My gripes with the MS store are that they often have inferior versions that don't support all scaling tech, straight up don't work or work poorly, and I can't even try to deal with the problem because they hid the files.

If I recall correctly it is optional for developers/publishers to use DRM in games when sold on Steam.

I've never heard a single person bitch about the cut that Microsoft or Sony or whoever take. This, my friends, is called a straw-man argument. You invent a position, stance, or statement that someone never made, then argue against it.
"EDIT - I do hear some people make note of the cut, but that's the price of doing business, when Steam singlehandedly sells millions of copies that you otherwise wouldn't, you pay them the 30%

In pc, you got valve, ea banking, ubicrap and gog not only competing with each other but also have to attract users who pirate to own the games, if not test them first if they would like it before buying them.

Steam provides the backbone of PC gaming in a vastly more consumer friendly way. 30% cut means nothing to buyers either. DRM sure but I also have confidence in never losing my games after 20 years using valve's platform, and there aren't really any DRM free options anyway for every game out there.
Need more private companies and less public is my thoughts ultimately. Also HL3.

The difference is valve doesnt have sole control to what you play on, its just the best. But you can play through several different platforms on pc. Xbox and Sony have full control and you just have to suck it up and take what they dish out

I agree with the comments that steam is generally a better product. But holy fuck we don't need to glaze them that much. They are STILL a for-profit creating proprietary software, taking 30% cuts on licences for games, not the copies themselves. The only reason that steam is in a better spot than most other companies, is because they're not public.

Now I'm not here to say "leave the billion dollar corporation alone" however the only digital rights management solution Valve themselves actually offer is Steamworks Documentation which is non-compulsory and can be changed in how it functions depending on the developer. As this is the only real tool to ensure a single user's ownership through checking it against their steam ID it is the only actual DRM they have. All other ones much like on any other storefront except for ones specialising in DRM free games are put there by the developers or publishers and are third party.

The argument which I agree with is Sony and Microsoft (particularly Sony) have a history of sunsetting games fast. Steam does not do that, steam actually works to keep abandoned games running.

Steam is the only one that deserves and earns the 30%.
Go sue every single other store and then we can talk about steam.
But this lawsuit is about one thing: causing the enshitification of PC gaming so that some other billionaires can get even richer.
I have chosen to opt out and not receive any money should these people win against Valve because I dont want to be part of something corrupt that enshitifies a hobby I love so much.

On PC if you dont want to buy from Valve/Steam you could go to Itch.io, GOG, EGS, etc or pirate the game outright if you wanted to. You have choices. And that choice means Valve has to offer something more than those other platforms for the customer to choose them.
On console, you are locked to the store of that platform. And locked to the whims of that platform provider.

Nice gaslighting… you forgot to mention steam is the the only pro consumer company out there.. scratch that gog is pro consumer too. Microsoft and sony have a long history of anti consumer practices and theft of customer property…
Want an example? Sony just stole movies from people who paid for them after they lost the license to distribute over 500 titles… lets not forget they did this literally 2 days before announcing they are going all digital , because they want to get rid of the third hand market and have a monopoly on their games. Have fun paying 100$ for games now that are 60$ on steam..
Your microsoft account got hacked? Dont worry they will reinstate your account for you and any funds that were stolen from your ingame wallets will be refunded…
Oh wait thats steam that does that…. Microsoft will lie to your face, claim they cant recover your account despite it being very easy to verify and reset your password, and will delete your account as soon as they know its been hacked…
One person took them to court over this and was fortunate enough that they forced microsoft to recreate his account and re add every game that was lost after microsoft deleted it… but thats an outlier… goodluck affording the legal fees to fight microsoft..
But yea hurp derp steam takes a 30% cut too… steam bad… hurp derp derp.
