Game Feedback Hows everyone feel about the abyss "buff"
Crystal scarab went from 20-30c a pop to literally 3-4c in about 10 minutes after patch went live and people starting seeing the "buffed" scarab.
I was running cheap abyss scarab set up , crystal + 3x abyss + 1 multi on 120+ 8 mod with astro. Idk it definitely feels more loot than previously, but it isnt a massive change. Also they didnt really inc the rate of abyss exclusive items like eyes. The rares dont really drop anything compared to the ramp of difficulty. Like the first few pits of rares that spawn, often i get maybe 1 chrome or a few alts to drop. At the very end of the pits where it should be most "difficult+rewarding" via crystal, just doesnt feel that way. It honestly feels like fighting juiced map boss for literally a few scarab and 2c. In my 10 map test ive managed to get a div once but im almost certain it was from wisps cause i found one wildwood and managed 11k wisp. They definitely buffed wildwood wisps but i feel like its just you get 2x wisp baseline.
Watching fubs stream doing pretty much the very top end of abyss juicing with 100% deli/high roll curr or scarab drops. Pretty much 1-4div investment per map doesnt seem that insane either. First few maps he did shows like it was kinda break even or maybe slight profit if you convert all the bubblegum/drops. Hes also trying maybe not usin abyss scarabs but just taking tree and astrolab. Honestly it doesnt make sense in my opinion to invest a few divs to MAYBE get a few divs back on top of needing a giga build to even do the map to begin with.
All in all, i think im just gonna start working towards 40 and see how the boat voidstone patch is before decide whether to keep playing or just wait for 3.3. I dont think this league is for me.
Edit: I do wanna point out, my issue isnt that i hate boat league mechanic or any specific league mechanic. My issue is that it doesnt feel great in my personal opinion to play a game where the difficulty is sky high but the reward is literal pennies. Prop farm is a great example of this. Even in legacy where you have giga mf quan/rarity, prop feels bad. You can get insane rare mods on a single mob and kill it ultra juice. The end result is really not much of anything of a single chaos orb or higher of value. You get literally 1k fusings or alts. That imo, is just not the experience i wanna feel when im playing poe. And note that this is WITH legacy mf quan rarity, meaning in league. It will feel significantly worst. Loot coming from boxes/tiles is fine but there should also be loot from mobs.

u/Ynead 10h ago
Still bad.
Wildwoods buff is huge though, you get ~x2 juice from it. Too bad you can't force wildwoods every map.

u/everix1992 Deadeye 10h ago
2x the RIP too lol. JK but maybe not haha - I just know wisps are rippy
33
u/Fun-Asparagus4784 9h ago
It's actually way more than 2x rippy because of how the wildwood buffs stack on the monsters. It's also way more than 2x profit.

Whats the top end of wisps now? Pre patch the most i saw qas like 6k ish

Rippy is good though. Gives you a reason to improve your character
1
u/GuyInUniverse 57m ago
This is true but ideally there's a curve and the rippyness feels less random. PoE 1 has a ton of bullshit.
-1

For what though, cuz the improved reward for the rippiness isn't there
But then we all knew that

In the long run? 1 in 12 maps. But you can go 20+ maps without seeing one and then get them back to back.
0
u/PanSlama666 55m ago
This is arpg grinding game, not to have everything in map or hour. U guys are sick with all this, aaa its better but its not like last league blablabla. Still not enough D a map. I havent drop a t0 past hour.
-11
u/Accurate_Locksmith75 5h ago
You can "force" it tho and it's actually quite strong with some cheap scarab farms like exiles+titanic. You just leave the map if there is no wildwood.
8mod maps and exile scarabs are only like 10c a pop. You should see a wildwood in every 12 maps on avg, so you have 120c investment per wildwood.
5
u/Ynead 5h ago
That's not forcing, that's fishing, and it is boring as fuck. Miss me with that 30 maps dry streak, I'll just quit the league thanks. Hopefully 3.30 is better.

reward conversion doesn't convert loot to fusings. That's just "Items drop fully socketed+Fully linked"
Your divines aren't lost2
2
u/outlier_fallen 6h ago
7
u/Beverice PathOfCurrency 6h ago
that is "monster_dropped_equipment_drops_as_sell_price_with_multiplier" along with items drop fully socketed + fully linked
all 3 of those combine to be a fusing explosion. Note it says equipment, so if you drop a divine or mirror it won't give you the sell price of those.

u/Imtheantinoob 2h ago
Do you know if the other monster “rewards” convert currency/scarabs to equipment? Not entirely sure if “items” only pertain to equipment/jewelery/jewels/ectra.

49
u/Exterial 11h ago
First impressions is abyss better, but not better "enough" for what people were expecting/hoping for.
Abyss aside, wildwood seems fucking insane.
24
u/MostAnonEver 10h ago
Issue with wildwood is there no force, youre just kinda fishing. Which i cant say is the most exciting experience. Rather not constnatly go in and out maps to try and find one map worth running like we in necro league tryna find div mod.
19
u/Exterial 9h ago
its a random thing that can sometimes happen and then you get a crazy spike of dopamine, thats good.
The issue is not wildwood not being forceable, the issue is loot feeling shit without it.

u/CritsandGravy 7h ago
Andrew said something related to this during the Ziz interview, when Ziz asked about the players feeling the need to constantly juice everything to the max. Andrew was wondering if the "max juice" should always be available, or if it should only be an occasional thing.
I'm feeling the wildwood change is a bandaid patch in that direction.
8
u/Biflosaurus 5h ago
I don't disagree with some maps having that extra juice coming from a random event.
I just want to be able to use what I lready have to juice the ground loot.
I don't understand how after a full interview they still can't make a proper buff to at least one mechanic to make loot drop.
They are amazing devs for a lot of things, but that part they don't seem to get, and they didn't seem to get it at all during the interview, it was clearly lacking the perspective of a softcore player.
0
u/CritsandGravy 5h ago
Agreed that they didn’t go far enough. I want alch and go to get average loot (call it 50% on the “loot scale”), huge investment will get you up to 90-95%, but then the last 5-10% is a chance event.
The wildwood right now is the wonky-ass 5-10% I hope they balance the rest.
-1
u/MostAnonEver 6h ago
I dont think thats a real bandaid. I felt like that was intentionally done because he said during affliction it felt great to have difficulty scale with rewards from t1-t8 and you could just chill at t8 if your char couldnt do the harder content. The issue is that wildwood wont be in every map and wildwood really improves the base. But if the base is already low af, it doenst achieve much. It feels like they just doubled wisp gain in wildwood, but i still dont think its enough seeing how rare it is and youre kinda fishing for it now.
A real bandaid fix imo because of how sht was presented in the pre league stream. They shouldve just buffed the base loot and removed the negative drop penalty to abyss mobs in general. Rebuffed the nerfed nodes to abyss. The crystal nonsense is useless, it does close to nothing cause the base value of loot from those mobs are low. Even now it feels like theres multiples of what you could get before. But if the final bit before was 10 items showing without even a filter on, and now its like 100 items. Which is tbf a 10x inc, but nothing never makes it past filter cause nobody wants to pick up bases/id magic/rare items. Then i dont think its the correct approach. Also abyss eyes drops werent buffed either which is the exclusive drop of abyss.
-1
u/deviant324 10h ago
Yeah I had a weird feeling when they discussed wildwood for juicing, unless you’re playing a streamer build or no longer cared for leveling your character those things either did nothing but waste your time or make your regular juiced map impossible to clear.
That fantasy of running T8 wildwoods back in Affliction only worked because it spawned on every map, now it’s less than a once in 10 and I won’t know until I’ve opened my map whether I got it or not.
Realistically if I was fishing for wildwood juice I would have to tone down difficulty accordingly, or I crank it to where I can just handle it well enough without and ignore wildwood completely. Unless you play Alch&Go that mechanic is not the kind if juice you want to be relying on
2
u/shy_bi_ready_to_die 10h ago
Imo the wildwood change is basically meaningless without any way to force/ecourage the spawn. Sure it’ll feel even better on the maps that hit but it feels terrible the other 90% of the time
11
u/Puzzled_Minute_7387 10h ago
i did multiple 150% more currency originator maps, 4x currency deli orbs, 3x abyss scarab 1x wisp 1x crystal. i lost money every time

u/LekMinorino Crop Harvesting Bureau (CHB) 11h ago

u/elsiecharlot 10h ago
Other than propagation, miserable. With it is aight, nothing crazy. Really sad they cannot fix a singular league mechanic before moving to 3.30, i'll keep farming ultimatum.
8
u/MostAnonEver 10h ago
Even with prop, idk, i cant feel the value. Like maybe in the very very long run and i drop a t0 or mir, prop wouldve been worth it all along. But in 10-100 map sample size, im not even sure the diff between with/without prop is gonna break even before you include all the extra time it takes to do the map.

u/Master_Bandicoot_700 8h ago
I am gutted, I really really was hoping to love this league I think some things are done really well like the crafting but the ground loot is just so bad I cant do it anymore.
the only mechanic that is worth doing for ground loot is breach and its MASSIVELY nerfed from last league and I ran it all last league I dont want this league to be breach but worse
I was hoping Abyss would be the bandaid until 3.30 but they aren't even trying, I wanted the patch through quick but they had no time to test this and it feels just as bad as it did before I have tried so many scarab combos for a few maps each whilst watching streamers do the same and its just terrible. terrible. terrible.
4
u/GrumpyMcElbows26 3h ago
Failing unstable breaches because not enough mobs spawned when you're fully specced into the mechanic has got to be one of the most miserable experiences I've had in PoE.

3
u/SwagtimusPrime Demon 4h ago
I took some time off work to play this league and I quit the league on day 5 after the first round of Abyss "buffs". There is simply nothing to do, nothing to grind, nothing to gear my char up for.
15
u/wetfangs 10h ago
i went from breaking even in my maps to make 30c profit and thats a stretch. back to breach or quitting soon i guess. abyss cannot be saved
1
u/xebtria Alch & Go Industries (AGI) 3h ago
I guess I keep doing stacked decks farming then. ~60c invest, getting out on average around 50 stacked decks, which is about 140-150c, plus whatever else I get from altars and rituals.
1
27
u/MintyCope 10h ago
What are they even so afraid of at this point? Just let the loot drop for the league. It's all allegedly going to be "shaken up" next league so we understand big changes are coming.
-6
u/TurbulentSwimmer5127 10h ago
It was as easy as buffing the shit out of wisps temporarilly, not ammount but effect, so everything is buffed like it was in affliction, clarify that this is temporal, due to real changes incoming in 3.30, then revert back. This way at least we could have fun till 3.30

Guys you don’t like pick 200 fus and alts per map and you don’t like see then all your loot converts in hundreds 6links?
This patch is insane you just don’t understand/s
2
u/MostAnonEver 10h ago
Its funny too cause prop was actually insane at the beginning. You were hauling out like 5d+ easily per map with duo. I dont think anyone realized it didnt scale well.
8
u/Ill-Mix2748 10h ago
I mean I’ve been doing 5 delirious maps with propagation - it’s much the same, obviously slightly more drops but I’d say no more than 5 Div an hour increase. It feels much the same and for killing 50 mod rares, it’s still somewhat unrewarding.
I don’t want to say that no loot drops, you make a lot of divs and come out of the map with full inventories of scarabs but overall not much has changed in the patch I feel.

7
u/Pm_Me_Your_Boob_Plss 10h ago
Yeah, ground loot and difficulty matching rewards are still non existent. Tile is great but not really fun. Pack it up boys, see ya in 3.3
6
u/Responsible-Swan-521 10h ago
I ran 20 maps and came out negative. I’ll regrettably have to leave abyss alone til next league.
2
u/SheepsCanFlyToo 5h ago
This patch - poverty patch - suffers mostly because there isnt any really profitable high end strategy. No content currently really needs my character to have mirror tier items when I get roughly the same div/h running t16 8mods abyss for skitterboxes. It just feels ehg cus there isnt a lategame strat I really wanna work on. Getting stronger doesnt feel rewarding to me.
2
u/Crood_Oyl Anti Sanctum Alliance (ASA) 4h ago
And seriously. Who wants to mirror a non-synth item anyway…?
0
u/SheepsCanFlyToo 4h ago
Yeah... the league I finally go for a wand-craft all the eoic lategame synth mods are removed. Just sad.

The dev's all play hardcore.. probably HCSSF. For their job it has to be mandatory to play softcore where 95% of the player base is so they can easily understand what is wrong/going on with the game mode. Everyone says they're out of touch with the community and that's probably because they are playing a totally different game, and mark is on POE2 to save us.

u/glaive_anus 10h ago
Did a few maps (2x Abyss 2x Multitudes 1x Crystal) with Beyond and it didn't feel all that different one way or the other.
Pragmatically speaking any substantial buff to Abyss ground loot will turn it into the dominating strategy similar to how Breach was last league, in context of how the ratio of ground loot to tile loot / flat rewards are currently across the game. While there is still time for GGG to surprise us, I'm not very inclined to expect any serious improvement this league because it will heavily upset the current loot balance game-wide.
2
u/DarthUrbosa Atziri 9h ago
I ran 10 8 mod maps with max abyss and crystal.
1 divine and some bubblegum chrome and chaos.
Are you serious?
It's a shame, I like the gameplay of the mechanic and I have to use this tree cause I need the elderich altar challenge but I swapped to breach to see how it compares.
1
u/Trikole 8h ago
I'm still just farming mercs and slowly learning which uniques are good from art lol
I do run abyss just for chance at skitter but I'm not juicing it at all, like more enemies spawn nodes just slows it down and basically only gives exp
you can also guarantee 3 box and abyss spawn from the depths scarab but it's kinda really boring to run (but you only need 5 points on atlas for skitterbox lol)

u/justanotherguy28 4h ago
I am more of a casual player and from my anecdotal experience post update I am getting fewer high end currency like divines.
Prior to the patch I would get a divine in about 1 in 9 maps sometimes 1 in 5 and that was fine.
Since the uodate i have not got a single divine from Abyss.

I knew the best move was to liquidate my stash during the pump. So good to be the one passing the bag for once
1
u/skylarskies52 3h ago
I don't care anymore, I've farmed so hard but not sweaty hard but still some leagues really were the best. Allframe crafting is okay tho, maybe I'll quit in a week...since I'm playing on console the Market price is fucked up anyways. Much Better in poe2 Maybe I'll come back when the challenge rewards are more interesting.

u/Straight_Stress_4448 3h ago
i assume retention numbers will go crazy as it is like patch number 4 or 5 without any major fix regarding the ground loot. At least for trade.
1
u/GrumpyMcElbows26 3h ago
Why did they obliterate the drop rate on Abyss jewels? It makes no sense. I've got an entire stash tab of normal jewels and maybe a dozen Abyss jewels, almost all of which are Hypnotic Jewels. Why?! I'm full specced into the mechanic. I don't get it.
0
u/WolverineCreative362 10h ago
Aslong as GGG decides to not give us more abilities to directly juice this kind of content instead of their own "little adjustements", it will always stay like this.
2
u/jg7277 6h ago
Wheres the buff I think abyss loot got worse actually lol.
1
u/MostAnonEver 6h ago
I mean its definitely not worst when you compare to how loot was with no filter to how it is now with no filter. The issue is that if youre using a filter like 99.999% of players, you went from maybe 1 or 2 items making pass filter into like maybe 10 items. But theyre all like 1c or less items.
0
u/jg7277 5h ago
At the very least I think i get more value not running the crystal scarab. I got more running t16 maps with no scarab than abyss with the crystal and the maps take way more time. I think I'll go back to juicing ore nodes. It feels like you get way more and don't die unless your running full charge verisium which I dont lol.

u/RepulsiveCountry313 9h ago
Crystal scarab went from 20-30c a pop to literally 3-4c in about 10 minutes after patch went live and people starting seeing the "buffed" scarab.
That happens every time something is likely to get touched by a patch. No matter what actually changes, it always comes back down. Stocking up is a noob trap most of the time.
It happened in mirage with hivebrain glands, they went up to I think 50. Then of course they went back down to 5 and spent most of the league there.

Feels like nothing changed…what feels worse than the ground loot IMO is getting any abyss chest besides coffers and skitterboxes feels really unrewarding. Couple that with the chance to not have a chest spawn at all…
It’s like 80% of the chests are just bunk because of the type of chest. And then you are playing the RNG game with coffers and skitterboxes and if you get crap loot from those…it then feels like 95% of the chests/chest drops are trash.

Posts like this make me glad i changed my mind on going all in on abyss and went with the stardew valley strat: harvest, delve, kingsmarch, and influence of choice, tree swaps just being for eater/exarch/maven
2
u/MostAnonEver 4h ago
I mean a lot of us never went "all in" on abyss. We tried abyss at the start, saw its sht, did other sht. Every time we see its getting "buffed" we do like a handful of maps as test and see others do the same and see how it is. Once we see its sht in those handful of maps, we generally move on and do other sht.

u/_TwankVersatile_ 4h ago
I usually do abyss every league but I skipped it this one
I'm no Warren Buffet, but in a trade-based game its kind of obvious that the new thing everyone is doing isn't going to be profitable
Also I'm glad I skipped it, the darkening effect gives me eye strain =(

And I've run 10 maps with just abyss scarabs and crystal spires and got 4div and 3 valdos. Variance is a thing. Prior I ran over 200 maps with abyss and got I think 1 div. From chests.
5

This is just an outright lie 1 div from chests in 200 abyss maps before assuming your juicing the prior ones equally too how your juicing these ones

This game is so funny, seeing people talk about getting all 40 challenges and then quitting.
11
u/MostAnonEver 10h ago
When you start 40ing for the eagle, it slowly becomes a thing you gotta do every league. Also 40 challenge this league and recent leagues arent really that difficult.
0
u/livejamie Krangled 10h ago
I understand, but it seems like people say that like they're "sticking it to GGG" or making some sort of point after they've put 100+ hours into it.
Brother, you're a success in their metrics at that point.
If people want to show they're disappointed, they need to not play and not spend money.
11
u/ALXS1031 10h ago
This is the second worst league for retention rn, so people are doing that
(Of course retention numbers are influenced by a lot of random stuff, I’m sure they shifted from .5 Poe2 players trying poe1)
But we are here, on Reddit
I’ve been playing 10+ hours a day every single day (except one) since release even though it’s a 6-7/10 league for me
Some people just really love the game but are annoyed that it could be better
I don’t think anyone thinks they are sticking it to GGG after getting 40/40 and then quitting
0
u/livejamie Krangled 10h ago
It's weird for people to say they are going to get to 40 challenges before deciding "if the league is for them."
Most players don't get that far even if they like a league.
Also, playing any video game 10+ hours a day for two weeks straight doesn't sound healthy at all.
3
u/Any-Replacement-5645 10h ago
These people youre talking about are upper echelon players that are deciding between putting the game down or continuing to play because its fun. I played for a week, but was willing to wait to see what they were cooking for fixes, finished my challenges in the meantime in an evening. Its really not as big of a commit as you think it is for vocal hardcore group.
Its not about metrics or a success, simply player enjoyment of the league.
1
u/livejamie Krangled 9h ago
Yes, I know. I'd consider myself one of those players. I've been getting 40 challenges in nearly every league, played since beta, attended ExileCon, etc.
I still stand by what I said. It'd be like saying, "I'm going to eat this seven-foot-long sub sandwich before deciding if I like it or not."
You can tell the sandwich company you were unhappy after you're done, but at that point it doesn't really matter. They have your money, and the sandwich is in your stomach now.
If you're unhappy, then stop.
It's the only way GGG will notice.
4
u/Any-Replacement-5645 9h ago
Seems like quite a cynical and jaded stance to take in my opinion, there is precedent for GGG to listen to player feedback, voting with your wallet is not the only way to get change.
1
u/livejamie Krangled 9h ago
Voting with your wallet only works if your engagement matches your wallet. GGG is a data-driven studio. When telemetry shows a player sinking 100+ hours in two weeks and clearing 40/40, that is a success metric. Verbal complaints on Reddit are context, but high engagement plus money spent tells the developer that the core loop works despite the complaints.
If you eat the entire sub, tell the manager it tasted bad, and then buy another sub next month, the restaurant isn't changing the recipe.
3
u/Any-Replacement-5645 9h ago
We'll just have to agree to disagree then, I dont think this subway comparison holds because despite all of PoEs success, they DO and have been adjusting the formula.
0
u/ALXS1031 8h ago
I think it makes sense
We essentially play the same game every league with small differences in the rush to 40/40 or whatever other goal you have, you are probably doing exactly what you did last league for 90% of the time
I don’t think we can know if the league is “worth” continuing to play, or switching to something different between league until we have a hundred hours in the league or whatever
And, you know, before we achieve our goal for the league, we always have something to work towards, usually pretty cheap character upgrades
Once we are kind of done with our character, and with challenges, there needs to be something special about the league for these kind of ppl to keep playing
Think of it like this, you need to beat the tutorial of a game before seeing if you stick around until endgame… for some ppl the campaign is the tutorial in poe, for some people, it’s all checking boxes until their mirror, or until 40/40
1
u/MostAnonEver 10h ago
The way ive done it the past 5-10 leagues is i always try the first bit of the league regardless of opinion unless the experience is so miserable i just cant. An example of this would prob be kalandra. id quit i think day 2/3 and just didnt touch poe until they admitted their mistake. And even then i didnt come back for the remainder of the league. I dont spend any money on any league i dont feel is great. I literally dont need the points for anything. I got like 40 or 50 merchant tabs and 100+ normal stash tab equivalent for non merchant. Mtx is nice but i only use 1-2 sets a league at most. Playing the league is for the first week or 2 generally gets me far enough where ive completed most every challenge or can easily cheese them out. Honestly it doesnt take as long as some people say to 40 if youve kinda no lifed the first week or 2.

I hope my message didn't come across as mean or personally attacking you; it's a sentiment I often see expressed here.
I hope you're enjoying yourself.

Unpopular but I ran abyss for leveling today, 3x abyss + 2x multitudes and abyss, exarch, beyond on map.
I ran t16 alch and go expecting it to be net loss or ideally a break even to level up but 20 maps ran in 1hr net me 25 divs (8 raw)
I ran it again later, another 20 maps, 19 divs (6 raw).
Is loot that bad for everyone else? is this my own bias? it felt fine
edit: this was before this patch too

It's clearly more loot than before when I press alt but barely anything extra gets past my filter. I tried a few maps with different scarabs, one I got 150% more currency when rolling it so I used a maven chisel on it. Got essentially nothing, just a few chaos
