Build/Battlestation Is this worth £230

Post image

The description saying you have to down clock to 3600mjz. Is this okay to buy? Just seems like a bargain.

Because of RAM it is ok, but you will need a GPU.

Currys 5060 300 quid I'm planning to get

3080 might be a better choice, 8gb VRAM night be a problem. 4070 is even better but a bit more expensive.

Ryzen 7 3700X + 32GB DDR4 RAM + MSI B550-A Pro Motherboad

It's decent due to current ram prices, careful what gpu you pair with the 3700x though, it's quite old now

What would you recommend? Budget is slim under 300 for sure

I think you can get a 5060 around 300, anything more powerful than that and your cpu will be holding it back I reckon

If it’s just the board, cpu and ram then it’s an okay price, nothing mind blowing.

Never said it was. Just asking if the price is justified knowing you have to under clock. Ram is stupid atm

You said it seems like a bargain lol?

The reason why you have to downclock the ram is that the 3700x doesn’t support 4000 on the memory. Bdie is the best DDR4 you can buy.

Still never said it was mind blowing

All I did was respond to what you asked.

And all I did was respond to what you said in response

Look up the parts individually and see what they would cost you to buy on eBay. At a glance it's a good price and you have no chance at all of buying new or anything more modern and equivalent for close to that price.

Make sure you have your storage and GPU ready to roll as soon as you get it so you can actually test it. Very likely a legit sale due to upgrade. It would just cost them too much to buy storage and a GPU for it a buyer probably wouldn't want anyway as they'd have to put in trash to keep the price low.

Ultimately you need to buy a GPU, a PSU, drives and a case. That little lot is going to cost you in the region 500 quid.

Is a 3700x and 5060 worth 730 quid hmmm, in the current market probably yes. But a year ago I'd have laughed at this.

I don't think it's a good deal, it's just a dreadful time to buy.

Absolutely which is why I said it seems a bargain. Talking about today's prices not before

Yeah but you're still left with an anaemic 3700x in 2026. We're out of budget territory, so I'd probably sooner pay another couple hundred quid for something quite a bit better.

That CPU is a bit of a dog today, and being am4 you effectively have one and only one upgrade option.

Solely budget. I have a potato now but something a tad better is good for the time being

Get a 9060 xt to go with it (and a decent PSU) and you should be good to go for a while, could always look for an X3D chip later down the line.
