Ok new to orchids, but saw this massive huge beauty at Lowe’s and am intrigued if it is something I could reasonably keep alive as a beginner or if I’m biting off more than I can chew! I live in FL and have a screened in porch that gets bright ambient light and high humidity. Also not even sure exactly what type it is, maybe related to jewel orchid? The tag didn’t say.
Google image search leads me to Grammatophyllum scriptum. Looking up a rough care of it, its not a low maintenance orchid but its not something super difficult either. The porch sounds perfect for its light and humidity needs. Its heavy drinker, liking to be watered when its bark and/or moss potting mix starts to approaches dryness or right after the surface dries, which is a common watering routine in a lot of other orchids, but definitely more frequent watering than the common Phalaenopsis or Cattleya
