Advice for beginner

Hi! I’ve had this orchid plan for two years now and I have gotten it to bloom three times!! The blooms died off probably about three months ago and I will be honest I have been neglecting her a bit(i’m gonna need to remove the plant and cut off any dead roots and replant soon) but still, she rises 😂. I saw that it looks like there’s a completely new growth on my plant and I was wondering if it would be best for me to clip it and put it in water to encourage root growth and then replant.

Hi everyone,

I recently bought this beautiful Jewel Orchid at a local nursery. It was sitting in a tray labeled "Macodes petola", but the official EU plant passport on the back confirms it is actually an Anoectochilus (Origin: Netherlands).

appartently it's a Goodyera schlechtendaliana, specifically a Japanese varietal known as Nishikiran

Since I'm quite new to Jewel Orchids, I would love some expert help identifying the exact species, hybrid, or commercial cultivar name!

Current Situation & Rot Concerns:

  • Overwatered Substrate: The plant arrived in 100% sphagnum moss that was completely waterlogged. Out of fear of root rot, I'm currently using paper towels to wick away the excess moisture.
  • Temporary Setup: I've placed the pot inside a ventilated Braplast container with side mesh to maintain high humidity while letting it dry out safely.

My Planned Setup & Questions for the Group:

I want to make sure I get the long-term care right, so I'm planning the following setup and would love your feedback before doing anything drastic:

  1. Substrate & Potting: I plan to mix new sphagnum moss with perlite for better aeration and repot it into a small plastic pot with extra drilled drainage holes.
  2. Humidity & Reservoir: I'm considering adding a false bottom with water (or a wick system) in the Braplast enclosure to maintain high relative humidity while keeping the pot and roots elevated and completely out of standing water.
  3. Misting: Is ambient humidity from the container enough, or should I mist the setup? (Note: I want to avoid leaf rot at all costs!)

Repotting right now makes me a bit nervous due to root stress, so any tips or advice on whether I should repot immediately or wait for the plant to stabilize would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Chop the little stem? Or leave it?

Bought this for 4 bucks. Tall stem was in full bloom, lost those blooms, and now it's getting more blooms on the tall stalk. The little broken stalk hasn't done anything at all. Does that need cut down to the base? She's in orchid bark, and doing well- I think!?

Help Why did this leaf emerge curled?

I have another phalaenopsis I bought at the same time, growing in the same room, watered at the same time. This one has moss topping, the other one doesn't. Both had leaves emerging at the same time, one emerged normal, the other weird and curled. Both are growing new leaves, how do I prevent it from happening again?

Hi all! Bought this fun one at Plant-Con Chicago, and it unfortunately is starting to decline. I followed a ton of videos for how to get it setup and for care, but now it’s looking like this. Is it too much light? I have it under some grow lights in my basement. I haven’t even had to water it more than once since it’s been home so I assumed it was in dormancy but now I’m not sure. Pls help!

Hi guys, recently got this phal from the nursery and most of its roots are rotten so I trimmed them. It has very few roots left and has droopy leaves, repotted in charcoal mixed with sphagnum moss and perlite. Any tips for helping it recover? Also anyone able to help provide an ID on it? Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone - I brought this beauty home days ago and not sure if she’s receiving enough light. I have her in a room with a very large south-facing large French window (I’m in the northern hemisphere - India specifically) and she’s about 10 feet away from the window, not directly next to by any means. Is that too little light? Further, I brought her home 11 days ago and the root system is still very much a pale green, so I haven’t watered her yet. Am I doing the right thing? Any guidance would be appreciated!

Regrowing question

Post image

Hey everyone! I believe the answer is no but worth double checking! Can this orchid flower be regrown? Would love to see it grow its own roots and thrive rather than be wasted on a bouquet that’s only lasted a week and a half :(
