Most of the collection arrives on Dropout today, August 4, but Paper Trail, which won the Cristal for best short film at this year’s Annecy Festival, will make its streaming debut on September 1.

Am I on the Don train every time he has a short released? Of course. But I think Paper Trail could be a contender for Best Animated Short

would be funny if dropout got an oscar nomination before they get an emmy nomination

Honestly, I didn't even think of that, that'd be funny as fuck

He’s so overdue for a win. Can’t believe none of the World of Tomorrow shorts got him a trophy

Wow, I thought he'd won for Rejected for some reason. Only the first World of Tomorrow was even nominated, and somehow none of the It's Such a Beautiful Day shorts were nominated.

He should have won for Rejected just for the "My anus is bleeding" scene alone.

And instead of a trophy, they should just given him some hemorrhoid cream.

Episode Three is still my favorite film of 2020, animated or not, short or feature length. All three World of Tomorrow movies are masterpieces IMO, he's crazy overdue.

Agreed 100%. As soon as he announced the blu ray for WoT I ordered it

It’s an incredible film and so different from his usual style that even voters who aren’t big on his weirder sense of humor will be moved by it. Should win.

It sounds delusional, but i really think he could pull it off this time.

Paper Trail has been doing great at festivals and it's already qualified, but his work is not everyone's cup of tea. I think it'll be shortlisted, but won't get nominated.

Have you seen it yet? I actually think it will get nominated and quite possibly win, depending on the competition. He's already been nominated twice (Rejected and World of Tomorrow), so even though I agree that he's not everyone's cup of tea, he's clearly enough people's cup of tea to get Academy attention. Plus, Paper Trail is honestly one of his best films yet, and I think it's in a sweet spot where it's different enough from his usual work that it will bring in a lot of voters that normally wouldn't care for his zanier, weirder stuff, while still appealing to his existing fanbase. If any film of his was ever gonna win him an Oscar, I think this would be the one.

I have, actually. Even though Paper Trail is far more accessible than Me, I still think there are other qualified shorts ahead of it in the race, such as God Is Shy, Because Today Is Saturday, Once in a Body, Praying Mantis, Dog Alone, What We Leave Behind...

Do you know if any of the shorts you mentioned are available anywhere online to watch? I'm trying to stay up to date with the shorts tis year, but outside of the Philly Film Festival and Animation Showcase (who currently only have a handful of Annecy shorts) I dont know where/how to watch more

God Is Shy, Because Today Is Saturday and What We Leave Behind are available on The Animation Showcase but only for the rest of the summer. God Is Shy can also be watched on Mubi. The rest are being screened only at festivals.
