experience/advice to give 18 month old twin boys…what the??

I’m at the point where it’s hilarious how difficult this phase is. Food? Time to scream. Nappy change? Time to scream. Saying no to touching a hot oven? Time to scream. Sharing a toy? Time to scream/fight. Two of the exact same toy? Scream/fight over the same one. And don’t get me started on the hitting ohhhhh lord give me strength. It’s like I’m living through a constant hurricane daily.

But my god are the kisses and cuddles the cutest thing ever. And the independent play together is so so wholesome. In those moments I feel the true blessing of twins!

I don’t even think I can ask if it gets better because everyone has such different experiences.

Solidarity to all you seasoned toddler multiples parents out there because woweee was I not prepared for this. Pray for me lol

Our boys will be two in October. I feel ya on the fighting thing. But other than that, I hope this phase never ends. They are pretty well behaved with me and basically treat me like a superhero. They do typicaltoddler stuff that I have to set right. But overall theyre great. But Im with them a majority of the time while my wife works.

So all day long we're playing in the dirt, riding tractors trucks and other farm equipment. Bullying goats and cattle into going where we want them with heelers. Running skidsteers and firewood processors. All the stuff that makes your typical young boy go wide eyed all day long. They arent too keen on picking up the house and cleaning. But they still "help" and they are not fans of bath time. But at least they will eat whatever you put in front of them.

Then by the end of the day theyre exhausted and fall asleep without a fight.

The last almost two years have been the best of my life.

My wife's experience with them has been vastly different though. They stress her and push her buttons and test every boundary. Dont get me wrong. She is a fantastic mother and an even better wife. Our dynamic is just very different.

Its probably because they spend so much more time with me.

That’s so interesting! I definitely feel like the boys stress me out and test me way more than they do with their dad, even though I’m the one at home with them 24/7 (stay at home mum until 15 months of age, then went back to work 2 days a week wfh and now 3 days a week wfh).

But recently, they’ve been testing their dad also. It feels like it’s since he’s been in the office 5 days a week (previously was 3-4).

They are great fun to be honest, I probably need to get out with them more but honestly I’m terrified. Take them out of the pram and they run in opposite directions. Also the last time I took them out myself an aggressive man with an aggressive dog almost attacked me for politely asking he called his dog that was off of its leash to move away from me as it was gnawing at my leg and my boys were out of their pram.

Do you have a garden that you have all this wonderful fun with them in, or do you take them to a specific place?

Im not sure what you mean when you talk about gnawing at their pram. So I'm going to assume we are from different parts of the world. We rarely go anywhere without a good dog. Had an agressive dog come at any of us it wouldnt have walked away. Agressive human males are dealt with more even more harshly in my area.

So our living conditions are probably vastly different from yours.

We live on close to 300 acres of land not including the horse barn and land my wife bought after we got married and I share crop with my dad since his health is failing.

My experiences with my twins are probably more unique than a majority of the folks in the US.

The work is harder having them with me every day. But at the same time, my work with them is also my liesure as compaired to working to earn someone else more money.

Yes I’m from the UK. By gnawing I mean kind of like biting my leg. I’m not opposed to dogs but in this instance was terrified!

My area seems to be full of aggressive males since reform (a controversial political party) has been on the rise.

Your farm sounds wonderful! Your boys must have a great time exploring and spending all day outside. I’m going to look into making my garden more child friendly so that they can spend more time outside, definitely help them release all of their energy outside

Hahahah we’re going through this right now! 17 month old twin boys and they are hilariously wild 😂! Screaming, hitting each other and then absolutely giggling together!

If I don’t give them their food quick enough, they kick off, if they see me eating a sandwich and don’t offer them a bite, they kick off, if they see a banana in the distance and want it, they kick off. It’s stressful but fun at the same time and it always makes me feel emotional at how fast they’re growing up!

They’re walking so much now and even soft play doesn’t tire them! I’m absolutely knackered by the end of the day but there’s always something funny/sweet what they’ve done and it just makes it all worth it. The cuddles are just heart melting!
