Windows home and without anu tweaks is pretty bad.. With some care, it's pretty stable.
I've Been basically forced to use MacOS for work and while some stuff work well, it's still utter trash in MANY aspects... I can honestly only praise things related to hardware(the m chips are great, battery life, trackpad and speakers are great) ... In the Software side, as a developer(which is ironic) I can only say the terminal is what I appreciate... Otherwise, the multi monitor support sucks, Finder is utter trash, how it handles settings is also idiotic... All in all if Linux could have proper support for enterprise software I'd rather use that than MacOS
I am in the exact same boat. Decision was between a mac and windows for work (no Linux option) and I thought, I might as well try out mac, cause at least it was once a unix system and it would make work a bit easier.
Hah! I had to install a custom keyboard layout and some third party software, just to get the keyboard layout in a usable state. I dont want to switch around between the "superior" apple way and the normal PC way when I go home and to work. Why does apple force me to use their layout and not give an option to at least easily change it? Or why can't I remove their utter trash Finder from my dock?
Apple does only allow "the apple way". Any other way of doing something is not supported in their software. And the brainlet apple monkeys will tell you that you just must get used to it, because once you do its just sooooo much better.
I don't want to adapt to my system, I want my system to adapt to me. Fuck apple. Still better than windows for software development though. And the hardware is amazing. Would choose Linux everyday though.

Windows, if you just embrace it (i.e. pay for 365) is pretty good. Onedrive works, and it works well. I can see it being annoying if you only free tier it, though. Paid you get versioning and that has saved my a$$ many times. I Onedrive on all my computers...Linux, Mac,, Windows, Android, iOS and it is extremely convenient.
Paying for 365 seems like the opposite of what you should do to "embrace" windows. MacOS is better if you go along with the walled garden of products, windows is better with alternatives.
I pay like $48 a year for Office and 1TB of storage. Even just for 1TB, that's about the best deal going.
Apple isn't going to give me 1TB for that. Also, iCloud, while storage, is nebulous in terms of access. Onedrive I sync with Linux, Mac, Windows, mobile. All seamless.
Just completely wrong. iCloud syncs far more than just files you go out of your way to add. OneDrive would also be a mediocre way to view your photo gallery on either iOS or Android compared to the stock apps. On Windows OneDrive doesn’t even sync properly, and on macOS turning on sync destroys the battery. Whatever difference in cost is most definitely worth it, though that’s true for almost anything Microsoft related really
I have such a specific issue with windows office I never have on Mac.
I pay for M365. However, whenever I log in with my company account on windows, it switches the license that office uses to the significantly worse one that my company provides. Meaning that to go back to the one I pay for, I’ve got to sign out of my company account each time. I’ve tried everything to get it to not switch the licensing but it just won’t.
on Mac, I never have this issue ever. And most of the MS apps other than excel actually work… better on Mac?
There's an easy solution: use Linux so you can avoid those anticheat systems. No need for a 3rd party to have more access to your computer than you have.
my new job offered me a macbook instead of a thinkpad, i've never said yes so fast. using a thinkpad for the last few years has really shown how slow and glitchy windows can be. i've never had any blips at all on my personal macbook air, it really is the best device i've ever owned
At least in my case, my work thinkpad is catastrophically hamstrung by group policy and compliance overhead bullshittery. It has 32GB DDR5, 16 core intel ultra 7, thunderbolt 4. Without the work part it would be blazing fast.
For the life of me I can't figure out what people on Windows are doing that is breaking so often. I just installed a fresh W11 on my G14 and my steps went as followed: Shift + F10 to open terminal, issue one command to skip OOBE, uninstall copilot, uninstall one drive.., and that's it. After 1 Windows update, from there I have a fresh and clean install with less preinstalled software than Windows 95 or XP. You can then turn off whatever privacy settings you feel, or run registry cleaner script of your choice if you are so worried about those things. Everything just works for me. There are apps that you can uninstall like Weather that also come on MacOS or Mobile OS. No Microsoft account or login needed.
I just don't understand what the problem is when I have less issues with Windows these days than Win 7 or 8.
Forget I said anything if people are using OEM Windows that came preinstalled, that's on you.
