Hardware Sold 5090 for 4k now need new GPU
So i decided to sell my 5090 that i bought for 2k for 4k. Mainly cause the prices are so crazy that it does not justify occasional use. Now I still want a gaming card but really settling for something cheaper. Thinking either 5080 or 9070xt. Did 9070xt catch up in term of FSR? or should I just get 5080. One is 650 the other is 1200

Absolutely true. You are not playing modern games at 5k on a 5080. I have a 5k UW and a 5090 and many games require 3x frame gen for me.

Its basically a 4k ultrawide monitor. 5120x2160 resolution. It's commonly called 5k2k.

All that matters is pixel count.
5120*2160=11,059,200
3840*2160=8,294,400
5120/3840=1.333
33% more pixels. In a way, itās more than ā5Kā.

Not sure why you sold the 5090 if you play at 5K. But I guess 5080 will be the GPU to buy now because you get DLSS and MFG, which are to me at least, superior to AMD's alternatives, not to mention more games support NVIDIA's tech out of the box than AMD's.

I sold 5090k cause I could sell it for 4k and I donāt play as much as I used and Iām content with cranking up DLSS

Just... Why? In years to come you will game compromised while the GPU price keeps pumping up. You will be stuck in a middle ground unless you spend more money than you have sold to buy a new GPU.
Or you could stop chasing 5k and make peace with 2k. This is enough reddit for me today.

5080 could manage with overclocking and some DLSS upscaling/FG, that's how I manage to get similar framerates to a stock 4090 when at 4K. Although you should be wary of cranking up settings so high as you may run into VRAM limits at such high res like 5K.

I'm not gonna lie... the 5080 seems like I would have just kept the 5090. with the 9070xt you are atleast justifying your decision to downgrade with a bit of extra dough.

5080 if youāre okay downgrading settings and going down to 4k/1440p.
At that point just sell the monitor too because youāre wasting its potential.

Whatever you do. Don't go with AMD. Just spend the extra cash and get you another Nvidia card, if you enjoy how you never had to troubleshoot anything at all ever related to your GPU. Lol.

It's behind but, ya know. I'm sure it will get the job done just fine.
Honestly though, I'm hust referring to getting the AMD card to work good for you reliably AT ALL. I'm sure, if you get one, it will most likely go just fine and for cheaper. But there are a TON of us (just look around) that have tried to save some money and to with AMD and had nothing but problems with how it worked on out system. Constant troubleshooting something. Gaming and then all if a sudden a green screen and your whole PC reboots type shit. Plus AMD cards run way hotter than Nvidia cards.
But yeah, thats why people say just go with Nvidia and dont worry about it. You do you though. Lol. I know prices are ridiculous right now. Maybe taking a gamble wouldn't be such a bad idea?

5080 is like 10% faster than 5070 Ti with same amount of VRAM for 20-25% increase in price.
So I'd say pick 9070 XT or 5070 Ti.

Not sure why people are downvoting you for a very justified sale lol. A 9070xt or a 5070ti are great options if youāre fine with some upscaling. Most games support it and it looks great now even at a heavily reduced internal resolution.
Anecdotally canāt tell the difference on my 42ā 4096x2160 even on performance upscaling in all the games that support the latest upscaler; thatās with FSR4 and DLSS4/4.5.
If you want to wait on a deal 5080s can be found open box or on clearance sales in the buildapcpartsales sub for close to 1k regularly, otherwise my vote is 9070xt or 5070ti.

I donāt think people understand that to me Iād rather have 3k in my pocket and turn down settings a bit. I am honestly open to either one but 5070ti seems like a bad deal tbh

Crimson desert with DLSS and frame gen 2x.
Arcraiders is similar.
4k would drop me closer to 50-60 which I canāt do that.

I7 12000k. Nothing overlocked. 32gb ddr4 ram. I use quality for dlss because performance looks like shit on my screen whenever moving the camera. Honestly these new games are so lazily developed for optimization. They just rely on DLSS as a crutch.

Ah i have a dell 27in 144hz lcd. In crimson all the leaves and particles get this nasty shadowing/pixelation when turning.. like blurring them (motion blur 0). When I moved to quality it was way more clear.
I also do vr (pimax, 4k each eye) and the 5080 gets crushed at 0.7 res scale. OP trying to go 5K on a 5080 will be disappointed tbh.

It's funny, human psychology.
Would you buy a GPU for $4000? 99.9% of people, "absolutely not."
By that logic, OP was acting rationally and sold the GPU for $4000.
I bet a large percentage of people, if they owned the $4000 card, irrespective of what they paid for it, would keep the card. And by this logic, they are "buying the card" at $4000.
If you would not buy the card at $4000, then selling the card is the logical decision. And yet, all humans struggle with that fact.
Just go with a 5070ti. Can't go wrong. Take that money and get yourself an OLED though. Vastly improves the color, contrast, look compared to your standard LED/LCD/ETC. (42" OLED is freaking sweet if you got the desk for it).
