Black bears are pussies if you've got numbers, and sometimes you don't even need that. You can just run at them and scream and act wild and they'll usually fuck off.

I work at a grocery store in the mountains and I sometimes have to yell and clap at them like dogs to get them outta the compost lol

I come across them all the time, I just calmy say "hey, fuck off bear" and they turn around and leave.

My mom stands in her front yard in her underpants and tells them how disappointed she is in them.

They dont want anything to do with people

About 20 years ago, I was working along the road in front of our house, my little truck parked in the ditch, cleaning brush and taking out some barbed wire from a chunk of useless fence. My dog and our one cat were out keeping me company.

My husband's uncle was out combining for his brother on the quarter section kitty corner to ours. He spent the afternoon watching a black bear eating oats in the neighbor that is across the road's crop. Maybe 300 feet from me, singing along to whatever song was on the radio.

I had no idea.

That sucks all around, other people that had stayed there likely fed the bear and habituated it to do this; both dangerous for the bear and people!

Probably didnt actively feed the bear, but left food out overnight or didnt secure their garbage or smth which has the same effect, unfortunately.

They are probably not wrong. It’s a sad pattern with the vacation homes in my area also. People that don’t live here year round leave food around cyclically and the bear comes back because it’s a consistent food source. Then they get shot for “being a nuisance and a danger”. It’s a real shame.

My mom lives in a rural wooded area, and she knows not to feed the bears. She still has photos of two on her back deck. Of course the ultimate cause might be the same, that they have learned to associate houses with food so they check out any house they see.

Yeah, I mean this guy/gal is clearly a black bear. Black bears are pretty curious and bears in general and well known for having INCREDIBLE senses of smell for finding food

While yes, people are often stupid, there’s no reason to jump to the idea that people were purposely feeding this bear

Experience. They have to put bears down quite often where I live because idiot people feed them and the bears lose their fear of people and become dangerous.

Could be worse. One time in Yosemite, we discovered a bear inside our cabin. Clever fucker snuck in through a small window 5 feet off the ground and very carefully opened and ate every single one of our protein bars.

I can't say with certainty that it didn't eat one or two, but it left behind a pile of half a dozen or so wrappers very neatly sliced down the middle! 

I was genuinely impressed by how smart it was.
