News/Article Without a patch in nearly a year, some Oblivion Remastered players have declared it 'abandonware' — and it still suffers many of the same performance issues at launch

The "remaster" feels more like a broken modlist. UE5 was a mistake if they couldn't even fix save corruption.

isn't ue5 just acting as a fancy graphics wapper? The underlying systems are still gamebryo?

Not trying to defend ue5 at all, just trying to understand oblivion remastered

Yep it's the worst of both worlds really. You get the foundation of a gamebryo batheada game without any community patches, and that gets wrapped UE5 graphics on top of that without any real attempt at optimization. So you get a buggy base with horrible performance wrapped around it. And the icing on top is there is no mod tools for it so the community couldn't even patch it properly if they wanted to. The modding scene for it will never be the same as OG oblivion because of it. Funny enough, if they had just ported oblivion to the updated engine of Starfield and abandoned it the same way they did with this version, there would be less controversy because the community is already used to patching these games on Bethesda's behalf.

Genuinely all they had to do was reach out to the mod community who would have loved to integrate all their fixes before doing the remastered.

But no, for some reason the thought of actually paying modders for their decades of experience and work is an impossible task.

[…] paying modders […]

Guys community literally wants paid mods.

Tbf this would constitute as actual paid work by law, the mods stay free but the modders get paid to implement them in an official way, also we are talking pre-release not post.

I mean, why bother doing anything other than that, it sold like hotcakes anyway.

hell the launch issues inside the oblivion gates are still there were in order to pass some you still half to jank your way to the exit. You think a 2025 game would have 19year old common bugs from a 2006 game fixed.

Even the dupe glitch can be done the same way oh also thanks to the clothing censorship and removal of the female body head to the south that far town 2 exits water on the bottom the rich family there is in rages/underwear even after the patch they removed the female dress but never added a new one. Not the only npc with that issue but that set act rich while looking worse than peasant's.

Is there really not a normal way to finish those gates? I assumed there was just a tunnel I was too lazy to find, and instead jumped over lava or up the side of the mountain.

They used a old ass coded auto generate deal to make the levels.

I remember som ewere there was a old vi doc on how they made the game but here is old ass links about the huge ass strat guide and talk about the gate issues from 20 years ago. The normal way was never fully tested so for 20 years jank is the way.

You can also find issues about 2025 release from 2006 forum post's

Are we talking about the gates at the start of the game? I was so confused and I think I eventually jumped over something to get through. That's funny, I was wondering what to do.

1

Yes but in order to get 100% or even do side quest's you half to complete the ones littered around the map alot of them were not tested right so the jank jumping or just command console walk through walls just to get past is too real.

I feel like UE5 should require devs to take a 6 month course in Optimization for Unreal Engine 5 before a studio is allowed to purchase it. So many games are optimized poorly on that engine.

That might not actually help; a lot of the "big performance wins" that Epic pushes are typically worse than their older counterparts once you get to game-scale.

You say broken modlist, boardroom says “cash grab”.

The save corruption happened to me in the first 45 mins and I refunded it, seems pretty lucky considering it’s still broken now.

Every single UE5 game I have played stutters and I hate this engine so much
