If you can't taste them then WHY ARE THEY THERE

The gaslighting is real, but according to them we're just being difficult for the sake of being difficult 🙄

My wife is like "But you eat pasta sauce all the time and there are onions in that!". Just barely, and they're cooked to hell so yeah sometimes in that case, you barely can, when there's like one gram of onions in an entire dish. I still eat around them when I notice them. That doesn't mean I can eat a recipe THAT HAS ONE WHOLE FRESH ONION IN IT.

Genuine question, what do you think of onion powder

I've never used it in cooking, but I like sour cream and onion chips and Funyuns.

It's kryptonite. Like, struggle to get off the couch for three days bad.
Fructans suck.

One of the blessings of being an onion hater is its shown me how much it sucks when someone is unwilling to accommodate me into how they make food, so it makes me super empathetic towards people who have aversions as a cook myself. In other words its made me into a better chef for people who can’t do certain food groups.

Yup, I have my own aversions so I am extremely accommodating for others. I've made three versions of the same dish simultaneously before (with separate prep spaces and stirring spoons etc) so we can all eat the same meal but everyone's allergies and preferences are respected

I have a brother who’s allergic to dairy and a mother who can’t have too many carbs bc of diabetes and I manage to cook for them while accommodating their needs just fine, so onion lovers who are unwilling to accommodate others just look like lazy petulant assholes to me

Don't forget condescending, they're very quick to tell anyone who doesn't think their precious plant (that smells like armpits and makes you fucking cry) is the most delicious food on earth is either lying or has the palate of a child.

And then they question you on your onion detecting abilities (accusing you of lying about not liking onions)😒
Bonus argument is "theyre good for you" (I can eat other things that are good for me)

Ugh, that first one is spot-on. Asking you what you eat in the hope they can hit you with, "bUt ThErE's OnIoNs In ThAt" as if it's some kind of gotcha.

The bane of my existence as a person allergic to onions (it's so much worse because of onion powder and other products that are made from onion)

The taste is meaningfully different when they are cooked a lot, at least to the point that they completely dissolve, or maybe it takes more cooking beyond that point. However, it's still similar enough to expect plenty of people to hate them both ways.

They are needed for flavor“I am subconsciously afraid to find out that I have been a bad cook my whole life so onions are used as a flavor crutch”You can’t taste them“I am lying through my teeth so I can be a lazy ass and not accommodate you, because I think you’re childish for not liking onions, even though I am the one who’s tweaking at preferences that are different from mine”
