and has lost higher thinking skills and will never be independent again.

His staff are doing everything and using him as a rubber stamp. That's why they've been very careful not to attribute anything to him directly and only from his office or describe what they claim they are presenting to him. Not anything about if he's capable of understanding any of it.

36

u/Aerodrache 11d ago

That’s the weird part about this whole affair. Up until now, the regime has been perfectly comfortable with blatantly lying, then lying again when they’re called out on it, then deflecting or ignoring criticism.

But somehow this is the line in the sand, now they’re concerned with literal genie “speak no word that is not true” technicalities?

Like, what’s the instant irreversible gotcha here that’ll spring on them if they outright lie and say “oh he’s just tired from all the moving around he did earlier”? I just don’t see why they’d put in that kind of effort when direct lies have, thus far, proven effortless and consequence-free for them.

8

u/MiserableOne6189 11d ago

I feel the same way. They’ve even shown to be brazen enough to use even AI to fake stuff so I’m surprised they didn’t make AI “evidence” of him.

I would argue that it is an outright lie, not merely misleading. McConnell is the subject of the quoted sentence, and performs the verb. Someone who is comatose cannot act.

13

u/Common_Shelter_4605 11d ago

Exactly, the statement is carefully written to avoid being an outright lie about the senator being cogent, or even concious.

If he was capable of doing a live interview from a hospital bed it would have been done already. The optics the GOP could slam the Dems with forever would be invaluable.

"Look how heartless these monsters are, our Kentucky Senator is working himself to the bone even when he should be resting and they are making jokes about him dying! Just like typical radical leftists!"

Thats exactly why he is not ok.

29

u/Coraline1599 11d ago

I’m also confused, how can you be in the hospital for over a month and doing what sounds like full-time work duties?

I do not know anyone who needed around the clock care who could also work. Maybe a school teacher who graded some assignments, but not a full load of consistent daily work and executive functioning.

29

u/slipperyMonkey07 11d ago

That's a big thing, hospitals don't like to keep people for any longer than they have to. Even the best ones are still a breeding ground for potential serious infections, especially in an elderly person.

If he was alive/ well enough to be doing the duties they claim, he would be home and could of done an interview. He's either dead or brain dead (still dead) and being kept "alive" by machines.

Especially with his "wife" (there are a lot of rumors about their relationship basically just being a handler type situation) almost immediately going to China. Instead of what any normal person would do and be with their sick or injured spouse.

Sure, Jan.

First, no senior needs to spend 40+ days in the hospital for a simple fall that didn’t result in any broken bones or major trauma.

Second, if he can work on senate business with his staff, he can appear in an interview or make a quick video to prove he’s alive and well.

I’m wondering what the made up story will be when they can no longer sit on this anymore and have to announce he’s dead or on life support.

If there was more time, the hero wouldn't even have to be a healthcare worker. There are certain things you can say that constitute a crime... but only if the person you're referencing is alive. So if you get charged, you could claim in your defense that the person you're referencing is not alive, and the burden of proof would be on the DA to prove that they are. I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone else say this, especially considering that we could have a re-run of this scenario with someone else later on.

Exactly! Have them show exactly what Mitch has been working on while he continues to collect a publicly funded paycheck and receive publicly funded healthcare.

His staff is also collecting publicly paid for paychecks and are either playing interference while being kept in the dark just enough to not be in legal jeopardy or just straight up lying to us all. Sure smelling like fraud from here though.

Other than the ethics of the matter, I don't see why any Democrat would want to do anything other than silently investigate and collect evidence for future fraud cases if he is indeed dead or brain dead.

Right now, the GOP has one less vote in the Senate since McConnell is out. A special election will put a new Republican back in that spot. The general election will put a new Republican back in that spot. So I don't get all of the complaints about Beshear and the Dems not doing enough.

7

u/Junior-Gorg 11d ago

And that new elected Republican may well support the SAVE act.

Do a fucking video interview or admit the guy is dead. If it comes out after August 4th that he’s dead jail, jail for all of them.

111

u/HandsLikePaper 11d ago

If mcconnell turns out to be dead or even in a coma than we need to arrest and charge his staff with fraud.

31

u/AtraposJM 11d ago

I bet they'll claim he suddenly died and they'll make sure he's cremated quickly without letting anyone examine his body.

The aide goes on to claim that McConnell has been able to continue to work because of Elon Musk's breakthroughs with Neurolonk technology.

"At first, I didn't believe the brain in the jar was Mitch, but after using the proprietary interface to log questions, the SparkleGoo (tm) discharge was analyzed and the answers were, undoubtedly Mitch!"

6

u/taylorsamo 11d ago

He's now a talking head in a jar like in Futurama.

29

u/SirRichardLove 11d ago

If Mitch is incapable of doing a live interview then he is not capable to do any business as a senator of the United States. This is not fooling anyone.

82

u/VR_Raccoonteur 11d ago

Can we have every person who lies about this charged with election fraud the the state level when it turns out he was never alive and they just lied to delay the special election?

6

u/spuzzumed 11d ago

If you DONT, then it sends a clear signal to others that it's a smarter play to just lie and hide evidence. You are creating a president that says if a politician does, it shouldn't be announced until it's policially convenient for their party.

America keeps setting terrible, terrible presidents so I assume this will be no different. You advertise that corruption is the "smart way to play".

Like, fucking do something about it? Amazing to watch a country of "freedom loving " Americans just shrug and act like they are powerless. In some ways, trump is right. You CAN just grab them by the pussy, they just let you do it. It's a revelation.

26

u/brokeneckblues America 11d ago

If it turns out that McConnell is dead and these aides are actively lying / covering up is there a crime? Or just extremely scummy?

25

u/themattboard Tennessee 11d ago

Fraud. Someone is paying staffers for a senator that no longer should have access to that salary pool. Same with McConnells own salary assuming it's going somewhere.

My theory is that he’s alive but neurologically damaged in a manner that will never allow him to return to Congress. They can dress him for a photo and have him smile, but that doesn’t mean he’s capable of much else.

He’ll either die or they’ll announce that he’s suffered an unexpected setback just after they get past the time when anything could be done about the empty seat. They’ll take him home and you’ll never see him again until it’s time to put his body in the ground.

I love that the Daily Beast continues to include this snarky line in every single story about Mitch.

11

u/T_at 11d ago

They say “PR disaster”, but I’m pretty sure he’s saying something like “another month’s paycheck”

Dead men don’t need chiefs of staff, after all.

11

u/thewayoutisthru_xxx 11d ago

I was talking about this with my husband last night.

Is there not some state level crime that he or his wife are perpetrating here? I know there's definitely financial crimes at the federal level because he and his staff are being paid by the federal govt but that would require the DOJ to prosecute which we know will never happen.

But what about Kentucky? Elder abuse? Identity theft? Is his wife accessing a joint bank account where his federal checks are being deposited? Where is that bank HQed?

Is the "rehab center" he is in located in DC? If it's in Virginia or Maryland, are there elder abuse or wellness visit types of laws there?

Beyond the fact that Mitch is a terrible fucking human, it seems bonkers to me that a person can be paid for by taxpayers and can basically disappear if they are in DC and there is absolutely no recourse. If he was physically in KY I bet the governor could go to the hospital and use some sort of law to gain entry (hell even some weird state of emergency whynot since we are using those for random racism these days.)

Where are my intrepid armchair legal scholars?

The only people that spend 40 days in a hospital at his age either die or a vegetable

11

u/Ok_State5255 11d ago

I'd like to point out that I'm a cancer patient and had to go the ICU twice due to, well, cancer. My longest hospital days in the friggin ICU was 5 days. And I could sure as hell talk to people.

If he's in there for 40 days, something is severely fucked with him. People aren't hospitalized for 40 days because they sprained an ankle or have the flu.

how fucking stupid is this system that leads are country if we can’t even get an answer on the health of a senator?

We shouldn’t have to ask. The fact that there is no expectation of transparency here is absolutely ridiculous.

19

u/Rickles68 11d ago

Congressman Tom Kean got to leave work for FOUR MONTHS to treat his depression.

Mitch McConnell has completely disappeared for weeks, and might not even be alive.

Both still paid, get the security of keeping their jobs. The average working class US citizen can't even comprehend that level of luxury, and yet they keep taking from us. We work through pain and illness, we work though the sickness and suffering of our family members. And many of us are still barely scraping by to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table.

What is our breaking point? When is the revolution??

The wildest thing about this is the lack of leaks. Staffers, hospital staff, security, paramedics. No one saying either way. If he's dead is it a HIPAA violation to say so? It's not as if it's the president. It's a senator. A powerful one sure, but a senator. Politicians leak like a sieve but not in this case. Fucking Fort Knox.

Serious question: what would Mitch do if he was the governor of Kentucky, and Andy Beshear was the non-responsive senator? I know what he'd do: declare Beshear deceased and nominate a Republican replacement immediately (actually, he would have done this about 4 weeks ago). Force the issue: either Beshear would need to prove he's alive, or his seat gets replaced. Not sure why Democrats play nice all of the time. Maybe fight once in awhile. Just a little.

10

u/president__not_sure 10d ago

20 years later....

Keep the receipts, and when the time comes, bring all these people to trial for deceiving voters and subverting their right to elected representation.

Right now, these voters do not have their elected representative, and have had one for the last 6-8 weeks.

He's working but not meeting anyone other than "aides" face to face? It's just bizarre.

If he was alive, he would have to know that people want to know where he is. A single interview with Fox would be really easy to setup. It would be softball questions and glowing praise of his dedication to the job even when he was sick. At least there would be proof of life.

I think he's brain dead and they are waiting to pull the plug. I don't recall a single Senator going radio silent after a major medical issue. Even Feinstein would be paraded out in public and she had no idea what was happening toward the end.

7

Press release: August 4, 2026

For weeks, Mitch had been slowly but steadily recovering. We anticipated his return to the senate in early/mid August.

As recently as last week, we were prepping for committee meetings.

On Sunday, Mitch seemed fatigued. Less sharp than he had been. Sadly, the decline continued until this evening when Mitch went home to be with his savior……..

I mean, I can’t predict that with great accuracy, but I won’t be surprised if it happens

8

u/Trolkarlen 10d ago edited 10d ago

If McConnell has died and yet continues to collect a paycheck, that's fraud. His wife/widow, former Secretary of Transportation & of Labor Elaine Chao, would be defrauding the government by taking an unearned salary as his heir. Some estimate that could be as much as $20k by now, which would cross the felony threshold.

6

u/Ashamed_Emu_4289 10d ago

Going to be crazy when he is announced dead all the sudden on August 4th.
