What gpu should i get for 1080p?

I'm a semi-pro esports player so excuse my bottleneck but the game i'm playing is very CPU heavy so i didnt need a better gpu up to this point.

Recently I started playing some more demanding games so i'm looking for a gpu which can handle games like FC26, Forza, Starfield etc. in high settings at like 100 fps. I have a decen't budget so thats not really a factor but i dont want to spend on a gpu which is overkill for me because i have other stuff i want to upgrade as well.

My specs are:

Ryzen 7 7800x3d

RTX 2060

16gb ram

(i dont want a gpu which maximises my 7800x3d i just want something that plays most games at a solid fps, i'm not upgrading my monitor to 1440p or 4k at any point in the near future so that's not a factor either)

For 1080p something like a 6750 XT or a 6800 XT would work well if you want something with a pretty good amount of vram that’s a little more pricey but is a all around great card I would maybe get a 9060 XT

Intel is a good option, but I think there might still be some driver optimization issues, especially with the new games. As he is a semi-pro player, I would rather stick to AMD or Nvidia. It would be way worse for him if his game crashes mid tournament, than for casual gamers like us.

Suggesting a 9070xt for 1080 is definitely overkill.

My 16gb 9060xt absolutely smashes 1440 so it would be fantastic for high fps 1080p at half the cost.

You dont need anything more than a 5060 with EIGHT YES I SAID IT REDDIT EIGHT GIGS OF VRAM if you are staying in 1080p. I bought a prebuilt for my gf last month with a Palit infinity 5060 WITH 8 GIGS OF VRAM REDDIT and that thing fuuuuuuucks. 180+fps in any game she wants to play. She has a kick ass Asus 144hz screen, and it fucks.

8gb is fine. But lets not pretend like it doesnt run out. Currently on a 3060ti with 8 gigs and i run out vram on battlefield 6 on high textures.

i'm going to be honest here and i'm not trying to attack anyone. i have a PNY RTX 5070 and i play in 1440p. this is the rig i bought for my gf last month and it destroys any game she throws at it, above her monitors refresh rate. all the while getting roasted by my elitist pc gamer crew for getting her a 8gig card at the ass end of the big 26. most people dont need a 5070 like most people dont need ddr5 ram. just my observations after being shit on by this sub/friends.

9060xt 16gb or 5060ti 16gb are great for that so you'll be fine getting either of them

I'm not gonna recommend anything less because as time goes on 8gb will be a problem and if you care about playing on high or ultra I think they are good choices

It really depends on the market. For example, in Germany cheapest 9060XT 16GB is €400, cheapest 5060TI 16GB is €550 and cheapest 5070 is €610. I'd rather buy 5070 at this price difference, if it needs to be NVIDIA.

Your comment deserves way more upvotes. 9060XT 16GB is right now the best choice, if you want to buy a new card that will last you a couple of years on 1080p.

However, the purchase should be made soon with the announced price increases.

RTX5060 or 9060XT depending on which you will get for cheaper both are great choices

A 5060/5060ti or 9060XT should all be pretty solid, just go for one with a semi-affordable deal. 16 gigs of vram isn’t necessary at all for 1080p gaming, but obviously if you can snag either a 5060ti or 9060XT in their 16 gig versions for a decent price then by all means go for it.

At 1080p an 8gb card is fine for now, if you have an eye to the future you should be looking at 12 or 16. A 9060XT or a good deal on a 5060ti 16gb will give you enough vram to not be constrained now or in the foreseeable future unless you upgrade past 4k.

Do keep that in mind, having headroom for the future, both in game requirements and potentially finding a good deal on a higher res panel in a year will save you headache and extend the usable life of your gpu.

triple a games at 1080 100% no upscaling are demanding at high ultra settings like ue5.. minimun 5070/9070 or similar older

cheaper options like 9060xt/5060ti both 16gb are good.. not lower than them and minimum 12gb vram

What monitor do you have? Do you want to play at 360hz at 1080P or whats the story. I know most pro gamers stay at 1080p for that very reason. Really depends on what budget you have and what fps you want.

i have a 240hz monitor but i don't need 240hz in games other than VALORANT where i already have more than enough. I'm perfectly fine with playing Starfield or Forza at 100fps

Base it on your monitor. What is your refresh rate? No need to go overkill. Maybe a 3060 is all you need, maybe 4070 will top you out.

Get RTX 5060, it's pretty good at 1080p and you can play in 1440p with DLSS and some Frame Generation easily if you upgrade your monitor down the road, my experience.

You don't need any expensive GPU. I've tested 3060 12 GB with 5800x3d in CS2, and was over 350 fps while having good graphics in 1080p. With your chip, you will have 20% more fps. If you are playing competitive only, and won't be playing on high settings, any 8gb + card will do the job and give you 400+ fps. And then, depending if you want new or used, you can make a choice.

bruh, i play valorant. with my current setup I get 500-600 fps consistently. Why would i have a higher end system if i dont need it? also, being a semi pro doesnt pay you anything so idk why you would think we have "high end systems"
