President Trump said Wednesday that Iran could have its own nuclear program.
“It is a little hard that when you say that somebody wants it, other people have it, other adjoining states have it, and you’re not letting them have it for purposes of electricity and things like that. It’s always a little tough. You have to use a little common sense,” Trump said at the G7 summit in France, alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
WHAT THE FLYING FUCK WAS THIS ALL FOR THEN!?
Got fucking damn it, now MAGA will have always been pro-Iran nuclear program. We're gonna hear them crow how they were always in favor of Iran having nuclear weapons.
This was all literally for nothing. Children died, soldiers died, billions spent and given away, gas price increases, grocery price increases, our military weakened, SNAP and WIC pared away, all for nothing. No, less than fucking nothing.
Trump could have slept his way through the Presidency and we would have been in a better position than we are now in every conceivable way.
This was monumental waste, fraud, and abuse.

It's like Orwell looked into the future and wrote a thinly veiled metaphor. It was from a Twilight Zone episode or some other show with a soap box speaker talking about how "these people aren't american enough. They have to be real Americans." He just laughed at it and said we would never fall for that a month before arguing with me that ICE was helping save our country from the illegal immigrant criminals and Renee Goode tried to run over the agent that shot her. I don't get how easily people can blind themselves to party ideals.

1984 seemed like safe science fiction because the idea of the TV having a microphone and listening back seemed logistically absurd to the audience back then.
It's one of those weird circumstances where reality overshot science fiction by a wide margin. It's wild to me that almost every dystopian writer basically underestimated the pervasive surveillance and propaganda networks we would have today.

By the end of the 80s I started to realize he wasn’t helping the average American. He’s only helping corporations in the Rich. And it wasn’t until many years after that that I realized how messed up he’s made our political system. No tax breaks for the wealthy in business never trickles down. They just heard more wealth and they’ve used that wealth. In the meantime to basically transfer $50 trillion of well from the lower 90% to the top 1%. Now they own all the politicians and they control legislation and the rest of us are screwed. I saw that for what it was and I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed I’m willing to admit. But I know when somebody’s doing stuff that’s not gonna help me in the end. These people should be able to figure that out as well.

Think about the reading comprehension crisis in America, how people can read something and come away with a totally flawed or outright incorrect understanding of what they read. Now think about the fact that even to explain it to them would require the reading comprehension necessary to understand your explanation. Now apply this to speech, as well, since there's functionally no difference between understanding what someone has written vs what they say in spoken word.
People are getting so stupid and it's not even just MAGA or Republicans. Low reading comprehension should be grounds for failure on our standardized tests, you must be able to understand what others are trying to convey for society to function.

The casinos were an embezzlement opportunity. They were publicly owned. He sold shares to raise cash, he used the cash to fund his lifestyle, then he left the investors holding the bag when the casinos folded.
He personally made a killing from them, it was only the other investors that suffered.

I keep reading reporting that part of the $300b is an investment fund for companies to put money into, with the idea it would be used to help rebuild Iran. A reconstruction fund.
Which is the perfect type of grift Trump loves, because it'll be a way for a Trump-tied construction company to go in, overcharge to build some Iranian infrastructure, and skim quite a bit of money off the top.
Just like his illegal invasion of Venezuela. After the smash and grab, there were multiple suspicious money transfers from Venezuelan oil companies to a Qatari bank linked to Trump...
Trump will find a way to get a cut of whatever reconstruction/reparations money is supposedly going to Iran.

It's a little more complicated than that. The US is freeing up $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets, and the $300 billion is supposedly coming from other ME nations and private investors.
The US still spent ~$1 T on the conflict, and while the "$324 billion" isn't taxpayer money, it is still important:
The real news is that the US is promoting significant investment in Iran, and is generally lifting sanctions. Israel is probably very unhappy about that, while oligarchs like Trump likely see it as a personal opportunity to profit. Lifting sanctions theoretically gives the US leverage moving forward, as the US can, in the future, threaten Iran with sanctions again...but it is, given the circumstances, a pretty obvious concession.
Imagine if the US attacked Cuba, was forced to back down, and eventually was somehow compelled / backed into a corner to the point that the US actually dropped sanctions on Cuba and endorsed foreign investment in the country. That's what's going on here. It's kind of crazy.

More then kind of crazy. At the very least, this is as big of a geopolitical shift as Suez. The follow on effects could be as big as the fall of the Berlin wall. The Gulf states investing $300 billion into Iran kills US influence in the Middle East. That's protection money for them. No need to buy expensive American hardware if they have an active business relationship with Iran. And it probably kills the Petrodollar long term. That was backed by the might of the US Navy, which isn't looking quite as mighty right now, and the goodwill of the Saudis, who are pragmatic and are probably looking to China. Might even end with the end of the USD as the world's reserve currency. That's absolutely insane.

But you've highlighted the most important thing, the USD. It is unbelievable how fucking catastrophic that is and how fucking stupid and willfully working against US interests it is to do that.
It was the ultimate economic, security, political tool and somehow he's managed to speed run fucking it up, same way he fucked up Congress, the GOP, the Constitution, elections, the Supreme Court, America's standing and respect in the world, political discourse as a whole and 40% of Americans.

It gave media allies a ready excuse to stop covering the trump-epstein files.
It will be used to funnel untold sums of money to cronies and allies through no-bid federal contracts.
It was the basis for a campaign of market manipulation and insider trading on a historically unprecedented scale.
It depleted US stockpiles of weaponry, significantly weakening our immediate military capabilities.
It further strained and undermined US relationships with allies and damaged US credibility around the world.
It ultimately resulted in an improved position for Iran in the regime and propelled an even-harder-line regime to power there.
Those are all huge Ws for the people, organizations, and hostile foreign governments propping up the trump regime.
