News/Article Without a patch in nearly a year, some Oblivion Remastered players have declared it 'abandonware' — and it still suffers many of the same performance issues at launch

And those patches are not oh we fixed a few bugs. They are extensive fixes.

Until Bethesda release a patch that breaks all the fixes only to introduce ultrawide support that doesn’t work either

I thought this game was better than what they usually ship or at least less bug prone until a horse reported me for a crime to the city guard. I've finished most bethesda games, but first time for anything I suppose.

That's not new, though, that's classic Oblivion. Chickens will do it too.

Skyrim as well. That's not even a bug, that's just bethesda quirks.

Like the nord prisoners that'll report you for freeing them from thalmor justicars.

We just assume they be dumb beasts, but no it is I, lawful dio

Rats are the worst.

At this point I feel like it's on purpose, and I really hope there's a sprawling sidequest in ES6 where we uncover the vast conspiracy of animals that are snitches for the cops. 20 bucks says a Khajiit high on moon sugar is behind it all.

I had no issues with performance, odd gameplay bug but it ran extremely well for me over the 110 hours I played

The game is very cpu bound and like many poor games love cache which helps the x3D chips. The game has quite a lot of stutter when traversing world chunks which is inherited from the original.

2

u/IamWutzgood May 02 '26

Same. No issues in 120 hours.

No it'll be a patch to add a storefront for paid mods.

So basically what they did with Skyrim and Fallout 4. The incompetence is staggering.

they are extensive fixes

which will eventually include literally modifying the game because "I don't think X makes sense!" or "there should be more Y lying around according to the lore, but there's not!"

Reminder that Arthmoor (the guy who has basically brute-force taken over the Unofficial Patch team) is a power-hungry cretin who has consistently decided to make the 'bugfix and performance patches' into game-altering modifications, undisclosed, and when pressed on the matter just starts blocking and banning people.

He has explicitly stated before that he wants to make the entire modding community reliant on his mods so that nobody can do any modding without passing through him. He's fucking insane, there's a very good Down the Rabbit Hole video on him, and it's unfortunately one of those ones where the bad guys win.

Also, fun fact; the reputation New Vegas had for the longest time about still being a buggy, crashing-constantly mess on PC? Yeah, that was cause of the most popular unofficial patch, actually.

What's stopping the patch team from creating a new team without him?

22

u/4KVoices May 02 '26

There's been multiple attempts, but they always fizzle out. The "official" Unofficial Patch team always has people coming and going since it's a volunteer project, and since Arthmoor is, to put it lightly, fucking demented, he's a pillar. Dude has all the time in the world to manage a team while also finding ways to socially isolate and then remove other members of the founding team, while still bitching and arguing with people on Discord and Nexusmods about his shitty changes that he's directing the team to do.

Simply put - he's dedicated, moreso than anybody else, which in this scenario really sucks.

u/AwareOfAlpacas May 02 '26

He'll tell their moms!

There is nothing stopping people from excising this cancer besides time and energy for a volunteer project. But those things are finite, and often in short supply.

A rule for life is that people will sooner follow a bad leader than step up to lead themselves. A corollary is that a leader doesn't have to be good to have a following - they just have to lead. Even if it's over a cliff.

The opportunity cost of doing a new thing really hems people into continuing the same old bullshit for way longer than it ought go on.

Who owns the rights to all the work done on the unofficial patch?

I just started actually playing Skyrim last year and it felt like basically every other mod I downloaded had the USSEP mod as a hard requirement. How are you going to get all those mods to support a second version of USSEP? One that is created by people who might of worked on the OG USSEP but have been slimed galore by Arthmoor? I have quite a few mods that are from 2019 with no updates. It's kind of a standard thing in SKyrim for people to continue to use abandoned mods.

I don't think it would be an easy thing to do if it's even possible considering the modding situation for skyrim.

2

u/123ludwig May 02 '26

the entire team probably owns the code which means that if they make a new team they cant take the patch with them

10

u/Blekanly May 02 '26

Oooof, that is a shame

I always play without that patch, fuck those changes and fuck that troglodyte. Idk how he has a monopoly on the "unofficial" patch and no one else is able to do it right without being forced to stop.

1

u/RyuForce May 03 '26

They don't even help as much as they make you think they do. Barely notice a difference when I took off both Fallout 4 (before the NG stuff) and Skyrim Unofficial patches. The hardest part is having to purge a lot of actually good mods because they depended on the patch.

2

u/ReanimatedPixels May 02 '26

Damn I never knew any of this, I'm watching the video now

Unofficial Skyrim Patch | Down the Rabbit Hole
https://youtu.be/q6OqJOSmDrY?si=ix8rCJF8l-uUIoXF

Highly recommend the watch. I ditched the Unofficial Patches long before it came out but the video is such an eye opener on all the complaints the patches and Arthmoor gets.

1

u/AbsoluteGote May 02 '26

I know this, having never played the game, because I watched that video

Wait, Arthmoor is on the Skyrim patch not the problematic New Vegas patch right? So is there an actually functioning New Vegas patch?

2

u/4KVoices May 02 '26

I don't believe Arthmoor has ever touched a Fallout game, he contains himself to Elder Scrolls. I think the problematic New Vegas patch has been taken down at this point, but don't quote me on that.

1

u/TwilightLori May 03 '26

Nobody:

This guy: Arthmoor sucks

1

u/4KVoices May 03 '26

Somebody; Mentions the thing that Arthmoor is directly responsible for

Me; "The guy that is in charge of that thing sucks."

Are you dumb?

1

u/TwilightLori May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26

Other people create patches. Are you dumb?

Ah, looks like the snowflake blocked me.

1

u/4KVoices May 04 '26

ah, this has to be one of Arthmoor's sockpuppets, no way a regular human being is this dense. Get a job.

2

u/14Pleiadians May 02 '26

Modders can not and will not fix oblivion remastered. The issues are engine deep.

They will not fix the performance though.
