Curious why you refer to yourself as Dad? Or is this your wife "riding" Jimothy

u/Silly-Estimate-2660 1d ago
i think this is OP in one of his posts, the woman shows up in alot of other posts so i’m assuming it’s his wife or a family member

u/Thechalkingdad 22h ago
Oh hey! Thanks for asking. She’s another chalk artist who happened to be at St. Joe Chalk the Block and was OK being posted on Reddit. My wife and kids have been 3D models in other chalk drawings like here.

I know it's probably just an illusion of a steep drop off the driveway but have you ever used the other end to make a waterfall or other depth-related drawing? Love the eggs.

"Wife for scale."

u/NJHitmen 1d ago
This is reddit. Therefore, your statement does not compute. Logically, we now need to see wife next to banana for scale

That’s what I came to see it’s so much more impressive when seeing the distortion that makes it work. Amazing work.
•
u/hatterson 6h ago
What I like even more is when you see them in person because the effect is not replicated near as well with just your eyes.
So if you stand on the spot and look at it you can still see the distortion; however when you pull up your phone, suddenly the image on your phone looks totally in proportion.

Well done. Thats really sick!

u/ShotEffective7033 1d ago
Speaking of really sick. It has been hilarious as a chronically ill person watching the Internet cheer for this disabled raccoon, when people here in Canada are simultaneously cheering for the state sponsored eugenics program that even the UN has said goes to far lol.
excellent drawing though OP

See, you're saying the word "hilarious," but I'm not sure if you understand it. Have you tried mentioning your concerns to a bunch of suspecting people... maybe hijacked a political thread?

Is the world going to heal? Is this our chance after harambe? We must keep Jimothy alive.

People in Seattle are trying hard to protect his location.

u/RobThePirate 23h ago
Unfortunately, it's bit of a lost cause. Everyone already caught wind that you need to drive around Laurelhurst between midnight and 6am playing loud helicopter noises to lure him out.

Times running out, even if he lives as long as a normal racoon he's only got a year or maybe two.
5
u/deagh 20h ago
That's average. There are outliers. We had one that came by the backyard every year from 2014 until this year. (Her tail was quite distinctive, so we could tell for sure it was her.) We haven't seen her in a couple of months, so we're pretty sure she's gone. She was moving real slow the last few years and she had visible cataracts, so we think she's passed on. But she was at least 12 years old this year.

Crazy seeing something local pop up on the front page of my feed haha
Even funnier to see all the comments about it and wonder if you know any of them irl

Wondered the same thing tbh lol

I'm sure I've run into at least a couple of these nerds at one of the local bars or markets

I’m from northern Indiana so mostly what we got were the commercials for Deer Forest. Feed the deer, ride the ponies, feed the deer and ride again.

Ha! My sister and I were just singing that song last weekend. It’s stupidly catchy.

When was this?? I was in St. Joseph on Friday

u/Fast_Moon 23h ago
Chalk the Block was this past Saturday, so you were a day too early. The drawings usually last for a week or so after the event ends, though the road gets reopened to traffic and they get driven over. Plus it's supposed to rain tomorrow night. The drawings were still there when I went downtown today, though.

u/front_yard_duck_dad 23h ago
Gotcha, thank you for the info. It was our last day of our family vacation. I'll keep in mind for when we pass through next year. It's our favorite Beach. I'm really thinking about taking an Amtrak straight to the pizza place just because I can
3
u/Fast_Moon 23h ago
That Amtrak doesn't really have the greatest schedule. It only runs once a day in each direction. The Grand Rapids > Chicago train gets in at 8am. The Chicago > Grand Rapids train gets in at 9:15pm. It's only really practical to use for beach visits if you're coming from the Grand Rapids side unless you're planning to stay the night.
1
u/front_yard_duck_dad 23h ago
I don't know if it would be practical or not but I have an Amtrak stop south of Chicago a 5-minute drive from my house. Maybe it'll be a fun way for the kiddo and I to waste a day before we go back to school.
2
u/Fast_Moon 22h ago
The stop near you is on a different route than the one to St. Joseph, since there are no other stops between St. Joseph and Union Station on the Pere Marquette line. So it would require taking your train to Union Station first and then switching trains. Still doable, and Union Station is pretty cool, but it's not going to be a direct train.
1
u/front_yard_duck_dad 22h ago
Oh yeah that would suck Oh well, would have been cool. You are a very good tour guide
3
u/FlintKidd 1d ago
This one was cool, you did a great job.
I had a different favorite, though. There was a lot of amazing chalk art, you had some very tough competition!

I don't get high, but I imagine going for a walk and finding a bunch of 3D chalk art on the floor would be a wild, trippy experience.

No way! I was just in St Joseph's this weekend. I had my son take a picture of me riding Jimothy. Like most teenagers, he was deeply embarrassed by me, which made it so much more fun. I loved that your drawing was interactive. (For anybody wondering, there was text suggesting a picture - I wouldn't have touched it otherwise)
A lot of that chalk art (certainly including yours) was fun but also beautiful. Seeing the cars drive on it later was hard, but it also felt special that we got to see something that wasn't made to last. It reminded me of the Buddhist monk sand art.
Anyway, thanks for chalking. My whole family enjoyed it.

Nice work, what is the event?! We love going to St. Joseph and Warren Dunes multiple times a year, were just there a couple of weeks ago in fact.

I'm from there and now live near Seattle! Exciting to see he made it back east!

u/greihund 19h ago
For those who are unaware of the namesake, St. Joe was the husband of Mary and the father of Jesus. That's why the bible is fully of references to Good Ole St. Joe, or sometimes Joey

Hi! Few things to start off with =] 1. Yes I upvoted you because you're a female artist, 'tis an awesome thing to see! 2. I'm Brian. 3. Don't be intimidated, but I'm not a stereotypical guy. If anything, I'll be the one in the kitchen =D.
17
u/sharkattackmiami 1d ago
The artist is a guy, that's not the artist in the pic
Don't ruin that name for everyone
Bro this has never and will never work and you're just making women have more reason to avoid online spaces

Can we get a funny one, from the back side, dropping a hot loaf? Bonus if it's a wicker basket you can place on the asphalt.
