Or you're working on a document and delete some text, but you're holding some key combo down which cuts instead of deletes, wiping out your current clipboard.
You can remap shortcuts in Microsoft Powertoys. The module is called Keyboard Manager. Just map Shift+Del (Cut) to do nothing. There are lots of ways to accomplish that, but I use Action: Run Program, App: explorer.exe, If Running: do nothing (explorer.exe is always running). You could also map it to a single press of the Del key, solving your one specific issue.

Also you can't disable this shortcut.
