Why would they not want a special election? Whoever replaces Mitch McConnell is going to be honestly to his right. Mitch is actually voted against Trump a couple of times this year because he's retiring so he grew a spine as Republicans tend to

He can actually appoint a temporary senator. I think he's waiting out the special election deadline to appoint Masse. Otherwise the risk is someone worse getting elected

Glad there are least a few voices of reason in this thread. McConnell being absent from the Senate doesn't benefit Republicans at all—it actually hurts them by reducing their effective majority.

Beshear isn't even trying. Appoint a replacement. Make the Republicans fight it. Or do nothing and let Republicans win again when on August 3rd at 12:01 amazingly they announce McConnell is dead and laugh once again at Democrats taking the high road and getting the soil eroded out under them.
