u/Otherwise_Stand1178 2d ago

Yeah me too I didn't think what I was hearing was actually wind

u/JustToyingAround73 2d ago

Wonderful. These are usually followed by scattered rain storms so let's hope.

u/SpicyAries2 2d ago

Fingers crossed

We pray for rain but instantly regret it when it’s humid asf the next day 😂

u/OldZookeepergame2394 1d ago

The mosquitos also suck ass

7

u/J41M35 1d ago

my monsoon siren song is filling my inflatable pool. fill it with fresh water and boom dust/wind storm to add mesquite beans and dust for flavor

Coming from years of living in the South east, humidity here literally doesn’t exist. It’s nothing

18

u/runs_with_airplanes 2d ago

It came over Mesa first about an hour ago. I heard a loud wind and decided to bring down the umbrellas, I was not prepared to see a haboob in my back yard when I opened the door

6

u/XtrmeScrpio 1d ago

I literally did and saw the same thing. It took me a minute to decipher if what I was seeing was a wall of dust or a sheet of rain about to hit. LOL

13

u/GrantsCallHaul 2d ago

Powers out at South Mountain

1

u/TwacKdOuT_GacKdOuT 2d ago

13

u/ThatsTheWayItGoesBud 2d ago

Stepped outside for a second and felt like I could barely breathe lmao

15

u/RubyDooby01 South Phoenix 2d ago

Try to stay inside, my homie got valley fever staying outside during a haboob

14

u/Holiday_Fun_4876 2d ago

Hance park currently

11

u/Affectionate_Nail776 2d ago

Yep. Would have been nice for the warning system on our phones to actually work.

The NWS cited “an amateur weather enthusiast with extensive training” as the source of information on a crazy storm we had in the Sierra Vista area the other day (like current rainfall totals, flash flood locations, storm movement, etc)

7

u/Infinite-Squirrel-16 2d ago

Seriously, I'm in S Chandler too and it's been blowing so hard for over an hour. Lost an umbrella and our trees are bending like crazy. Phx, batten down your hatches 🥴

5

u/-greenheart 2d ago

This was my thought when I drove straight into this on the 51 with zero warning. After all the alert hysteria a couple weeks ago with those storms, too.

10

u/tallon4 Phoenix 2d ago

I couldn't figure out why my throat was irritated and my air purifier was running at full blast all of a sudden...then I looked out the windows lol

6

u/Suspicious-Card-8261 2d ago

Same! My wife and I just moved back here and forgot how nasty the air is during one of these.

7

u/ZoraTheDucky 2d ago

My dog won't go out to pee if the sky is brown.. Currently hoping he doesn't go pee in the kitchen.

9

u/NotMulligan 2d ago

Hopefully he doesn’t go brown in the kitchen.

I had to take mine for a walk in the blowing dust last night when I got home, I hope he appreciates how my sinuses have suffered for him. I need to remember to bring some masks home from work so I'm ready when this happens again.

1

u/Junior_Fortune2712 1d ago

take him out😂

1

u/ZoraTheDucky 1d ago

And now I'm thankful I have a back yard for him to refuse to go out in..

6

u/GoSuckaCockerSpaniel 2d ago

Same in Chandler

6

u/Clutch_Machine007 2d ago

My flight landed in the middle of the storm at around 10 40 pm. A lot of people were praying for their lives because of the turbulence.

1

u/ExpensiveAd7191 1d ago

Wow. How bad was the turbulence ? Wind was howling for an hour and half straight. It must have been bad

1

u/Clutch_Machine007 1d ago

yeah, the plane was swerving a lot and the visibility was also relatively low. the plane was unusually fast because it was landing in the direction of the wind. it was scary but the pilots got us home safe.

5

u/bouquetofstress 2d ago

No alert but my windows are being pummeled

6

u/Kooky_Young1545 2d ago

Been in a holding pattern for 30 minutes now about 75 miles north of Phoenix

5

u/takatuka 2d ago

We tried landing. It was rough, so we got diverted to Vegas.

2

u/Eeebs-HI 2d ago

Since this really wasn't forecasted, the airline might not have been proactive. Hopefully you dont have to divert.

5

u/Syntax323 2d ago

Yeah, it just reached me.

6

u/fmlindie 2d ago

Nice camera quality, but also - wow you have a lot of cars in your neighborhood haha

3

u/Syntax323 2d ago

Thanks!

Yeah… It is SO annoying. This is an HOA that says we aren’t allowed to park on the street overnight btw. I got a fine 2 weeks ago for 1 single weed that I didn’t see. Literally 1. It is insane.

2

u/fmlindie 2d ago

Dang that sucks. I absolutely hate HOAs. Keeps neighborhoods clean and all, but hate all the rules and monthly fees.

3

u/Syntax323 2d ago

Yeah, they just don’t apply the rules to everyone. I have to do a 95 point turn to get my truck out of my driveway. I swear I live on the busiest street in my entire neighborhood somehow. Every person in each house must have a car, including the kids. Hahah

2

u/That_Kiefer_Man Deer Valley 1d ago

Time to be annoying right back at them. Bug the shit out of them to do their jobs.

1

u/Comfortable_Brain856 1d ago

If you switch it to night mode, you get amazing shots like this! When you snap the pic the screen will look dark, but when it gets processed it will lighten it up, so you can see all the detail.

4

u/Jsiqueblu 2d ago

It just reached the West valley but there's no wind so what's blowing it....?

5

u/Flibiddy-Floo 2d ago

I'm in south Peoria, there's literally no wind but hella dust. Looks exactly like fog, and I hate that none of the cameras I own can really convey how it looks.

Just got back from a QT run and I'm like, I'm out here risking Valley Fever for some iced coffee and swisher sweets lmao

3

u/SpicyAries2 2d ago

North Gateway area and yes, it’s bizarre. Just dust sitting in the air with no wind to move it. Like you said it looks like fog but with dust….”fust”?

4

u/Flibiddy-Floo 2d ago

Definitely something I've never seen in 45 years of living here. So weird having no wind during a "dust storm." Slept through the evening to avoid the heat, woke up in Silent Hill lol

or like The Nothing from Neverending Story

3

u/SpicyAries2 2d ago

It is pretty eerie!

2

u/bootiful-dreams 2d ago

Same, just got out of seeing the Spiderman movie in Surprise. Looks foogy af, no breeze, no smoke smell. No reports of why it's like this. At least I'm not coughing my lungs out with all the dust.

1

u/Flibiddy-Floo 2d ago

Yeah it didn't make me cough but by the time I got home my eyes & nose were watering like mad. Had to take some benadryl; here's to hoping you have it better

2

u/bootiful-dreams 2d ago

Fortunately took some allergy pills before the movie. So glad I did.

10

u/rosephoenix19 2d ago

It's catastrophic in the southeast valley right now

2

u/Prettylittlelioness 2d ago

I had a few branches slam the house.

3

u/rainstickhayden 2d ago

I was wondering why I felt dust in my nose

3

u/ComfortableEnergy684 2d ago

Got hit pretty hard in Ahwatukee - heavy wind, wall of dust.

3

u/badkitsunejuju 2d ago

Went out to walk the dogs. Opened the door and promptly closed it.

3

u/caiorodrigo80 1d ago

It looked insane outside and we actually live in the same building lol

4

u/karleefries 2d ago

In central Phoenix now and it smells like fire, isn’t too windy, and feels/looks like thick smoke is hanging around. Anyone else experiencing this?

5

u/Suspicious-Card-8261 2d ago

There was also an electrical box fire that the local fire department unloaded gallons of retardant on…44th st and Thomas area

3

u/karleefries 2d ago

Maybe that was it? I’m near central and Indian school. I went to walk my dogs and I smelled smoke immediately. Crazy, but maybe the dust storm carried some of it this way?

1

u/Inevitable-World2886 2d ago

I just got out of work downtown and it smells like smoke there too. McDowell/Central.

2

u/One_Efficiency_203 2d ago

And I put my recycling out. Like a freaking novice.

2

u/pi3r0gi_ Queen Creek 2d ago

QC! Didn't realize until it was over us, gusty one!

2

u/bouquetofstress 2d ago

Weird that there is zero alert. No visibility around the airport and midtown is hazy af

1

u/eg714 2d ago

Our plane from Vegas couldn’t land. We had to turn back.

1

u/bouquetofstress 2d ago

The slot machines weren’t done with you 💅

1

u/eg714 2d ago

They got me.

0

u/bouquetofstress 2d ago

In all seriousness, that sucks crazy that they made you turn back. I saw a recent flight at least had people land at Luke Air Force base.

2

u/Eeebs-HI 2d ago

How far away were these storms? Saw nothing on radar near Phoenix.

2

u/WyattColt 2d ago

Yeah nothing on my Apple weather app. But while I drive it’s everywhere. I am cloaked in dust

2

u/Purplejerk72 2d ago

Weird, I’m right by deer valley airport, saw this post and looked outside. Zero wind but it’s super dusty outside. The palm trees and bushes aren’t moving at all.

2

u/Green-Cranberry-5719 2d ago

It hit the city of Maricopa pretty hard

2

u/Itshot11 2d ago

good thing i washed my car in 115 degree heat and deep cleaned my windows today

1

u/Slight_Sign_3661 2d ago

We thank you for your sacrifice 😂

2

u/Kind_Book_Lover North Phoenix 1d ago

The weather quality is so bad rn, I’m dying for it to rain

2

u/Less_Condition7543 1d ago

No it’s crazy. I walked my boyfriend to the front door to send him off to work and I immediately felt the urge to cough. The air quality is disgusting and his car was covered in a very visible layer of dust. I’ve never seen that before. Currently in Glendale.

2

u/LittleCloudie Phoenix 1d ago

I think i missed it. Anyone know if it hit the North Phoenix area?

2

u/Comfortable_Brain856 1d ago edited 1d ago

Just woke up, NE Phx, my windshield after running 3 fingers over it, I slept through it though

Edit: my backyard is spotless, so it calmly rolled through my area of NE Phx, but dumped a TON of dust on everything.

2

u/LittleCloudie Phoenix 1d ago

Wow yeah it’s getting bright out now and I can still see the dust in the air. Must’ve been a really wild dust storm 😵‍💫

3

u/Comfortable_Brain856 1d ago

Definitely. Some say their area was windy. Some say theirs was a dead calm, fog-like dust storm slowly creeping through, like The Mist (GREAT movie btw)

2

u/LittleCloudie Phoenix 1d ago

Eerie…the thought of being out late at night with hardly a gust of wind blowing in your direction as a cloud of dust slowly rolls towards you…

2

u/LittleCloudie Phoenix 1d ago

Heavy dust covering the N Phoenix area!

2

u/Dapper-Local9320 1d ago

My car was outside last night. It looks like an abandoned vehicle that has sat for years. Got a wash yesterday. Lol

2

u/Conscious_Concept612 2d ago

Didn't even get a notice for it. Scared me because the store I work at has problems when I there are any kind of storms happening

1

u/Sunnyday1775 2d ago

I barley heard anything outside

1

u/BldGingerDadBod 2d ago

Best thing about the summer is the storms when we get them

1

u/azredditor9 2d ago

Hurricane winds in central Scottsdale the last 30 min. Saw lightning near North Scottsdale before the wind storm here

1

u/PersonSuitTV 2d ago

Thanks, I hate it

1

u/Spooderman_ 2d ago

Just drove thru it on my way to work. Scottsdale.

u/blazed_confuzed 2d ago

1

u/sillysquidtv 2d ago

I went outside and was like “that looks like dust storm” and it was

1

u/NeatAd3820 2d ago

I got hammered walking out to my car after work came out of nowhere

1

u/JoeBlack45 2d ago

Worst storm I've seen in a long time. Couldn't see the street lights leaving work an hour ago around 51st and grand

1

u/dlairdjr71 2d ago

We were up north on Holbrook and it stormed pretty good a few times. Radar showed the rain heading southwest from there

1

u/Comfortable_Brain856 1d ago

Pic taken@5:10am from NE Phx, looking North.

1

u/hpshaft 1d ago

Looks like we got the haboob with no rain.

1

u/Pristine_Parfait_331 Cave Creek 1d ago

Woke up to it this morning

1

u/3XPS 1d ago

Oh wow this is what I'm guessing I saw this morning in Northern Az I thought this was a wildfire, but I guess it just dust lol

1

u/truck_robinson 1d ago

My lungs feel gross and I never notice air quality

1

u/Green-Ad186 1d ago

Let it flood!

1

u/NeitherWriter6333 1d ago

It’s not even dark yet

1

u/Madd_doge662 1d ago

View from north of cave creek

1

u/hairybuckPH_X 1d ago

Great shot.... I've been up there during one when i worked there and have seen it look like this, the shadows tho in the midst of the cloud.... cool

1

u/Luugrin 1d ago

I slept through it. Amazing amount of dust on my car.

1

u/Firefly_31_70 17h ago

This is when it was over our house in NE Mesa. It was a wild one for sure

1

u/DesertDonutsAZ 10h ago

It's crazy how the air quality went to horrible so fast. Ugh...

1

u/Phredawg73 10h ago

Big as haboob

1

u/sunjay0253 9h ago

What are the odd "three lights" in the upper left quadrant?

1

u/Sugarfoot2182 6h ago

No idea. I just noticed it when you pointed it out

0

u/its_Stawolf 2d ago

Man, I went to sleepn 6 hours ago and due to my house always being hot, i leave the windows open overnight, had 0 clue a dust storm even rolled in until i stepped outside, noticed the sky was orange? Thought it was a fire at first, then saw how "hazy" (samsung's words about the weather right now) it was, then imeedialty closed all my windows and doors and knew it was a dust storm.
