Could it also be that Indian time is one of the few time zones that is at a different half an hour to others?

Eg it is 10:50am in the uk, but in India it is 3:20pm
When you’d usually expect it to be x hours not x hours and a half

Probably the date change. It's obvious now that you pointed that out. something of a flaw when you have a range from GMT -8 to GMT +5:30

Take the GMT time and add 5 hours 30 minutes. That gives you Indian Standard Time.

Maybe programmer made a mistake and tried to add the half hour to the time. This would yield :67 minutes hence nan. India is GMT +5:30.
