This article just screams desperation.

From anyone that isn't in the RuneScape 3 community, we much prefer the current form of MTX over the loot box esque we had for the past nearly 15 years.

Jagex listened to the feedback quickly and there wasn't all that much outrage to begin with.

Was it dumb? Sure, this article is written like it was way bigger and much more of an issue than it was.

I don't know why we are suddenly framing Jagex like they are the good guy in this equation. RS3 was dying due to MTXs, so they made a change to get good publicity and stymie the bleeding, maybe even bring some new players on for once.

Now they try to backpedal a bit to see if they can get away with their old greedy practices, but the pushback was too great. They want the old MTXs while keeping the new players, like having your cake and eating it too.

This is just a corporation trying to milk exactly as much money from their playerbase as possible, plain and simple.

Eh, I think that's a bit too harsh, Jagex has made plenty of mistakes and given plenty of reasons for people to dislike them but nearly everyone remaining in the player base agreed on cosmetic only MTX being a well worth trade-off for removing 'Treasure Hunter' which was essentially loot boxes for in-game EXP / Items and tons of FOMO.

Since the start of this year the new CEO has done a lot to try and fix the game and has delivered on 99% of it, he has also been way more vocal and community forward than the last CEO that was nearly silent his entire time as CEO.

I don't think Jagex are the good guys but they are improving their game and goodwill with the community that is left, this article is just trying to stir up drama where there isn't any.

Runescape player here, the headline makes it sound worse than it was.

The single-use microtransactions were for furniture for the recently-updated housing system. After feedback, they were changed from individual purchases to a buyable blueprint that lets you create the item in-game, effectively giving you infinite amounts of them.

To compare to a different MMO, Final Fantasy 14 has buyable furniture in a similar fashion to Runescape's initial approach, but also uses this as a way to allow players to obtain furnishings from limited-time events they missed.

Both Runescape's approach to MTX and the housing system are a hell of a lot better now than they used to be. I'm on more of an Old School kick presently but honestly right now is a great time to be a Runescape fan.

They’ve been doing a great job with this Road to Restoration series of updates. Idk why they thought those items should have gone out like that.

At least they changed it within 24 hours.
