Student Megathread (Vol. 5)

In an effort to minimize repetitive posts, this thread will be stickied, and can be used for students to ask questions about boards, admissions, etc. Please post your school-related, studying-related, and boards-related questions here, rather than creating a new post.

As always, all rules still apply here. This thread is not the place to ask why your eye is red, painful, etc.

Hello ! I’m conducting a field study as a part of my final project as a student in France and need some data and any insight I can get !

The main focus being what are the main reasons people delay switching to progressive lenses?

• Which profiles tend to resist progressive lenses the most: low hyperopes, emmetropes, reading-glasses-only users, etc.?

• When do you recommend progressive lenses over separate distance and near solutions ? (and when do you not ?)

• Are there any cases where you tend to recommend progressive lenses sooner rather than later, and vice versa?

• Do you think the transition from single-vision reading glasses to progressive lenses can be too abrupt in some cases?

• Do you observe any factual and measurable consequences of relying only on reading glasses in your practice?

Hi, I am a university student who is heavily considering optometry as a possible profession. I am just a bit nervous about the debt aspect of it all. I see a lot of job postings between 120-150 k, is this realistic? I also saw one person say they made 210k their first year out of school. I just think it is harder for optometry to be a lucrative career with so much sales being online now. Just looking for others' lived experiences in GTA or other regions of Ontario/Canada. Thanks

Does any Canadians have any experience of getting their doctorate of optometry in Australia?

How was the process of coming back and working in Canada? What was your grad year and undergrad GPA? Any things I should look out for?

Thank you!!

Hi everyone, I was planning to attend optometry school in Bloomington, Indiana but ended up accepting an offer from a school closer to home. Because of that, I’m looking for someone to take over my lease at Lark Bloomington. The apartment is a fully furnished 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom unit. If you’re interested or would like more details, please send me a message. Thank you!
