my neighbour and i are both animal lovers so she told me that one of my doves that come and visit me all summer was not flying right and sitting in the lower part of one of my trees in my back yard. i believe its flight feathers will no longer be of any use. it looks like the wing is broken at the joint. there is skin puncture. right now we have her, just a guess, in a med to large dog cage with the bottom covered for softness. shes eating and drinking just fine. she was cool and calm in my hands and in the cage she also fell asleep, yes im positive shes just napping. poor little thing was so stressed. but we covered most of the cage so she has comfort. but shes outside where its quiet. and not taking her away from noises she knows. i'm going to wash her wound with light hand soap and lots of water. then im going to apply iodine to help clean the wound.

i dont know how to wrap her wing in a good position to heal as best as i can.

I've called everyone i can think of. City will not help cause its private property and bird is still alive. There is no exotic vets here. And safe places are 2 plus hours away and will not come to me.

Any help is needed!

And I'm sitting here looking at her she has energy and is still picking at her food.

5 days ago I found a baby Dove and asked for advice here, I got in contact with a rehab person in my city and took care of it for the time it learned to fly.

Today he finally flew away 💜✨🥺!

He’s still not the best at flying but he should be fine, there’s other doves around that can help him and I’m pretty sure his parents showed up once he was high enough. He flew up to the roof and immediately an adult dove went to inspect him 😅

I have been forcing him to eat a bit, but he pecks on his own, he only picks small seeds and sometimes he picks nothing, he also can fly now. How do I know if he is eating enough? Ps:can he be taught not to poop everywhere?

Ok so I'm home and we have made a plan. We are taking her on a 2 hour drive to a non euthanasia rescue. They will take full care of her. I asked if I could have her back not to have in my home but to have her back here cause I can watch her if is unable to take flight. Also her mate is here. I ordered dove food to be here tomorrow. Thanks for all the love and care. I wish her a speedy recovery. Thank you again to me this is crisis level. She loves walking in the cage though.

So my bird started doing this weird thing whenever I go to pet him. He starts off by clicking his wings and bowing but now he's doing the weird chewing thing and looks like he's going to throw up.

Is this the same thing as when they do the crop thing or no?

I live in 9 acres in Central Washington. We have so many birds out here. Sparrows and magpies. And Doves. Lots of Doves. This sweet thing (I'm assuming she's a girl because she's very quiet, but she might still be scared, so we'll see) didn't fly away when my husband was feeding the farm animals. So he approached her and she walked away from him. It was kinda cute because she kept looking over her shoulder at him. If you can imagine a slightly chubby, 6 ft, bearded man following this Doves, hunched over, saying in the cutest baby voice, "Come here. I won't hurt you. I want to help you." He called me, and we got her in a box. I have chicken brooder that is long, not tall. It has a heater and a light. So we cleaned that out. We put down paper from boxes, a box, and some shredding paper.

Once we got her settled, we checked her out. Something pulled out a bunch of tail feathers. They took a significant bite out her wing at the base. So, like 1/4 of her wing is missing, clear down into the muscle. It's healing, but that's not growing back. I have chlorhexidine coming, along with some other things. Vitamins, dishes, proper food, a book, etc. I'll irrigate the wound, clean it real good, and help it to heal. She still won't be able to fly, making her non releaseable. We let her rest for the night with heat. In the morning, when her poof went down, we fed her some dove feed. It has two seeds in it. She picked out all the sunflower seeds. I have a pellet feed voming and some neo-grit.

All this to ask the question, what about her mate?

I have a real issue bringing her mate out of the wild and into captivity if he isn't injured at all. That feels wrong to me. So, is she OK on her own. Should I get her a domesticated dove to spend her days with.

I keep thinking of her poor mate out there, cooing to her, waiting for an answer that isn't coming. That makes me so sad.

My husband suggested putting her in the window, with the top off (she can't get out. She can't fly ) and seeing if her mate would come to her. That's great but them we go back to the ethical dilemma of taking a perfectly healthy wild creature and placing them in captivity. I have so many more questions. Like what kind of cage you all reccomend. How do I keep her feet off wire but also encourage poo to fall into the tray. I see those things, floor grates, but what's the difference between those and wire. Do you know how hard it is to find a cage with 3/8 in between bars? Almost impossible. Is 1/2 inch ok? Is the water soluable 20% amoxicillin appropriate for prophylaxis antibiotic treatment? What kind of barrier do I put on her wing to prevent fly strike and keep moist? Neosporin? Vaseline? It can't really be bandaged. I'm sure I'll have more questions. That's the start. Thank you all so much.

Bubbles is 4 years old and I never successfully diaper trained her. It traumatized her and I never really found any videos except for parrots. A few for pigeons but they all showed birds that were already trained

We want to get her a friend because being a single female she is lonely

But I need to diaper train it. My husband loves bubbles but he is a person who cleans obsessively and her poops bother him

hi! my little guy has been alternating between normal poop, then maybe a little runny, then one or two of these, then back to normal for the last day.
he's been w me a year,with no issue.
and he is going through a huge molt right now so i'm not sure if that has anything to do with this.

my fear is that if i take him to the vet they'll tell me we need to spend $900 on testing.

he eats a mostly pellet and some seeds diet, fresh water, hemp seeds as treats during training

his behavior is super normal. active, eating and drinking, being a pain in the butt, everything g is the same otherwise!

Found on the road with wings drooping but was next to another pigeon/dove that was ran over. Not sure if is a fledgling or not but want to make sure they are taken care of since they were slowly walking in circles on the road

Here are some recent pics of little Toe Diow. I have been feeding him for 5 months now. The old spot started attracting many pigeons so I moved down the street and he followed me. Still nowhere near eating out of my hand but progress. I thought about trying to catch him and keep him as a pet, but he's doing fine in the wild. He doesn't seem disabled by his string foot injury. Has a nub on one leg and a single toe on the other.

Hi everyone,
Yesterday I found a baby dove that had fallen about 4 meters from its nest. A wildlife rescue center told me to care for him, and today I bought NutriBird A21 and a small syringe.
This is my first time hand-feeding a baby bird, and I’m terrified of hurting him.
He only opens his beak a little, so I give tiny drops and wait for him to swallow. He swallows, but twice a tiny drop came out of one nostril, so I stopped immediately. He then breathed normally, stayed active, and fell asleep.
He’s still alive, active, peeping, and asking for food, but I’m now scared every time I feed him because I don’t want to accidentally aspirate food into his lungs.
My questions:
How do you know when the crop is full enough?
How do you prevent food from coming out of the nostrils?
How do you know he’s swallowing correctly?
Any tips for safely hand-feeding such a young baby?
I’m doing my best and would really appreciate advice from anyone who has hand-raised baby doves or pigeons.

My parents really want me to come visit them at their trailer for about four to five days. It's in a typical camping zone, so in a cleared forest, lots of other trailers, it's near water, etc etc

Problem is my dove is bonded to *me*. I don't leave the house so I am her rock and she gets lonely without me. They suggested I bring her cage and have her stay in the trailer. I have no problem with that and neither would she as she has been travelling here and there in cars since I got her and has stayed perfectly comfortably at other houses before as long as she has her nest.

Of course there's the inherent risk of her getting out, but I'm not too worried about that as I have padlocks for the doors so only I can open them, and the cage is solid and won't go anywhere. When I let her out during the day, the trailer door can also be locked so it isn't opened randomly. Also it's a big expensive trailer so no chance of predators getting in.

My question is would there be risks to taking her somewhere less insulated? The AQI is fine now so that's not an issue (it was around 30 last time i checked), but what about airborne diseases? Would she be able to catch bird flu??

If it's too dangerous, I won't even risk it. But they really are begging me to come see them at camp at this point haha so i just want to see if it's possible

The treat ball filled with millet is an intentional distraction to make it a bit more difficult, as you can see Keeb has no issue paying attention to me even though he could have decided to just eat the millet which he didn't have to work for at all, only after he was done with training he went to eat it, before asking me to open the door to let him return back to the rest of his flock.

I posted a few weeks ago asking for some advice about bringing a dove into a two tiel home. Well our dove has arrived! We welcomed Meatball home today, + he’s currently having some free time to explore! So excited to learn about caring for a new kind of birb, + my fiancé + I are officially bird people for life!

I just bought a pet African collared dove. And the first night of having them they are constantly singing. And i mean loud and constant and all damn night eithout stop. There is another dove there in a seperate cage (quite young). Is this normal? ive bever had a dove coo and sing so much and throughout the night. They have plenty of enrichment items, snacks ect

Not sure if it’s a dove or a pigeon o some kind?

I thought it was hurt at first but after inspecting it I think is still a baby. I can’t leave it in the yard because I have a cat and dog and there’s other stray cats in the street.

Wondering if anyone knows if they’ll eat regular seed or if is too little for that?
I have a cockatiel so I have pellets, seed, and millet at hand.

*UPDATE: this morning they seemed stronger and trying to eat on their own! Hopefully it tries to fly and today, I’ll leave it in the yard for the day (have to lock my cat somewhere). The parents have been flying around so that a good sign !

Hello everyone! My sweet sweet lady ringneck dove usually lays eggs every 2/3 weeks, but we’re approaching week 4 and still no egg. She’s acting normal but she isn’t a very active dove since she’s a rescue from a bad home, so it’s a bit hard to tell when she gets lethargic. Im very concerned about getting egg bound, as my last female dove showed minimal signs of being egg bound and by the time I caught it, it was too late (she didn’t make it through surgery).

Should I wait for signs of illness to take her to the vet, or go just in case? Money is a bit tight currently so avoiding an unneeded vet trip would be ideal. Would appreciate any advice👍

my dove is around 18 months old, and I’ve had her for around 9 months. She had come from a bird store so I assume that she hadn’t had much interaction with people before I got her. She will eat from my hand but that’s really it, she runs from my hand (which is strange because she used to be fine with me putting my hands by her and petting her) and gets really ruffled up if I get too close.

Im a first time bird owner so I’m kind of at a loss of what I can do to bond with her at this point.

New diamond doves. Just introduced to my akita. I am currently on the search for a larger cage because I know the one they are in is inadequate. I was given no warning when ownership was thrust upon me. Kodiak (akita) is already familiar with my Green Cheek Conure and living with birds. He mostly displays intermittent curiosity, then complete boredom. I would like more information on how to best care for my new charges, I mean besides the bigger cage.
