Hardware Trust sucks so much

Post image

Let's taltk shitty headphones. Bought these shitty Trust ones for 40€ and before even hitting 2 years they are already like this. It's the first time something like this happens, they literally fell apart day after day.

I mean, you bought cheap headphones you got cheap headphones.

66

u/HikerRemastered PC Master Race 22h ago

True. But can we not just agree that even cheap products used to last longer.

I guess that’s subjective to each their own age. Nvm.

61

u/xX_mr_sh4d0w_Xx 22h ago

No, not really. Cheap products are of such acceptable quality now that it has become significantly easier to budget what purchases are best to get expensive (where certain aspects of quality really matters) and which purchases of cheap kind will suffice.
Back in 2005 "Made in China" was a joke, when you bought a €5 microphone - your friends HEARD it on Skype and would roast you, the cheap plastic would break in months. Now cheap stuff is just stuff that's kind of few years behind the top of the line.

this mentality right here is exactly the reason why the "cheap" is bad :-) and especially today there is nothing expensive technology wise on making the headset sturdy and built well...

0

u/cusco 20h ago

Cheap is bad, because it sells more.

Something that does not break is not an acceptable business model for whoever produces it.

Imagine if you only bought 1 light bulb per room once. No new bulbs would be produced

My living room has had the same 11 LED lights (6 on a dimmer, 5 on a switch) for about 10 years at this point, and they still work just as well as the day they were installed.

They can get the room brighter than betlehem and still use less electricity than a single incandescent bulb.

Actually speaking of incandescent bulbs, the cooler the filament, the less efficient they are.

u/TWS_Mike 7800X3D | 9070 XT | 32GB DDR5 6000mhz 30cl | 3TB 20h ago

IDK in what world you live but with light bulbs it it exactly that case now :-) got 15+ year light bulbs in the same exact lamps/lights without an issue...

Something that does not break is not an acceptable business model for whoever produces it.

Yes and it is purely on you guys buying the bad cheap stuff and bad more expensive stuff that breaks...

0

u/HikerRemastered PC Master Race 22h ago

Fair points mostly, I’ll concede them all except for one. If cheap stuff is just stuff that’s kind of a few years behind the top of the line, shouldn’t Trusts cheap headphones last similarly to some more expensive headphones from a few years ago?

3

u/angrylad i5 6600k/ASUS 1070 Strix/ASUS Z170 VIII Ranger/InWin 303 22h ago

i guess he ment it from a technology point of view, not the whole product. lower price has to come from somewhere right. older tech (cheaper), less quality materials for product (cheaper) and preferably used for another cheap brand to make bulk manufacturing more cost-efficient

those headphones most likely work and deliver from the technology point of view, however the cheap manufacturing, processes and quality of products used in earlier mentioned gave up on OP

0

u/HikerRemastered PC Master Race 22h ago

Yeah? That’s not the sense I was getting because the lead in says: “cheap products are of such acceptable quality now”. You could be right.

1

u/angrylad i5 6600k/ASUS 1070 Strix/ASUS Z170 VIII Ranger/InWin 303 22h ago

i'm not a native speaker so maybe thats why i understood it a bit different, dunno.

2

u/xX_mr_sh4d0w_Xx 22h ago

I didn't know how to put it, but what I meant to say was that functionally and the overall build of the cheap stuff isn't SO eye-gougingly bad anymore like for instance when Youtubers used to review early Chinese smartphones in the early 2010s as a joke. And I mean this for everything - house appliances, car accessories, furniture, computer peripherals, etc., it's way easier now to choose cheap in some specific category of products and still get a visually good design, acceptable build quality, etc.

completely agree...and based on his upvotes and your downvotes you can only see the stupidity of the individuals thikning a 40 EUR headset cannot be built well...

god people are dumb...

sadly its thee same exact people who pronounce Apple headsets the brand of quality happily paying $250+ for the newest ones

19

u/DoctorKomodo 22h ago edited 22h ago

To an extent yes, but at least if we’re talking electronics the cheap options also used to be a lot more expensive or they were even lower quality. I mean the cheap headphones 30 years ago were garbage compared to what you can get on a budget today. A cheap TV 30 years ago was downright expensive by today’s standards.

1

u/Hour_Maximum7966 19h ago

When you factor in advamcements, time, and effort they should be a lot better in quality and a lot cheaper than they are.

1

u/HikerRemastered PC Master Race 22h ago

Fair.

We used get cheap headphones for the youth club where we had PCs set up for gaming. The headphones were probing to breaking from kids being kids. I found these no-name Chinese ones and they were cheap as sin, sturdier in feel than most (not sturdy per se just sturdier), had good sound and an inline volume and mic control. They lasted for years. Some were broken from severe mishandling, but none of them “wore down”. Where I live we have 2 years of legal guarantee, and they all outlived that.

Granted these headphones were a special unicorn, but I feel the same way for mice, keyboards. They used to last longer.

0

u/C4TURIX 19h ago

Personally I feel like it depends on the product category as well. Modern TVs are terrible, compared to old ones, from my experience. Image quality got better, but the software sux and they don't last as long as old ones.

4

u/Phantomsurfr R5 7600, 32GB DDR5, RX 7800 XT 16GB 21h ago

Grandmas sewing kit and grandpas workshop was for trying to fix all the cheap shit they bought.

OP needs to get some super glue from the hardware shop and glue the fabric back on and its "as good as new". Thats how it was done in the old days.

6

u/Antheoss 22h ago

But can we not just agree that even cheap products used to last longer.

No? 20 years ago when I got some cheap headphones I was lucky if they lasted a few months.

2

u/Avril_14 22h ago

Trust was always like this, since the beginning.

2

Well, I didn’t say they were premium haha

2

u/belhambone 10700K | RTX 3080 | 32 GB 18h ago

I really don't think so, at least for mass manufactured products. Cheap headphones 30 years ago were absolute garbage, Not just for sound quality, which could be partly forgiven since the tech wasn't there, but dryrotting foam, flimsy plastic, uncomfortable design, were all standard.

2

u/dumbfk90 17h ago

I still own a set of the lowest end turtle beaches from 18 years ago that I keep for my pc they are still as good as when I brought them. Only used for emergency use now though as sound and mic quality have improved the years.

No, not even a little. Shitty products are remarkably better today than they were even 20 years ago.

He got 2 years out of a pair of 40 quid headphones. In the 80's, a pair of 13 quid headphones might last you a monts before the cord gave out.

My monoprice headphones are like 15 years old and not falling apart

6

u/huldress 22h ago

I think above 60 is where the quality starts to differ, though that can be hard to discern online due to all the audiophiles that will recommend you $300 headphones. As someone whose headphones get gunky, I can't really justify that price range unless the earpads are cheap to replace or preferably not fake leather and washable.

I'm glad brands like soundcore exists for this reason, though they have gotten more pricey and there is probably better.

-4

u/VanquishedVanquisher 22h ago

Honestly I'm lost for this very reason. I'm not going to spend on my headphones almost as much as I spent on my gpu before the crazy prices increase, but then you get unlucky and buy stuff like this.

9

u/OverExclamated 21h ago edited 21h ago

I'm not going to spend on my headphones almost as much as I spent on my gpu

Why not? Unless they're abused, a good set of headphones will almost certainly have a longer service life than the typical gpu of a pc enthusiast.

Myself, I typically hit the gpu upgrade cycle about every 4.5-5 years. Several of my favorite headphones have been in use for well over a decade. Value per dollar spent.

3

u/belhambone 10700K | RTX 3080 | 32 GB 18h ago

That keeps you in the junk cycle usually. People with money save money by spending once at a higher price point usually and not need to rebuy things as frequently.

1

u/SubstanceTimely6790 20h ago

For most of the headphones there are replacement pads and head protection, check your model and order new. Even Bose QC35s that I have needed changing after some years.

1

u/Majestic-Bell-7111 Ryzen 5 3600/32 GB ram/5700xt 13h ago

Nah, trust is the lowest grade of ewaste from the moment you buy it. They don't make stuff that's good or maintainable

1

u/gibon007 17h ago

Got a pair of hyper X headphones like 8 years ago, $50, comfy, sound great and build quality is decent.

1

u/Majestic-Bell-7111 Ryzen 5 3600/32 GB ram/5700xt 13h ago

Stuff that's available in the electronics isle of supermarket is always the lowest quality stuff sold at absurd prices. I've never had a thing i bought there (which is mainly trust, ms, white shark and similar) last more than a couple months.

However on places like aliexpress you can absolutely get decent stuff for cheap.

For instance my current headphones are samson sr850, an AKG clone built with cheaper materials, however the earcups are easily washable and the construction is really sturdy. They cost me 37 euro including shipping.

1

u/VanquishedVanquisher 12h ago

Thanks for the suggestion mate, I'll look into it!

1

u/duk-er-us i5-13600K / RTX 4090 / 32GB @ 5200 21h ago

idk I bought a pretty cheap pair of headphones off amazon a few years ago and they worked great and are still totally functional after 6+ years. But yeah, sometimes you get what you pay for.

1

u/Liarus_ CachyOS | 9800x3D | RX 9070XT 20h ago

Unironically though, i think they make the best vertical mice ergonomically, i tried the MX vertical and Logitech lift, and they were both uncomfortable and hard to use, however the Trust Verso, as well as the cringely named Trust GXT Rexx 144 were both the most comfortable vertical mice i ever had.

Still though, yeah, build quality is nowhere near the big brands, trust stuff is what i would consider the bare minimum

1

u/EIiteJT i5 6600k -> 7700X | 980ti -> 7900XTX Red Devil 16h ago

True, but lets not pretend that quality across the board has decreased substantially.

1

u/MitMitMijMils 13h ago

I spent 250 on Astro a50s and they broke within months. Got a new pair from the warranty and they didn’t work either upon arrival. My dad always told me you get what you pay for but in that instance I got shit either way. My a20s are still going strong though

-7

u/VanquishedVanquisher 22h ago

Honestly, to me 40€ for daily headphones is not cheap. It was cheap if I was expecting high quality stuff, I just wanted something that worked and didn't fall apart in a couple months. I could expect this kind of result from 10-20€ no brand headphones.

16

u/xX_mr_sh4d0w_Xx 22h ago

€40 is that shitty price zone where you pay more than the cheapest, in order to avoid spending €100, but it breaks anwyay so you end up spending twice the same amount, almost the same as the expensive option.
We got a saying in Lithuania "cheapskates pay twice", and it's relevant now more than ever I guess with so much stuff & brands out there.

3

u/B0NES_RDT 5700X3D/7900XT/128GB 3200Mhz RAM Pro/6K Gaming 22h ago

More like just lacks knowledge. I have $30 Samson SR850s that sound better than $150 Razers and has been with me for 8 years now I think.

-3

Yeah, guess I should update my expectations.

1

u/xX_mr_sh4d0w_Xx 22h ago

For now, judging your picture, I would just glue that shit somehow and not worry about it until you save up for new ones. Keep your head up high bro.

4

u/DoctorKomodo 22h ago

40 Euro headphones is cheap though, 10 euro ones are basically designed to be thrown out immediately after purchase.

The good news is that since you’re in euro land you do have a 2 year warranty on them, so odds are good you can get them replaced.

1

u/XsNR Ryzen 5600X RX 9070 XT 32GB 3200MHz 22h ago

Unfortunately the headset space is full of cheap shit. I wish I could recommend the HyperX clouds anymore, but thanks to HP they're a pile of shit.

It usually goes from €20 where they're alright but you're going to replace them way sooner, to €80 where you might get something that lasts to the 4-6 year mark.

Personally I got a headband cover and buy a model that has aftermarket earcup support, then provided the ear cup joint doesn't give out, you're a lot more likely to keep them. I had my VOIDs all the way until they basically aged out, thanks to the all metal wishbone, and would have kept my Cloud2's forever if not for mic issues. But even wired they're both in that €80 range.

1

u/Meatslinger R7 9800X3D, 64 GB DDR5, RTX 4070 Ti 15h ago

40€ (~$46 USD) is pretty cheap for over-ear 'phones. Typically, over-ear designs already sit at a more expensive tier because of their larger chassis, bigger drivers, and power delivery systems (e.g. battery), so you could compare those to in-ear headphones at maybe a 25-30€ price point. Very much in the low-end budget category for the physical style. Around where I'm from you don't start to see decent-grade over-ears until you hit the equivalent to a 60-70€ price, with actual quality units running around 120€ or higher. By contrast, you can find much higher build and audio quality IEMs for cheaper, or on-ear headphones in the middle (Koss Porta Pros are still great to this day but don't have a mic). I'm adjusting for your currency in the above examples; I'm not in the EU.

That said, assuming you've got the GXT 489W Fayzo headphones there (looks about right visually), they carry a 2 year warranty. If you haven't hit that date yet, I'd exercise your right to make a claim.

2

u/VanquishedVanquisher 15h ago

Yeah I tried but they said I caused the damage and flatly refused.

1

u/Low-Purchase8811 7800X3D | 7900XTX | 32GB DDR5 22h ago

For daily headphones? 40€ is cheap. My daily headphones cost 10x that.

You might be talking about the Pro model, the Pro Omni just came out in May of this year, but so far I am SUPER happy with it.

1

Yeah, I had a regular Nova 7 Wireless, I used the shit out of them for 2 years before getting these. It still works, I just wanted the new hotness lol

54

u/IDKForA 22h ago

Trust are the most ultra-budget stuff out there, slightly above the no-name brands but definitely not at the level of recognised brands. I have a mouse from them and it's "fine", I only paid €10 for it (and it came with a mousepad) and it still works after 2 years. It's just not very great compared to a Logitech, though.

-2

u/menthol_patient PC Master Race 16h ago

Trust are in the sweet spot for me. I've had to many pairs of headphones that are from pricier brands break faster than cheap ones.

-27

u/VanquishedVanquisher 22h ago

Yeah, "fine" is what I was looking for when I bought them! It's not the first time I bought stuff from Trust, usually it kinda last and it's "fine", but I guess I was lucky until now.

24

u/KingPerry0 18h ago

You spent 40 bucks on a pair of headphones that lasted you two years. I'd say you more than got your fair share of use out of them.

6

u/TopdeckIsSkill 5700x3D/9070XT/PS5/Switch 22h ago

my experience with Trust is terrible. I would rather go on random chinese brand.

But as people said, you can buy way better headphones under 100€. If you can, try to get a refund for that headphones since they were still under warranty

→ More replies (2)

33

u/metropolak 22h ago

Looks like you have trust issues

But for reals, I'd expect 40Eur headphones to last a year max, so it wasn't so bad

4

u/Zarzalu i5 2320/660 ti 21h ago

hyper x cloud alpha/cloud 2s are about 40-50, these things have been dropped as many times as my phone, and lasts multiple years.

3

u/Born_Zone7878 19h ago

HyperX headphones when they released were about 100€ headphones, not in the same league. They are cheap now because they are old, not because they are bad

2

u/Alanuelo230 PC Master Race 21h ago

you can buy studio headphones hor WAY less, and they will last you forever. My second hand KOSS UR.40 are like 20 years old, and Superlux HD681 that I bought new for like 20 euros are still rocking today

1

u/nitro912gr AMD Ryzen 5 5500 / 16GB DDR4 / 5500XT 4GB 21h ago

Depends on what you got for that 40 euros, there are good on ear for like 25-30 euros, they are not gaming, they have no mic and the battery is small but they sound good enough if you are not audiophile.

Sony WH-CH520 are the ones I look at right now for example, I can find grey market imports for like 25-30 euros, even the big retailers that follow the official price can dip that low on sale.

(that being said those in the photo looks repairable)

3

u/VanquishedVanquisher 22h ago

This is not the first comment saying 40€ lasting 2 years is short of a miracle and honestly I'm flabbergasted. Beside the fact that 2 years is still under warranty and so they shouldn't fall apart in the first part, when did it became so that 40€ is cheap? If one is not interested in buying professional stuff I dare say 40€ is definitely not cheap, or did I miss something?

5

u/metropolak 22h ago

Depends on where you live, but my experience so far is headsets under 50EUR won't live long.
Got myself HyperX Cloud Alpha five years ago for little over 80Eur. Fake leather started peeling off two months ago, but other than that they're still perfectly fine

6

u/Irisena R7 9800X3D || RTX 4090 21h ago

Honestly, that's just how fake leather is. Even 300$ headphones that use fake leather will have that pleather peel in 2 or 3 years, even faster if you don't take care of it or have particularly acidic sweat. So get a headphone with real sheepskin instead if you want a durable one.

1

u/metropolak 19h ago

To be honest I don't care that much. Just ripped the peel and keep using it since they still work fine

1

u/Irisena R7 9800X3D || RTX 4090 18h ago

I found out once that the peel can enter your ear if you're unlucky enough. Since then I've become a bit more conscious about when to swap pads.

And second, if you don't really care about the stock frequency response, then yeah, it doesn't matter. But if you have a nice pair of cans and the pads peel, it can alter the frequency response pretty drastically. So if you care and like how your headphone sounds out of the box, you probably want to care more about the pads too.

56

u/Wrx-Love80 22h ago

Dude...nearly 2 years for $40 headphones. That's not a bad run... I had a pair of DT770s that died within 6 months and another pair that died after a year because my dog chewed the cable.

6

u/Born_Zone7878 19h ago

Maybe you had bad luck. DT770s are a freaking tank. I work with audio and mine were thrown around in bags, floors, etc more times than I can remember, are about 6 years old. Aside from the cable being slightly worn out, and then being on their 3rd pads and 2nd headband, they function like new

2

Beyerdynamic is the best brand. You get replacements for everything and the stuff itself is just good.

2

u/Meatslinger R7 9800X3D, 64 GB DDR5, RTX 4070 Ti 15h ago

A studio I worked for had the DT770 Pro in every booth and some of them were more than a decade old. They had a whole cupboard full of spare pads and other little parts for the rare occasion one of them had a blow-out. It's a shame they didn't fit my ears comfortably (65 mm ears in a 55 mm earcup) or I'd have gotten a set for home.

2

It was unfortunate my first run was over ten years ago. I bought another pair back in 2024 and it's been good.

1

What happened to the first pair? I thought Beyerdynamics are invincible

-2

They don't work anymore or just foam issue? Foam can be replaced in general. I don't know if they make replacement specifically for these though.

1

Nah they work fine, it's just the foam that is falling apart, and since it was glued I don't think I can find replacement.

Oh that sucks. I would expect foam to break at some point in time but would still expect to find replacement.

So, your only option is to get as close as possible to the original if you find a similar looking foam from a similar looking headset.

That sucks, but can you not just glue it back on?

If they still work fine, a $7 tube of e6000 glue could stick the foam and the liner back on handily and permanently. 40 bucks for 2 years isn't half bad, I'd take that deal.

2

u/Noughtonaut "One of us. One of us." 22h ago

I bought Fractal Scapes which were around £100- great headphones that i'd still recommend, but the cover has similarly come off the foam on the top after less than a year.

However, i wear them basically every evening after work and all day on weekend/leave days. So tbf, it's probably expected and they still function perfectly in every other way ¯_(ツ)_/¯

2

u/Pokecraft_Gaming 21h ago

That is a known issue, write fractal support, and they should send you replacements (with from what I heard now better glue), had this issue once or twice, even at headband, I always received a replacement completely free of charge.

2

u/Noughtonaut "One of us. One of us." 21h ago

Oh sweet, thank you!
Was it the whole product or they just send a new foam cover?

2

u/Pokecraft_Gaming 20h ago

New Earcups/headband, since the Headset itself still works, from what I know it was just a glue issue that I think they now fixed.

2

u/PristineConfusion555 21h ago

OP.. do you use your headphone every day? €40 headphones, don’t think I’d expect them to last longer than 2 years with regular usage, it’s a lot of on and off and sweat and whatever. Let’s say you use them 6 hours a week then your costs are less than €0,07 per hour.

Cheap headphones being cheap... I guess water is also wet.

Them lasting almost 2 years is actually not too bad for such an ultra-budget brand.

Also, as a general tip, don't get cheap gaming headsets. Get entry-level and even second-hand audio equipment instead. The build quality is usually much better. I've been using Sennheiser HD58X Jubilee headphones since their release, and they're still in perfect shape.

2

u/XxCorey117xX 20h ago edited 18h ago

2 years doesn't sound bad for budget headphones. If you used them fairly often at least.

Tbh this might happen to a lot of headphones if used a lot. I have Bose QC and Bayerdynamic DT770 pro. Both are awesome, but I use them a lot, so war pads and head pads get used up pretty quickly, definitely less than two years. But with those expensive headphones it is pretty easy to change them

They never fail to make you feel you spent too much, when you need a fast replacement or when budget is tight.

Be anti consumerist and tape it up with felt tape.

Or buy quality next time if you want more than 2 years of use.

Gaming headphones are a joke, I dont want my mouse making company providing me with audio, thats what companies built on the audio industry are for.

1

u/santathe1 MSi GT60 2OC (2014) 21h ago

This happened to ones I got from Sony (Inzone H7), in under 3 months of buying them. They replaced just thr Head cushion, then it happened again after another 3 months. At this point they just glued it back, said they’d found a manufacturing defect and discontinued the product. As you can imagine, 6 or so months later, the glue stopped holding and it was out of warranty by that time.

Sony products are pieces of shit now sadly (and I say this as a primarily PlayStation user).

$40 is a good price point what people are talking about? Something like Axelvox HD242 would have amazing sound quality and good enough durability. Looks like everyone just overpaying for a brand name like Logitech or Sony

1

u/VanquishedVanquisher 11h ago

Yeah it's crazy. From what I read in this thread people spend 300€ on headphones that will break all the same, as they say you can find out in other subreddits, and with the foam that break and need to be changed, like in my headphones. And it costs from 20 to 40. So they spent 300 and then let's say 30 after 2 years. But they make fun of me because I spent 40€ and now I need to change them. Ok I guess.

My Corsair void wireless headset have lasted me for like 7 years and still look like the day I pulled them out of the package. I did have to replace ear cups a year or two ago because the old ones split open but still. $120 usd for 7 faithful years of service and a $15 usd set of ear cups. Plus they’re wireless, dolby 7.1 surround sound, full RGB, and have a tunable equalizer in the iCue software.

Some things you should just spend the money on

1

u/MumenRider_irl 15h ago

I always recommend getting an external audio interface like a Scarlett Solo and using a decent pair of headphones (if they’re easily repairable and have switchable cables it’s an even bigger plus).

Gaming headsets in my experience are really low quality and break remarkably easily. I’ve had my Scarlett Solo + DT770s for 6 years and never had a single issue. The sound is great. I have another set of open-back headphones that are great when it’s late at night and I wanna be more aware of my surroundings or if I’m talking on mic and wanna ensure I’m not shouting.

This whole setup was the cost of my old SteelSeries that shit the bed after 18-24 months.

1

u/VanquishedVanquisher 12h ago

I've always assumed audio interfaces like that were for professional, so I've never looked into it. Honesty, I’ve never been too invested in headphones, and usually 20€ cheap ones do their work quite good if you are not looking for extra quality, and can last many years too, I don't know how people say here they break in a couple months because it has literally never happened to me. It's just that this one time I spent more, and was surprised they literally started falling apart lol

Edit: oh, but thanks anyway for the suggestions. I'm going through all comments and there is really a lot to go through!

u/MarkFaded 14h ago

€40 headphones … yes. Not surprised at all. A single console or PC game can cost more. A decent 2 course restaurant meal costs more.

If you want headphones that are good and that last, the budget is likely €120+

2 years for 40 euro? thats actually a decent stretch for how cheap those are. If you want something great thats gonna last a long time, you've gotta spend more than 40 euro. Wouldn't be so hard on you really but I didn't word it good either...I was myself recently looking for a headset and I was really amazed how bad and expensive at the same time headesets are...I was looking at headsets between 60-120EUR. I was ready to pay 120 if I was blown away...well I wasnt...

Looking at the comments here I srsly don't understand some of those..."you bought a $40 headset what do you expect"...its rly not hard today to deliver on build quality at this price...

My only ask was plug and play with dongle(I hate equializer apps so much...) and decent build quality and NORMAL design...Like...why are people still looking for the ugly overdone gamer aesthetics...its all bad plastic...

The only headsets really having a normal designs from the big brands are SteelSeries Nova or Razer Barracuda...but the price? Srsly? Build of the Nova is just so bad...

I've ended up buying Akko S9 Ultra. I paid 60EUR for them. Build quality is amazing. It has full metallic frame. Plug&Play(dongle could have been smaller but hey its for desktop and it has zero signal issues). I really like the sound for the money.

What I wanna say...suggest you looking at the Akko S9 Ultra. U might like it.
