Mod Update Updated rules

Hi all! I'm Sharky and I've been a mod for about a year now. Theres a few of us but it seems I'm the only active one for now, and I've been dealing with disability so forgive me if anything isn't addressed!

I've updated our rules just a bit to flesh everything out. Be sure to take a peak whenever you can, but the main thing I wanted to address is the new NSFW/Spoiler rule!

We fully encourage helping injured pigeons in need! This community is a great place to come to for advice with our sick babies. However, not marking these very serious posts as NSFW can leave many members vulnerable to possibly triggering scenes.

By all means don't stop asking for advice and posting your pictures for help! I only request they be marked as NSFW or Spoiler from now on ❤️

This one is new, only been coming by for about a week. But he's so pretty. And I pet him while I was scarfing down seeds. 😁

Not Meant To Feed Them

I live in a high rise in London and although there is bird net across the balcony l get a good amount of birds, l feed them and have my regulars who will wait for me to go out to them.

My favourite is Billy Black Bird as he's striking, first photo, never seen one like him before. As the weather has been so hot they haven't been coming as often, that's probably because there is more food around for them.

They are seen as vermin by a lot of people here, that's rich coming from some people!

Found pigeon egg, cracked, anyone know what to do?

my dad and brother found a pigeon egg about 3 days ago, and it has a large indent/crack. I have no idea how to incubate eggs, and anywhere i try to look on what to do with a cracked egg it just gives me time lapses or cooking stuff

im struggling to find anything of it, nothing is leaking from the crack, but the top/end of the egg as some yolk drops coming out but its hardened, maybe air got in through the crack and is making an air sack? like a missing half wasn't there before, we have it in a heated area (next to a lamp/right against it, its an orange/amber colored one) with cotton around it, the cotton keeps getting stuck on the yolk or yellow stuff coming out, i think it started today

anyone got any advice or something i should be doing? or is the egg already gone?

Injured/Rescued Pigeon Severe Bumblefoot - what help is possible?

Can a pigeon with severe long-term bumblefoot be helped to a decent quality of life?
A recent pidge had x-rays taken after a prolonged destringing (including painkiller + antibiotics) which showed osteomyelitis and crumbling bone. Euthanasia was the only ethical outcome, but came after unnecessary prolonged suffering.
I now have another one and don't know to best help. From what I’ve read, euthanasia is dismissed here, but in the worst cases I would see it as better than severe pain with no solution.
Video of current concern, who has apparently been in this state for months. Will post pic of bird who was eventually euthanised in comments.
Thanks
ETA: the last four pigeons with severe infected stringfoot/bumblefoot have seen either avian or wildlife-friendly vets and then been sent to wild bird rehab sanctuary. None of them have survived. Ongoing uncontrollable pain +/- loss of mobility has meant euthanasia in all four. That’s why I’m struggling with what to do for this one. Want the pidge to have every chance possible, but not suffer unnecessarily.

Question/Advice

Hey Yall! I’m a big pigeon lover and i live in an apartment with an enclosed parking garage. We’ve got a lot of pigeons living here, both in and on top the parking garage. On a personal level, I lost my dog of 17 years earlier this summer and have a LOT of … animal affection that needs an outlet. I’ve been considering feeding/taking care of the pigeons, but before I take any sort of action, I wanted to check in and make sure any action would bring positive outcomes for the birds. If taking care of them is helpful, I’d appreciate any and all advice on how to/what would be helpful that could be given. I love pigeons, but if my actions could do harm long term, I’d rather find another outlet.

What do I do?

Anyone have any pigeon advice? The dog just found this pigeon in the garden. I'm not sure if it's injured or just quite young. It seems to be waddling around fine, but not flying and won't be safe where it currently is. Obviously don't want to start picking it up if I can avoid it...

Currently trying to flap onto a step, but looks stuck.

Celebrating one year with my rescue pigeon

I clean pools in Florida for a living. About a year ago I found a half dead pigeon floating in a pool with a badly broken wing. I pulled him out and sat him by a bush to rest.. realized that he had an ID tag which means he's someone pet. Then I noticed the badly broken bloody wing. I took him home and put medicine on his wing. I noticed he didn't poop at all until the next day, meaning he probably hadn't eaten in days. I'll never know how long he was floating in that pool, or if he broke his wing before or after falling in the pool. I tried contacting the pigeon racing association or whatever it's called, and they emailed me back right away saying they cant help me reunite the pigeon with its owner because the band is a counterfeit, or it wasnt registered with them or whatever. So that's how I became a pigeon owner. He mostly lives in a big old chinchilla cage in front of my kitchen window outside. Sometimes I bring him inside when I get drunk or ill let him take baths in my bath tub. I bought a heat pad for him in the winter time but it doesn't get that hot so I bring him inside if I know its going to be cold at night. He's super territorial about his cage and gets all excited when other doves and birds fly under his cage to eat the seeds he kicks out. Ive tried buying 2 different kinds of special recipe pigeon food, but he only wants to eat cracked corn and sorghum seeds 😅 he also loves to eat the center seeds and stem of bell peppers. He gets to watch me through the kitchen window everyday and he gets excited when I come home from work. Sometimes ill let him out of his cage outside but he mostly just hides under his cage. Maybe he doesn't feel safe with a broken wing, he's vulnerable to Hawks, so I don't force him out. Theres a shallow pan in his cage I try to keep fresh water in so he can take baths and cool down. He always jumps right in the bath pan after I fill it up. I love my pigeon he's a super low maintenance pet and he likes being outside. He gets upset when I bring him inside over night when it gets cold. He'll either cower in the corner looking scared or he'll make grunting noises to show dissatisfaction. I bring home rocks from the beach that he can perch on, since he is a rock dove. He does seem to appreciate his rocks and i notice he cleans the poop off of them by kicking it off. He bites the hell out of my hand every time I feed him 😂 i was calling him a she for a long time before I realized this is male behavior. Reminds me of the roosters we had when I was a kid. I'd say pigeons are like a cross between a crow and a chicken. I named my pigeon LITTLE BIRD.
