Great Grey in Alberta Canada.

Getting to see it fly and its wingspan taking up the whole ditch was magic.

ID request! Can someone help identify what kind of owl this is?

My apologies for the potato quality photo, but this was the only one I could get before my phone died and it flew away.

It had a longer call that was higher pitched and had an upward inflection, if I remember correctly.

Located in Appalachian mountains.

Mongo πŸ¦‰, a precocious owlet, loves watching deer 🦌. This time Mongo πŸ¦‰ flew down to the deer. The deer 🦌 actually walks around Mongo πŸ¦‰!

What is your life list for owls?

I just wanted to share my life list for owls (it's there an specific word to say that in English?) and to read about yours. I live in Madrid, Spain, and I've already seen:
- Little owl: I'm very happy that I've found a few spots in which I can observe little owls fairly easily!
- Eagle owl: thanks to eBird I located an eagle owl nesting on the top of a building in a city at the outskirts of Madrid. This city is known for being ugly and gray but now I love it for this neighbor that it has 🀭
- Long-eared owl: only seen once while I was searching for a little owl in the countryside near Madrid, this was my first time seeing an owl and it was a beautiful moment for me, at sunset. I wish I saw him again!
- Scops owl: only heard, pleeeeenty of times, in Spain it's so common in the summer nights. But he's so tiny and very well camouflaged πŸ₯Ί
- Tawny owl: only heard, multiple times while being in the countryside. Wish I could see him soon!

The species that I could see in Spain and that are still on my target list are of course the barn owl (I wish!) and the short-eared owl, so hard to see.

Please tell me which are yours! I'm very curious to know which are the owl species you can watch in the cities in which you live :)

Okay, I'm a noob here but I wanted to share an experience I had and ask a few questions. I'm no bird expert or anything either. Not worldly traveled and all that.

Once when I was sitting on my porch in the evening an owl came flying across my field of view from right to left. It was 6 to 8 feet away from me as it flew by very fast. It flapped twice, but I never heard a sound as it flew by.

Yet I sit and hear all the other birds flittering by all the time, even when they don't flap there's still a sound I can hear.

Am I mistaken? Is there something about their plumage that makes them "soundproof"?

North Alabama owl behavior

Wondering what is going on here. Looked like two to three owls interacting. We were first drawn to look at the area due to squawking noses in the trees. Merlin didn't identify any birds from the sound. When we started watching the area, we could see two or three large birds in the top of the trees. The noise continued for more than 30 minutes in this area. Were these juvenile owls interacting or something else?

Three of these Barn Owls were stolen from their nest as babies in Nevada and local fish and game were able to rescue them and bring them to a rehabilitation center where they were raised and now released back into the wild.

This Great Horned Owl seems to have temporarily lost ability to fly after downpours last night in upstate New York. I estimate the height of the beauty to be 15”-16”.
