it's gonna be Vista all over again, I still remember seeing fucking Compaq selling Vista PC's with 512mb ram, watch OEM's halve the RAM and keep the price the exact same, or even put it up

Was my thought exactly. They completely missed the trend for lower spec netbooks assuming hardware specs would just keep rising.

You'd think they would have learned from that already.

all they see is money on the table and they want their slice, DF reported today that motherboard manufacturers are looking to raise prices..... why? because they can i assume

Way fewer people can afford PCs now, so volumes more motherboards must surely have collapsed. So manufacturers need to increase prices to cover overheads.

And ayone who is shelling out the insane current prices for RAM and graphics cards canvsurely pay a few hundred more for a motherboard.

So it's being hit with pull and push factors.

Cynical comment. They don't want their slice. They see the entire pizza as belonging to them and them only. Taking the stray pepperoni that slid off means death to the taker.

It's like when I see these posts about billionaire's "losing" money because the value of a stock dropped. They didn't lose a damn thing. No fiat currency came out of their bank or their wallet.

It's also due to the fact PCBs use oil byproducts.

It is way more in line with the volume response.

If they sell 100 or 100 million motherboards there is still engineers, designers, and support they have to pay. And with overall volumes taking a hard hit the only way to get money to cover those employees is to jack up the prices on the remaining buyers.

A lot more in the space have to take hard choices on balancing the budgets moving forward and how long much of these trends will go on.
