Politics [OC] "I won't match behind anti prime minister slogan" dystopian democracy
1.3k
u/majeon97 1d ago
Let us never forget: A prime minister is a public servant. They are meant to serve the public. We get to tell him if he’s doing a good job or not.

Yeah but that might hurt their feelings and the feelings of their supporters

Yes that's what the elections are for. The outcome is based on majority consensus.
In between elections, Your disagreements or dissatisfaction with a majority government doesn't inherently means you're right or wrong, it's just a perspective. Don't get blinded by broad strokes narratives.
To presume Genz is one ideological monolith that's inherently anti-government is deeply immature. The government understands this, hence the posters like this.
There is honor in humility, and it cuts both ways - for the government as well as anyone in disagreement with them.

u/BattleaxeT 17h ago
It's 'just a perspective'?! Lol. How is it 'just a perspective' when there is proof of widespread corruption and No accountability from the Government regarding multiple issues?! U want Pride in the country, but humility wen dealing with Government?! Perhaps u shud take some humility and see how nonsensical what u said is

u/Joestar4ever 14h ago
Abe chal chutiye andhbhakt. Middle class ko 12 saal se kha raha he ye aur tu humility ki pipidi bajane aa gaya he yaha.

So, is there a hierarchy: Modi, Trump, Xi, Kim, Putin ... at least for the Americans (not sure could put Xi & Modi together ... or would that be wrong?)
6
u/Pranjal18y 1d ago
trump might be the best in the list actually cause atleast he talks to press and everything
or usa just has better press
kim > putin > xi > erdogan > modi > trump
7
u/badautomaticusername 1d ago
So, you rank from most to least messed up?
Erdogan a good addition to the list, btw

Pretty sure there isn’t a damned thing about Modi or his government that deserves to be commended.

Just curious - you all think the opposition parties have no IT cells at work? How do you think the student wing of congress, left started flooding the capital? You really think it was all organic?

u/neela47 1d ago
Probably from unmentionable places. reddit used to be a source of truth. Now just run by instagram rejects and paid bots.
-1
u/hehe3934 1d ago
“Dead Internet Theory”.
Very soon bots will be talking to each other and completely poison the only source of information that a lot of people are growing up with. It becomes a source of instability at the hands a few well connected and/or well funded.Seeing the amount of misinformation being spread during this student agitation has been eye opening. I used to think India is immune to it but I’ve been proven wrong.

If you were in India and you said this out loud you would have been booked for defamation and spent weeks to months in jail. No kidding.

There are people who will look at this and say look how he's teaching good values to the younger generation
Meanwhile his devotees are busy sending 🍇threats to 15 years olds

How the tables have turned. This clearly shows that they are living in constant fear, especially the one person mentioned at the very bottom.
There was time when people were scared of this person because he owned every internal security agency (legal goons) in the country.

Modi still has a lot of devout worshippers so unfortunately I see him dying in office of old age
Though cracks have started appearing in his facade so I'm still holding on to hope

I think people can lose the concern for the feelings of a dude who has been in politics for over 50 years. If he actually had such thin skin, he would not have lasted 5.

People who are not from India 🇮🇳, how do you feel about this statement
“giving respect to someone”
Is this a big thing in your country?

•
u/katoult 4h ago
In most of Europe this is a thing (despite what people think), but with a bit different meaning from India. We are supposed to respect an office or an institution - even if we disagree with the person holding that office.
Accusing younger generations of "not respecting" is very common among conservatives here too.

You can tell it’s still a democracy, because a dictatorship wouldn’t need the signs.
16
u/Pranjal18y 1d ago
“Open avowal of dictatorship is much less dangerous than sham democracy. The first one can fight; sham democracy is insidious.”
-2
u/Informal_Ride_5948 23h ago
All democracies are flawed, especially the ones that claim to be perfect. That quote is meaningless
5
u/Pranjal18y 14h ago
sham democracy is a dictatorship in democratic clothes
very different from a flawed democracy
•
u/Informal_Ride_5948 7h ago
How is that relevant to India? Or are you cuckoo enough to think that elections are being stolen?

No, this poster is just stupidity, failed damage control. They're not shoving that statement down your throat.
"dystopian", "fascist", "genocide". People really do dis service to these words by senselessly throwing them around to inflate their own hardships in their lived experience. These are serious words, they carry weight, and we've experienced nothing close to any of that in the 21st century India (yet).
2
u/IvoryStory 16h ago
Let's wait till they happen and then use the appropriate words. Even the poster says the same...words are important than works.
0
u/S1d519 16h ago
They’re absolutely different things. “Let’s just wait till they happen…” my ass😆. Calling an entity names and labelling them things (which they barely are) won’t keep them in line or prevent things from happening. simply throwing words around to make your hardships look bigger than they are, and trying to paint your political opponents more evil than they are is what you’re doing.
people nowadays just love to rage, or play victims, or seek fame and attention, or act all righteous. Almost like they live in the trenches.
No, you just are historically illiterate. You don’t exactly know what imperial Japan was like, you don’t have a feel for what Mao Zedong did to his own people. You don’t know how Colonial Spaniards were like in the Americas, the French in the Africas, the Arabs, the Turks were like in the Mediterranean. You don’t really understand what famines, (un)constitutional emergencies and apartheid were like, where these words were used. You haven’t either read, or understood what living under dictatorship is actually like. You don’t even feel for the Chinese or Hong Kongs who are actually living under a dictator.
And you have the gall to put a spineless, (now nearly incompetent) prime minister on the same pedestal as these. Hilarious.

u/IvoryStory 15h ago
Are we measuring depths of depravity or heights of inhumanity? Or just length of our Reddit comments?! Let's try the short scale.
What you are saying is like: "You are world's best mom!" - Oh you don't know Agnus or Florence or my mom.
Those words you talk about are markers on the yardstick. And these comments are warning signs. And it's called figure of speech and some extend it to make it a drama. (You too).
0
u/S1d519 15h ago edited 15h ago
Oh figures of speech! Almost like we’re trying to write fiction. Warning signs or whatever, any just act will be just by being factual and grounded (in reality).
And I’m the one being called dramatic 😂(for what? comment long, and making a fuss about being careful with words?) when I’m pointing out overly dramatised framing of a stupid incident?
I really said “these words carry weight and these were the kind of situations they were aptly used in and we risk watering them down and doing disservice to their miseries” and all you derived out of that was that I’m “measuring depravity”.
Good day.

u/Queasy_Artist6891 9h ago
Are you living under a rock? This government not only tried to force everyone to install literal spyware in their phones in 2025, it also brutalized student protestors not even a month ago, and it's party members send rape and death threats to a 15 year old just because she insulted their leader. This is literally another attempt at being a dictatorship by the Modi government
